"Now" would mean I was referring to him as something else previously. I think that was my first post in this thread. I could have used many words in replace of "boy," man, kid, he, guy, etc. Boy sounded the silliest, as my comment was meant to be taken. Not even considering the potential racial slight when I wrote that, as that was not on my mind in the least.

So just apologize. You misspoke. Anything else is just self justification.

You can take a hood rat out of the ghetto, but it doesn't necessarily mean you'll take the ghetto out of him.

Boy usually refers to a young male, but it can also be used informally to refer to someone younger than you or to any male in general. It all depends on the context with an eye on certain regionalisms.

Sounds like it Apple was thinking of buying them, and my guess is that Beats leaked it to push it along and make it happen--the tech world is not the hip-hop world boys. Oops. Hey Dre, Hip Hop Billionaire yet--NOT. And likely NEVER. Go to Samsung, and get all the underwater options in the world, my friend.

If Apple backs out, it has nothing to do with race.
Have you people forgotten what colour of skin Iovine has?

And if it was Eminem instead of Dre/Tyrese, I'm guessing Apple would react in the same way.

It's about judgement of character. If one can't be trusted to keep a tight lip, how can they trust them to keep quiet about new products in the pipeline?

Strategically, it leaves Apple vulnerable to competition. Spotify and others may react based on rumours or differently based on confirmation of the deal.

Bang & Olafsen would be a much better fit with Apple.

Actually this is the 1st time I've heard this mention and I agree 100% with this.

The only difference being really. If you think about it.
B&O is positioned as a quality sleek understated brand sold to a few, whereas Apple is trying to look like that and selling to the mass market.

Basically trying to look like B&O but selling like Samsung.

Apple don't want to sell onto to the very upper expensive end, they want to remain at just that point where many can buy, but just at the point where they are still looked upon as something a little bit special if you get one.

So, Beats streaming app is just a branded version of some other app that's not even that good? And Apple's spending $3.2 BILLION to acquire this crap along with mediocre headphones? And two guys are suppose to be the "prize" and worth this huge acquisition?

I wish Steve Jobs were alive :( Tim Cook is so incredibly inept and lacks long-term vision. Google, Facebook and Samsung must be laughing.

Assuming this deal is legit...

My guess is, Apple can't get Iovine without buying Beats. If there's a long term vision, I think it's about working directly with artists. Get Iovine on board to develop Apple's in house music "label".

Personally I think the deal is idiotic.

However...when it comes to idiotic, Facebook shelling out 19B for a chat app seems beyond stupid. And Google? Really? The company that lost over 10B on Motorola? The company that paid 3B for a mediocre thermostat and smoke detector? If they're laughing, its not because the Beats deal is any more idiotic than deals they've already done.

If anything, these deals are just indicative of how disconnected from the rest of us the tech world has become. They throw around billions of dollars and don't bat an eye. Must be nice.

Of course this video shows that this would be a bad deal.

What is the NUMBER ONE thing that Steve Jobs worked on as his life was ending. Was it AppleTV? No. Was it a watch? No. It was a project to preserve Apple's Culture. It was "Apple University", to teach executives to "think like Steve Jobs".
http://appleinsider.com/articles/11/10/06/apple_university_revealed_as_plan_to_teach_executives_to_think_like_steve_jobs

Now, watch that video, listen to those vulgar drunken clowns. As someone who lives smack dab next to Apple, and has seen both the good and bad side of their culture, the people on that video are completely alien to the culture and thinking that Steve Jobs built up.

Next, did you see the reaction when Dre made the mention of "West Coast"? Do you have NO MEMORY of the bloody West Coast vs. East Coast rap wars?!? Tupac Shakur? Biggie Smalls? You think that kind of **** would be allowed to go down inside of One Infinite Loop, let alone the Conformist Chinese Colony of Cupertino?

Ultimately, it gets down to this. "A" players hire "A" players. "B" players hire "C" players. The people in that video are "Z" players. There isn't anyone in the Silicon Valley who would wear the newly invented letter of the alphabet needed for any of these slugs to be "the boss".

This diatribe is simply anti-blackness. I've seen more faux outrage about this "infamous" video with its "vulgar" (but legal) language than Michael Phelps received after the video surfaced of him hitting that Bong like a champ.

Don't preach about "culture" and Steve Jobs. It's well known that we was a megalomaniac and had poor ethics. From cheating Woz out of money early on by lying to him to getting Apple in hot water over eBooks (which they are still fighting the DoJ over) and the recent collusion with other Tech giants over poaching. I wish Steve was alive but in many ways I'm glad that Cook runs the company now.

Get Smart Apple! DO NOT INK THIS DEAL!!

Leave now while you still have the chance!!! It's way over priced
As an Apple stockholder, I say take a pass on this overpriced train wreck waiting to happen.

The fact it was leaked & Dre is essentially counting his chickens before they hatch is complete arrogance. Apple has way too much class to put up with, let alone PAY ginormous dollars, for this dog & pony show.

----------

I always had this image in my head of dre being this uber professional business man that gets **** done. Then I saw the video of him bragging about being hip hops first billionaire like he's some homie in a rap video and I just lost it. Totally changed my mind about him. Very unprofessional. Makes me think he couldn't handle the position
Tim & the Board - DO NOT SIGN this egomaniac to the company.

"pulling themselves out of the culture that brings racism to them" this is one of the top five worst things have ever heard of a person think or say in my life

You've lived a pretty sheltered existence if this is true.

Nothing to do with race, but simply the WRONG fit for Apple

This "pending" business transaction is just plain wrong for our company.

We don't need Beats; their headphones are just a cool symbol that are substandard when it comes to top quality sound for the money and "Dr." Dre is nothing more than your standard easy come rich guy wanting to become richer without so much as lifting a finger.

Apple, you can do far better with our company's money!

Actually, image and form over functionality seems to fit right in with Apples philosophy.

This diatribe is simply anti-blackness.

That's right, when you can't defend the indefensible, pull out the race card!

Don't preach about "culture" and Steve Jobs. It's well known that we was a megalomaniac and had poor ethics.

I very clearly said that Apple's culture has a good side and a bad side. All of the examples you give are valid. Heck, I even made sure to take some photographs of Jobs' license-less Mercedes sitting squarely in the handicap spots at One Infinite Loop, because otherwise people wouldn't believe me.

And what the entire Silicon Valley does with massive abuse of the H1B visa system is vile. It is now considered the "norm" to lay off senior engineers and managers once they reach 40, and to never hire anyone that age or older back in. Instead they'll lie to the government that nobody exists in this country that can meet the skills of the position, so they get to bring another H1B visa holder in. Americans with mortgages and kids with college tuition get _destroyed_.

(Maybe Beats doesn't do that. If that were to be the case, I'd overlook a lot - but not all - of the bad side of Beats.)

So no, Silicon Valley "culture" is nothing worth bragging about. But it still is completely incompatible with the culture as exhibited in that Dr. Dre video.

The need of many here to paint anyone opposed to this deal as "racist" is very, very sad.

Oh what a load of crap - outside of the US of A people are very much buying music on iTunes whether the doomsayers like you are willing to admit it. The decline wasn't massive, 0.1% for album sales and 5.4% for tracks sold - in other words easily explained away by virtue of the fact that there hasn't been a decent music release in the last few years that is worth a damn.

Actually, not sure if anyone has noticed, but, apple JUST removed all the Free Music Downloader apps which were top music apps and likely were a key reason people stopped Dowloading paid music from iTunes. Expect for sales to either flatline or go back up. I'm sure Spotify is a culprit as well though

Maybe someone at Apple finally TRIED Beats Music

Maybe the sudden cool-down -- in addition to possibly being provoked by the vid of their putative $3.2B partner doing a watered down Rob Ford impression -- had something to do with someone at Apple actually trying to USE Beats Music.

I've been a streaming music subscriber for most of the last decade. I've been on 6 stream services -- and THREE of them have shut down under the 'care' of BM's CEO, Ian Rogers.

Those would be MusicMatch OnDemand which Yahoo bought to turn into its only slightly inferior Yahoo Music Unlimited, Yahoo Music Unlimited itself when Ian Rogers's handiwork went over like a lead balloon, and now MOG, which Beats bought to turn into Beats Music. One to go... that would be Beats, itself, of course.

I loved MOG and I tried Beats not once but twice. It was unusable the first time -- I've never seen such a disastrous service roll-out from someone who wants to be a major player in the biz -- but mostly 'fixed' the second time.

Unfortunately for them, the fact that what limited and clunky features they do have were mostly working revealed precisely how awful the Beats Music UI is. There's not even a play queue. You can't 'play next' or 'add to queue' -- because there is no queue. Want to play Album B when Album A is done? You have to be there to manually load it. If you happen to click on Album B, it will immediately interrupt Album A's playback.

I've been following the support threads that BM can't seem to get me removed from and the level of antagonism and outrage toward Beats from their subscribers (in particular those who stayed over from MOG) is pretty stunning.

(For the record, I switched to the far superior service provided by a large search engine and mobile OS maker. Same price. More or less the same 20M tracks. Much better service and desktop and mobile players. In some ways, it's better than MOG. But it does take some getting used to. And it is plug ugly. [But I 'restyle' it in my browser with the Chrome Stylebot extension.])

Sure, some of modern American music is influenced by "AA" music, but when you are ignorant of classical music you will not realize that most modern "AA" music is influenced by classical music. You hear a song that sounds good and realize the chords and progressions originated 600 years ago in Ireland or Austria.

As for racism, anybody can be racist against anybody, people can even be racist against themselves. Your accusations of white privilege reveal your own hatred. Please, learn to love, learn to forgive, learn to be at peace. Your anger is consuming you. You are hurting nobody but yourself.

No, this is wrong and I never said I was angry or full of hate. I can't control how you read and interpret my written text.

Classical music wasn't ONLY an Ireland or Austrian phenomenon. You do realize that the REST OF THE WORLD was creating music back then too right? Also, I never said that classical music of any kind wasn't also influencing modern American music, your attempt to downplay a known fact is nice, but unwarranted, but also gives us a look at how such statements ARE culturally insensitive and destructive to the overall perception of whites in America and Europe and Africa.

You white privilege is showing in that statement, please learn to explore and respect other cultures, learn to give credit where credit is due, learn to be at peace with whites not being the end all be all for humanity and realize that the endless ethnic branches in the world aren't a bad thing and each should be held in high regard.

Your privilege is blinding you, you aren't helping your race by ignoring others.

PLEASE look up the definition of racism and prejudice. These are English words that do not have finite differences. At the very least racism needs something to back it up . . . . . . like majority rule, or the power to effect the oppressed group. Just because you don't like being a part of the oppressive group doesn't mean you can change the definition at a whim to suite your needs.

Lastly, it's a terrible stereotype that. Claiming an African American is "angry" because he decides to stick up for cultural sensitivity. Just so you know.

----------

Now you calling a grown man over 40 years old a boy wow!!!!

What you'd expect given the nature of many of these posts.

And I was right about Beats here come the people saying you are just racist blah blah bunch of Dr. Dre Fanboys raging.

Except for those people too ignorant to realize their comments are racist, prejudiced and privileged.

Or in your case, when someone does say something racist, prejudiced and/or privileged we're (including culturally sensitive whites that believe in equality) are just fanboys for pointing it out?

They have a hell of a better idea than any if us as to what the deal is, how it will integrate into their future plans and how much money to pay.

That's different than saying they know what they're doing. I know lots of executives who have plans and details about those plans. The problem is the plans are terrible.
