Just a question has anyone put an invisible shield on there MBP's? I'm thinking about doing it because I don't want the bottom the scratch or anything...not that I'm not gonna be super careful but I have it on my iPad and iPhone and like the extra layer of protection it gives but I am a little concerned with the heat from the MBP does anyone have any experience with this? Any opinions would be gratefully appreciated thank you:D

Education pricing is tiered, at least here in the UK. The Apple Education store has 3 links; Universities, Colleges + Higher Education establishments and Schools.

I make my quote a 16% discount on the normal list price for us here in the UK. I suspect it would be the same in the US.

The UK and US education discounts are very different. The UK student discount is the best I have seen, and the ~15% we get is more than US students.

Furthermore, UK university students get a free 3 year warranty if buying online or on the phone. Details here. Parents buying for students are addressed in the link. I hope the Apple rep made it clear there was a 3 year warranty for free, but sometimes they don't know about it.

So I went to the mall and got mine on the 16th :) sorry I forgot to come back and post lol I went with the 2.2 17macbook pro and upgraded the ram to 8gig. I was contemplating getting the the 2.3 but in the end I didn't think there really is a noticeable difference and a few people at the store confirmed this. Supposedly upgrading the ram is what really makes the difference all though now I have nothing to compare to. Total came out to 2666.93. I decided to wait a little bit with the apple care but I am 100% gonna get it.

I hope everyone is enjoying their new macs

Agree. If you like running many software at the same time, upgrading the RAM will make a difference. Also, upgrading from HDD to SSD will make a noticable difference too, especially the start time and software loading time.

I'm not getting that laptop in the end :p I changed my mind and cancelled the order. I wanted to get a SSD because they read much faster but I'm reading that a lot of people upgrade or refurbish their laptops on their own by buying the new components separately and installing them. I don't even know how I would do that since I'm afraid of blotching the laptop if I open it, but I guess I wouldn't need to change any component in the first couple of years, anyway.

My current laptop is just SO slow and I'm so frustrated!! I've been bearing with it for 2-3 years now, since it started working funny. I've had to format it twice and to get it cleaned inside twice too. Right now I'm not even writing on it, since it's so in agony that it won't start up. Lol, the BTS promo has been released in the nick of time XD Now I want something real fast, but maybe HDD will do for the time being, until I have the need to upgrade. I read a lot from my filed data and use many simultaneous applications.

I can't place a new order on the Apple Store for a few days because I have to wait for them to unblock my money, but I reckon I will be able to do it on Monday/Tuesday :) That way I'll have more time to think, lol. Is it worth it to get the 8GB RAM?? I'm reconsidering that as well but I think I'll still stick to that :p

BTW, I'm thinking about getting the Magic Mouse. I've noticed that it gets a student discount. I was at a store the other day and the MM was a lot more expensive  But from what I gather, the Mobee Magic Charger is not that great, though. I'd get the regular charger.

THIS THREAD IS BACK! lol

Good choice. Take the base model and upgrade later if needed. If your scared to do it yourself, pay a shop to do it for you. Nevertheless, as the posters said above, it's not tough. Good luck.:)

Thank you very much ... you just saved me another £205 as I had every intention of purchasing Applecare. Thats a saving in total of £700 off a 6 core Mac Pro with 3 years warranty :)

Glad I could be of help. :)

AppleCare purchased at the time is £54 for a Mac Pro for a student through the education store. You should have seen that when ordering I hope?

$100 to the App Store

New what? MacBook Pro's? Ivy Bridge isn't going to be released until 2012. The MacBook Airs, MacBooks and Mac Mini's will likely get refreshed around WWDC and the Mac Pro won't get updated until Intel releases their Sandy Bridge server processors in the fourth quarter.

The Macbook Pro is in mid product cycle. I dont see a new MBP coming out for at least a year. I thought the 13" is the best bang for you buck. Is this true? I have been gaming and havn't run into any problems yet.

I just recently bought a MBP 13". I received a student discount and $100 to the app store, as well as a free printer. I like that deal much better. I plan on buying an i phone when verizon gets the iphone 3g for a good price. When will this happen? never?

Any thoughts on applications to spend my app store $$$.
