I know this may sound stupid but do you think they will update the Macbooks during the back to school or do you think they will update to kick off or after it ends?

I find this really really humorous and I am really laughing right now.

I JUST bought my new iMac over the weekend, and I used my student discount for the final time, as I am graduating from school. However, I had them customize it to come with a bigger HDD. I completely forgot about this promotion.

The worst part: Since it was customized, I had to order it online while at the store...and it won't be here until June 3rd.

I have to wait almost another week and I won't be getting a free iPod. Oh well, hopefully I will have a job and I can buy an iPod touch.

It may look bad if they do this now, and sell a load of computers, and then bring out a brand new one a month later. That said, it may help to shift a load of extra stock before they bring out a revision.

I think in the past the new ipods have always come out at the end of the promotion and were excluded, but I can't remember if computer models were handled similarly, ie excluded from the promotion.

Well in the past they have always started back to school with some sort of Macbook update. This is their main product that college students buy. I would hope they would release a new one at the release too.

Arn, Is this FOR SURE going to happen on June 3rd?? I ask because I just bought my mom a new macbook pro this morning (you posted the story later). I wan't the nano but my mom wants her computer ASAP. My mom said I could cancel it as long as this is for sure going to happen, should I????

because we're headed for [already in] a recession so anything they can do to up sales in general . . .

Nitpicking here...

An extended decline in general business activity, involving two consecutive quarters of falling real gross national product.

Our economy grew .6% last quarter, therefore disqualifying us for a recession.

On topic, do sales really increase that much with these promotions? Im pretty sure most people who have a Mac already have an iPod.

I was hoping to use it for the iPhone but maybe that won't happen.

I think they will probably exclude the iPhone again.

It is something that has been heard, but the lead-in also said that it is unsure if the promotion will be the same as last year.

YAY!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

I've been waiting since April for this so I can buy a new iMac. I already have an iPhone, maybe they'll let the 3G iPhone qualify for discount (although I doubt it), or I'll sell whatever iPod I get to help pay for the iMac.

I do have a question. Back in 2005 when I bought my PowerBook, I used my edu discount through the online store. Can you use an edu discount at retail stores? Thanks!

the fact that the article says this is going to be "big" makes me think theyre giving out free iPod touches instead of nanos, thinking that the average person will spend over $50 on apps from the new app store.

iPod Touch wouldn't be big, it would be HUGE! that's $100 more than last years deal

Well that sucks, I'm 14, and attend a public school, but dont qualify as a student :( I was getting my sister to use her NHS discount, but then no Free iPod :( why do I have no students in the family :(

so...can you use this promotion with a student discount? or is this the actual student discount?

No im almost positive you can use it along with the education discount. I also second the question "Can you get the same education discount in an Apple Retail Store?" Because i plan on going June 14th to an apple store thats 2 hours away (Closest one) JUst so i dont have to wait for it to ship lol
