Can’t wait to see it. Honestly, I cannot imagine how a tech fan cannot be at least interested on it. Many people complain that Apple has become boring, while they’re excited about a change of connector on their phones.

As I've asked now probably 4 or 5 times, what exactly is the science fiction I've posted? I've re-read my own stuff to try to imagine how it can be interpreted that way. Please share exactly what can't be done in 2023 with the mix of technologies rumored for this product and the right software.

Everything you write in your massive posts is debunked by people who said we do those things already with a computer, tablet or phone but without the discomfort of sticking something on our head.

Some of us wear really nice glasses, we don't want scars on our faces, we want our hairstyle to stay neat, we socialise face to face with people. If we want AR or VR it will just be for a quick moment to look at something in 3D in a way that isn't normally possible on a monitor.

What you do it use hundreds of words long posts, which look like copypasta marketing, to convince people we can almost live with these devices on our heads. We can't.

Except for every product you mentioned I was on the frontline saying "take my money." This is NOT like those other products, which had clear use cases. This one doesn't. And this one is said to cost significantly more than all of those other products. So, combine dubious use cases with outrageous cost? Which of us is being delusional?

First... I was speaking about reactions of MR readers in general about those Apple products. Not you.

Also... You're assuming the rumored cost is correct. And you appear to not understand the use cases.

Since you feel so strongly Apple's AR device will flop, and Apple doesn't know what they're doing spending millions of $$$$, write a letter to Tim Cook and set him straight.

battery on the belt, lasting 2 hrs - why? my question is about the runtime, not the location.
And if it needs to be tethered via a cable - will it come with another cable to hook up to iPhone?
this "article" does not make sense to me, if this is really what we're getting - it'll be a fail

Did I say anywhere in my "massive posts" that Goggles should completely replace computer, tablet or phone? No. So those- like you apparently- worried about discomfort, something on our head, really nice glasses, scar adverse, hair styles, in person socializing- probably should not buy this product.

However and this is key: not everyone is you. Not everyone sees this only your way. Others- like me- can see this differently... can think differently about this rumored product. Not everyone is me either... and that's fine by me. For every blast of pessimism you shoot at this rumor, there should be room for alternative views of optimism about its potential.

This is not about FB/Meta/Zuckerberg/Crypto/Ponzi, etc. This is a rumored new product in development for 6+ years BY APPLE. I have to believe it will be something substantially more than Oculus + with FB marketing/tracking/monetizing motivations.

I'll grant you it very well could be a new product that scars our faces and ends human socialization entirely. Are you able to grant me that a brand new product from Apple- not Meta- may have positive applications? ANY positive applications?

And I'm still waiting for the sci-fi specifics. What did I offer that is sci-fi impossible in 2023 with this mix of hardware and some software?

😂🤷

As long as you don't believe you're going to get a bug free smooth experience with you amazeballs use cases. We can't even get consistent performance on macOS and iOS.

Show me any source that is saying the cost will be significantly less than the rumored costs.

...and I understand the use cases you keep listing. They are not mass-use. They are niche use.

Nope. I don't cling to rumors. It's my own assessment it's going to be much less than $3K.

"They are not mass-use. They are niche use."

Write Apple a letter and set them straight that their many years of research and collaborating with Stanford University on this has been a waste of time and money.

Problems you failed to identify in the other thread after many posts.

well maintenance to aircraft is a common use case, as is medical training, etc. These are all in their infancy. Its like saying 'internet is useful trust us' back in the 90's. These things will end up being powerful as they can fuse a real device/person to data inside.

There's another thread on the news front page about AR/VR where we talk about this already. Medical grade AR devices are not consumer grade devices. They need to be super reliable and can't have a potentially buggy consumer operating system on them. They are all bespoke.

The waist-mounted battery caught me off guard.

But then I remembered the original iPhone and how it compares to the 14 Pro I’m posting on.

The crown style physical dial to fade in and fade out of reality is genius and oh-so-Apple.

The latency mitigation techniques (both on the audio side and the video side) could be almost a “multitouch moment”. If you’ve been listening to John Carmack in the last decade, it’s always about “latency this, latency that” when it comes to VR headsets. Wonder if Apple solved THE problem.

It's time consuming even if it took 2 seconds each time. Neat effect in a movie. In reality the novelty will wear off fast and become a chore.

You know whats gonna make this thing take off? OnlyFans

Adult entertainment has always been the industry that drives these things into the mainstream. It is what made the Internet popular because it was discrete. After OnlyFans, you will see creators in different industries create content that allow you to immerse yourself in their world. Imagine going through a OMG! iJustine product review with what seems like Justine right there in your living room or her studio. The same for MKBHD, you could actually be his presence and actually see and listen to his monologue like he's right there and even have interactions like asking questions. This is also gonna be great for live concerts.

Time to start speculating on what the first "xyz-gate" will be for these. Doesn'tfitanyonegate? Baddisplaygate? Shortbatterylifegate? You'rewearingitonyourheadwronggate?

It’s not like you’ll be constantly doing it. And maybe you’ll also be able to do it via software (just like volume buttons on an iPhone).

Again, with the ability to display anything to our eyes, this can cover towards almost anything that commands the attention of our eyes each day. Some of us dream of an Apple monitor at 30", 32", 34", ultra-wides of various sizes, multi-monitor setups, a 24" monitor, etc. Conceptually, this could have ALL of those available inside.

Rather than be locked to a fixed location to do your computing or TV watching, this could make your desktop screen and/or TV be with you anywhere you are. Wanting to catch up with a show on the long flight but not really loving a 5"-10" iDevice screen? Toss what you want to watch to your primary TV screen (virtually with you, much like headphones bring your virtual stereo with you). Or watch on a virtual IMAX screen in a virtual theater.

Simple Services: enjoy going to a big game/concert/show? Front row, center tickets to big events can easily get into a few thousand dollars. Imagine a subscription service that can put you there virtually from wherever you actually are for considerably less? Why would considerably less be possible? Because this would allow the venue to sell the same "seats" to thousands or millions vs. only a few physical bodies... like how a time share can sell the same RE to dozens instead of only one buyer. It takes redirecting the cost of only a few live events to wash the cost of goggles, travel, parking, tickets, etc.

People spend LOTS of money on the Peloton-like experience of seemingly live trainer on a flat 2D screen. Would they not pay at least as much as Peloton pricing to workout with that trainer as if they are there in the room/space with them? The peloton price for 2D flat screen could easily be the Applepay subscription to cover goggles + service over time.

People spend upwards of $2K for a size-locked monitor. If they want more screen RE, they might spend another $2K for a second. A virtual monitor could be sized to ANY size or one could use any number of monitors "in there." Need a bigger screen for a task like video editing without so much timeline scrolling: make the virtual studio double in width... or triple on demand.

Apple struggles with manufacturing limitations due to covid, war, etc. A big chunk of the price we pay goes to these other parties to make the products. What if the same products are available as virtual offerings within the goggles? No supply chains, no political hurdles, much higher profit margin to buy virtual Mac than physical Mac, etc?

Again, use your imagination to "think different." If you build a device that can replace what we see with something that looks just as real as reality, anything we want to see could be served up in VR. Much like we use ear "goggles" (headphones) instead of lugging our stereos around with us at all times, this could be all visual mediums that command the attention of our eyes. I see towards unlimited applications on the VR side.

On the AR side, everything we use our phones to do now to guide us, give us added information, translate for us, etc. could all be inside these too. Up to almost all phone benefits could be inside. Up to almost all iPad benefits could be inside. Up to almost all Mac benefits could be inside.

All it takes is some imagination applied against the concept of feeding eyes like headphones deliver our stereos for our ears to envision many possibilities. We're the "think different" crowd. Try it.

Man those massive posts of yours.

Just chill. Go back and read the other thread. You will see that so called critics like me don’t mind ar and vr but we don’t act like fanatics about it.

The things you post, you’d didn’t even acknowledge people drink and eat while watching a movie or working, people wear vision correction glasses, they watch movies together. They use an irreplaceable physical keyboard. All this is very difficult with a head set.

I mean knowing me I will buy this XR headset out of curiosity. I have used every VR for 30+ years and became bored with every one of them. Sega VR to Oculus all became boring and uncomfortable. I’ll probably get tired of the Apple one and return it after a week.

Peloton is not selling enough new buyers at the old pace. They still have many millions of bikes in homes and lots of subscription revenue being paid for existing owners to use those bikes. The point of the example is that the payment people make for that could be the payment to do something similar with these, covering the goggles like that payment covers the bikes and advancing the service from smallish 2D screen to 3D, like you are there, experience.

We seem locked into this idea of having to spend $3K out of pocket and then wait for something to do with them. Or that the most these can do is what Meta has offered with Oculus. For a crowd that generally worships at the alter of Apple- where we can rationalize $20 cloths to sell them completely out of stock- our imagination here seems thoroughly limited. What happened to "think different"?

Man even the Peloton copium and hopium.

Peloton is a dumb product and a dumb company. Just go out and ride a bike in the fresh air at 6AM.
