Apple's yearly Back to School promotion is due to kick off tomorrow (Tuesday, May 25th). Apple will be offering a free iPod (up to $199 value) to students and faculty purchasing a qualifying Mac. Discounts do not extend to iPads or iPhones.

The promotion is expected to run from May 25th to September 7th, 2010. More details should be available tomorrow.

Select/Use your old high school to get a student discount, seriously. :) Works great.

Got a MBP last week....am I SOL?

Me too! I read some posts of that happening to people last year and apparently if you sweet talk the Apple employees they'll give it to you. You might need to bring your MBP box and "return" it and the re-buy it with an iPod. I'm gonna find out more details tomorrow, they won't talk about it now because the promotion wasn't officially announced yet.

I am hoping this is possible. Doubtful though. Don't see why they shouldn't do this. 199 towards an ipod, ipod touch, or nano is the same as 199 towards an ipad.

Not true. The iPods cost a lot less than $199 to make, so giving those away is cheaper than giving away the more expensive iPads, even at discount. Also, they probably want to get rid of them because new ones will come out pretty soon, whereas the iPad is a brand new device.
