This is the worst of the internet. People coming up with theories that then get shared, re-tweeted etc. and become fact to some, especially those who always believe the worst intentions about Apple.
My thoughts exactly all these techies out here claiming they know the ends and outs of IOS firmware and can barely use their phones full features it’s even capable of doing.

Minor is not the correct word. The 7 was not that close to the top androids. This year the 8 and X are rated above all androids in stills. That's a major leap. $900 worth it? Perhaps not but that doesn't quantify the jump in quality.
Not quite, Pixel 2 and Note8 have 99 and 100 scores on stills, iPhone X has 101, iPhone 8 lags behind at 96.

Just lol. My 6S is throttled to less than half the clock speed, it is less than a year old and displays no warnings. It is now SLOWER THAN MY OLD IPHONE 6!

How is it an overreaction to complain about this?
Is it normal for you to just reduce a devices speed to half after a year without telling anyone?
Than its not the battery.

If your devices battery was new, and Apple really is software slowing the CPU in relation to battery degradation, than you couldnt have possibly run the battery down in a year.

Otherwise the battery wasn't completely new, which is more than likely because the phone came out a year after you bought it and likely had a reused battery.

They already have the money for the current iPhone. And a pretty good shot at getting the sale of a second iPhone. What better way than to prematurely force the purchase of the next phone?

Apple has done a great job of instilling "android is slower than iOS" over the years. Heck, just ask the people here, they'll preach it non-stop.

Really a crummy and underhanded thing to do, by not informing the customers.
So guilty verdict already according to you huh I’ll wait for some more solid confirmed evidence a few iPhones and Reddit.

My iPhone 6+ has been so slow and buggy I had no doubt Apple had slowed it down deliberately. I don't believe it's a battery issue - I think it's planned obsolescence - except artificial in that there's nothing actually obsolete about my phone.

No, you get refurbs as replacements at the Apple store and those receive a new case and a new battery.

Look at the reddit thread, there are even people with iPhones 7s reporting the same problem. Those devices are not much more than a year old max.

I don’t know if they are just making stuff up, but if the posts on reddit are true, than there are more people affected than just the ones with super old batteries.

As I said my iPhone 6s was replaced 13 month ago and is dramatically throttled according to Geekbench.

Have two 16 gb iPhones 6+ in a family, both with original batteries but different usages. One with battery life around 90% and second one with battery life around 50%. If that's not a real difference than I don't know what is.

Then I agree with you and I think the battery is being incorrectly pointed to as the reason for the slow down.

If your device has ONLY 50% battery health, then it's time for a new battery or phone. But this way apple has given you the opportunity to continue using it and giving you near all day battery life.

I have 6s. Full charge for me and I get 1.2GHz (should 1.85). After some usage it slows to 900MHz. Interestingly, I had no performance issues while on iOS 11 beta or before, but as soon as final iOS 11 came out I was throttled. My battery is only one year old and I got replaced by Apple just before my warranty expired last year. I have been already experience poor battery life again with the new one less than one year after replacing. Obviously Apple really designed a terrible battery for this phone.

Point being it should have been announced, and it should've been optional.

And if you have killed the battery to 50% health anywhere near one year, maybe think about changing your charging habits to better protect your investment.

How do you know the Battery Life?
I just tested my iPhone 6 with CPU DasherX and get a 830-840 Mhz...instead of the 1400 (I think I read that) it should be.

I have it charging now...did a Memory reset (go to Power Off, then hold the Home button until it flashes and I am up to 1127Mhz now. 88% battery power.

off charging now...back to 839MHz :(

Damn, i was seriously considering buying iphone 7(i can get it for really cheap plus the camera is basically the same as on 8). But after this i'm not so sure anymore.
I really like my 7 but I’d go for the 8 if it were me.

I’ll explain: battery issue should not affect the SPEED of the phone. But apparently it does here.
(Does less gas in your car mean that you can’t drive as fast?)
At 1/4 of a tank of gas in my RV my generator cuts off.

I hear more and for people being fed up with Apple. Mostly tech handicapped people too. Of course that is just my own experience. „It just works“ is long gone.

„i heard they break the phone if you replace the display by a 3rd party! They just want all our money!“

„My iPhone has gotten so slow!!!! They do it on purpose!“

„Have you heard of bug xy???? There are so many now and annoying updates every week“

„The iPhone 8 looks just like the old iPhone!“

„Apple is going to steal even more data with their face thing on the expensive iPhone X (not ten)!“

„Why is my damn iPhone always full!!!!! I bought the 128 GB one!“ ... uses 5 GB iPhone backup

... goes and buys next iPhone

I totally agree. The only reason I’m not really ticked off is that it didn’t happen to ME.
I’m ticked off because it *didn’t* happen to me. Now I can’t complain incessantly about how bad I think my iPhone is running rather than getting it fixed.

I'll throw my "me too" in here.

6S, and since the iOS11 upgrade phone is slower and battery barely lasts until lunchtime when it used to last all day. % wise, the battery setting shows 71% of CPU usage is Twitter, and I don't even check it that often.

I do see slowness as well, regardless of battery %. When unlocking, the icons start zooming into place, stutter, then finish assembling. Apps take longer to launch. Even just swiping to get the camera up the camera stutters for a but... Overall annoying.

I also got my battery replaced several months ago with the replacement program, so I'm "on" a new battery.
