Guys should I wait for the M4 MBP or buy the M3 Pro MBP now with student discount which gives the gift card & apple care discount?

I'm coming from a MBP 2012 13' Inch so just curious since the new one is coming next month.

It’s actually a plus that it runs Windows. I used macOS as my daily driver for 12 years prior to switching back and switching back to Windows was a deliberate choice. Windows is wonderful. Both OS’s have their pros and cons. If it’s been a while since you’ve used Windows, I’d recommend giving it a go sometime.
I use Windows on my work computer because I have to, but use a Mac privately. I meant it sincerely, great for you if you prefer Windows. But for those who use and prefer MacOS, it’s irrelevant when discussing which Mac model is the better value. And no, I’m not interested in your opinions or prejudices about why I should like Windows more.

Run, don’t walk. 0% chance the new one will be less than 1999.-, and 0.1% chance the performance difference will be worth the 500.- difference for your use case.

Decided to return my new one and ordered an Open Box - Excellent instead for $1,413. Saved an extra $90 and it looks literally new, came with the parchment paper and cable/charger unused and qualifies for Apple Care. Add my trade in of $367 and my final price for the 14” MacBook Pro M3 Pro 18GB/512GB was an amazing $1,046!!!

Today I received the 14 inch mbp M3 pro chip, 18 gb memory. The SSD in the product description says 512 gb. Email receipt from Best Buy also says 512 gb. My computer says 494.38 GB total SSD space. Does anyone have this computer and is your SSD 512 gb? Thanks.

Pretty sure that’s normal. The operating system takes up space and that isn’t counted when they’re telling you the maximum size of your hard drive.

Out of curiosity, is there any issue with sleep? I had a similar adapter in my 2012 MBA and sometimes it caused issue with sleep, but I have no idea if that happens with AS machines
No problems whatsoever with sleep (I used the 1TB Transcend Jetdrive and then switched to a 1.5TB Sandisk with the baseqi)

Both cards get forced ejected if the battery runs out though and you will get the "was ejected improperly message" that is the only annoyance i've stumbled upon however.

On and off had been thinking about upgrading my macbook. My 2017 MacBook Pro has been giving me issues where it will turn off if it’s unplugged even with full battery. The prices had kept me away from it and the fact I use the iMac next to my work computer on my desk during the day.

well started browsing, saw a sale, then saw this thread, more research and deciding between an Air M3 or Pro M3. I got this, I’m currently setting it up, can’t wait to see all it can do.

Yes, that is normal (I do have the same computer and it shows the same.)

If you type Command-2 (or menu View/Show All Devices) you should see the actual drive available in the left pane, and it should show 500.28 GB, as there are a couple of hidden small container disks (the larger is a 5.4 GB recovery disk Apple_APFS_Recovery on mine).

Disk capacity has been a complicated topic for years: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102119

Or if you want a long, technical run-through where another person investigated the difference in space that he noticed between his new M1 and old Intel Mac, you might find this interesting (or not):

So far so good, great computer!! Can't think of a single complaint. The screen is amazing, it is super fast, I was concerned about the weight because I read how it's heavy and heavier Than the M3 Air. I went to BestBuy and they were sitting side by side, held both of them and the Air seemed heavier to me, probably just in my head as even the 15'' is slightly lighter than the 14'' pro.

I liked the 15'' Air screen size but I couldn't get past how much "dead space" is around the trackpad.
