Your guess is correct. If they fit your ears they stay in very well.
In fact they are so comfortable and so light, it feels like I'm jogging without earbuds at all. It's quite a dramatic improvement.

Good to know.

The second issue I have with these AirPods are - what is their life-span?

When their batteries eventually die, what is Apple's solution, other than the dumpster, for them?

Asking because this is a very Green company.

Apple recycles old tech like no other company. Don't worry them will have a recycle plan.

The AirPods is very small. No other company has been able to do a similar product that size. Having a removable battery is not possible in a product that size and rigidity.

I don't think we know the lifespan because they are too new. My speculation would be 2-6 years depending on use.

There is a "battery replacement service" for $49, but I suspect that it's really just replacing the whole AirPod, in which case that's not very green. I suspect this because I've seen the iFixit teardown and I just don't see any way these are serviceable by anyone, even Apple.

Apple does claim they properly e-cycle their electronics, so I guess that's better than someone throwing them in a dumpster.

They definitely need noise cancelling. Too much sound gets past them.

It depends on the environment. I have had very little issues with any type of surrounding noise that has interfered with the listening experience with AirPods. For example, even with wind noise outside, it hasn’t been that much of an issue for me, but I also think it depends on how tight of a fit the AirPods are in someone’s years to lock out the outside environment.

Another member was complaining that the Airpods were a poor fit for their ears, which were allowing more outside noise to interfere with the audio.

However, I would really like to see Apple add a water resistance layer to the AirPods, even though they do fairly well against sweat any type of moisture, but I think it would be useful to have this rating.

"Back In Stock" ..... what I would really love to read is "BLACK In Stock". :D
If Apple release black Airpods I'll buy two.

Isn't this quotient part of the Alpha test?

I don't really know what that means.

But in any case, battery use is always YMMV. A heavy user will burn it out quickly but for a light user the battery's useful life could almost be similar to the battery's shelf life.

Yes. That is what an Alpha test by Apple is supposed to test and quantify. Minimal use vs maximal use lifetime of the battery in the AirPods. These batteries did not come to life two weeks before the AirPods were released - they've been available to test for enough hours/days/months before they were tested on these devices. And ... then the Beta test. I am presuming Apple beta tests the physical devices also.

Returned mine just because there was no way to control the volume from the AirPods themselves. Add that and they would be an unbeatable product. Would also be nice to find them at $100 somewhere but the most discounted I’ve seen has been $20-$30.

That stuff would be nice, but mainly an upgrade in sound quality. I know they are not supposed to be "audiophile" quality but some new audio technology that produces better, more dynamic sound would be nice. I just want a better reason to upgrade than "Hey Siri"....some new innovation to be excited about.

Anything Wireless is not Audiophile quality. They cringe at that word wireless. I know, because I cater to them lol.

We are not dealing with audiophile territory - BT audio is just convenience when wired audio is not convenient. The best BT is supposedly from the high priced companies, but they are not anywhere close to IRL audio!

Seriously, the very deficient SIRI is the route to convenience to quality anything?

Just make the damn things a little louder. All the audiophiles can talk about the bass and low ends.

Be under the influence of that legal Canadian thing - at any volume level. Then you will know that loudness is not equal to quality! You ears are so perfect UI.

Lmao. AirPods are sold out! Assuming AirPods 2 are on tne way.
Few hours later: update; they’re back in stock.
Btw the Mac Mini isn’t even on the way to. The Mini is dead.
Question: how come we haven’t seen any photo leaks of the supposed iPad Pro 2018 which always happens with every product?

Well people would start coming to hasty assumptions I suppose.

Okay make the noise isolation better. Whatever it is I can sometimes barely hear mine in places like Bangkok where noise pollution is excessive.

Could it be this ? : @arn

"The Chinese company that assembles Apple's AirPods is moving its production from China to Vietnam"

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-10-18/us-trade-war-takes-a-bite-out-of-apple/10385830

Smart move.

You mean Apple actually giving us something we want? Doubt it.

No!

That was a decade ago when Apple researched what the consumers (you and I) needed and delivered products we had no idea that we needed. The Jobs years!

Now, it is just products pulled out out of air to match their cheapest production line and best way to monetize their investment (Beats), and shove them down the faithful's throat!

What is this nonsensical reporting about micrologistics? The iPod is a fully developed product. A possible successor will only be able to show small optimizations, since the first device was already optimal, so to speak.

I use it every day and see it more and more in public all over the world.

I saw someone wearing airpods on the bus this morning - first time I’ve seen them in months..
Whereas a dozen or so people on the bus every day are wearing over-the-ear style wireless headphones.. JBL, Bose, Sennheiser, and occasionally Beats.

Not sure where you live but in Manchester where I do, I see people wearing Airpods just about everywhere, to the point it is hilarious how fast these have become popular. Particularly at the gym where I go just about everyone has them.

I have an Apple Watch so volume is easy and skipping too. But I agree for most people those are big things to leave out. My beatsX were very convenient for controlling playback but bulkier and sometimes snag on my collar

It's the exact opposite here in London - go on the London underground and you simply don't see people wearing over the head headphones anymore - they've gone back to Apple EarPods or have moved on to AirPods!
They have grown in popularity in London. In the west end you see people wearing them everywhere but the biggest increase I've noticed is at my gym where I seemed to be the only person with them to start with and now there are a growing number using them. I have had people asking me about them and although most comment that they don't like the look they appreciate the freedom they provide when working out. Yes there is no noise isolation but I prefer not to have it - I don't like the feeling of being cut off from my environment. I have a pair of over the ear headphones for air travel etc.
