This is crazy. Last night I was thinking to myself why doesn't Apple release wireless headphones that are sweat-proof and feature isolation but under the Beats brand. Wow.

I guess my only remaining question is if they will feature a wireless charging case. I love my Powerbeats3 and would really love a truly wireless version, but I really want a wireless charging case too. And I feel like these won't have that.

"Apple won't be cannibalizing its own AirPods sales because Powerbeats are designed for working out, running, and other athletic activities that aren't really meant for AirPods."

I don't get that. I have both, and PowerBeats work perfectly fine in situations that AREN'T working out, running and other athletic activities. In fact, PowerBeats are far more flexible than Airpods are.

FINALLY!!!! I've been waiting to upgrade my Powerbeats 3's with truly wireless styled Powerbeats for the longest cause I'm personally not a fan of the AirPods. So this is great news for me!!!!

AirPods have been my gym headphones since launch but they only stay in my ears if I attach some Spigen silicon ear hooks, which has become an annoying nuisance after a couple years of doing it. I'd been hoping for true wireless canal buds with the W1 chip's improvements, thinking that Beats would make them.

The reviews of Samsung Galaxy Buds looked promising enough that I picked up a pair a week ago and they're working out pretty well for me, especially since my AirPods batteries are elderly. I'm using AirPods for some tasks and the Buds for those when sound isolation and more secure fit is ideal, so I'm certainly going to keep using both. I like everything about the Galaxy Buds except for the stuff that the W1 (now H1) chips make better, like switching between devices and preventing dropouts.

Edit: I'm also tired of having to clean my ears with alcohol wipes at the end of the day in order to get good sound/fit from the AirPods. Having the Buds has resolved that problem.

True wireless for me is about tangle free commuting and workouts. When I don't care about wires but want canal buds for isolation (like at work), I use Shure se215's. When at home and want to watch TV loud and not disturb the neighbors, I use Audio Technica ATH M50x.

I'd bet there's a significant portion of the populace that has no idea the two companies are associated.

Almost certainly true. While it seems odd to people here, most people have no idea about who owns who.

Apple’s approach has been to improve their functionality with Apple Gear, while not messing with the brand.

AirPods stay absolutely fine in my ears on my runs. Have used them since day one and I have yet to have them fall off my ears. Not to mention they are so light that I don't even feel them being in my ears if it wasn't for the music.

I've been running with AirPods since they were released and have not had a single issue with them falling off or moving.

Same, I ran for a couple years with mine so far and have not once fallen out.

Mine work fine working out and running. No need to purchase anything else.

Congrats on being included in the size that fits the one size fits "all" design of Airpods. For the rest of us, they suck. They stay in one of my ears perfect, but the other one falls out immediately after putting it in.

I hope that indeed this means there will be a refresh for the Beats headphones. I have the wireless Solo3 which I like a lot, but would love a proximity sensor to detect when I'm actually wearing the headphones. There is nothing more annoying then trying to get Siri on my phone to unsuccessfully dictate a message, set up a reminder, etc and then finally realizing Siri doesn't understand because the Bluetooth headphones are powered on in another room and (understandably) Siri can't understand what I'm trying to say from another room. I love how the airpods have a proximity sensor. If I'm wearing them, Siri works through the airpods. If I set them down, the Siri on my phone that I'm using listens and works.

Except that they aren't "in" or Apple-like. Not that that's a dealbreaker for everyone, but I don't think a typical consumer would hesitate for a second to pick AirPods over Beats given the choice, even if it means giving up features or flexibility.

You (and others) act as though these are the exception cases, but for the majority of users, AirPods (and by extension, EarPods) work well. AirPods actually do better in a lot of cases because they're lighter and don't have the wire pulling them out of your ear.

Just because you can't wear earphones without jamming them in your ear doesn't mean AirPods don't work for running or the gym.

Great to hear. I've been using Jaybird X3's for a couple years. The first set I had stopped charging. They exchanged them and now this set is starting to act up (static in the right ear, not charging properly). I ordered the Airpod 2nd gen earlier this week to replace my Jaybirds. Fingers crossed.

I prefer AirPod's to headphones like these, but good for those who prefer the in/over the ear type. I am surprised they said AirPod's aren't made for working out since all the marketing materials I have seen with the Watch/AirPod's say otherwise. I use them daily for working and running and they stay perfectly.

very happy with my Jabra Elite 65T's but if they make these smaller than the current ones and with a wireless charging case I might give them a look.

This will be awesome. I have the Powerbeats 3 and held out on the AirPods due to no noise cancelation. Being an avid runner in the Northeast, I am confined to the treadmill at the gym and I used to hear ever stride with my old Apple headphones

I'm definitely looking forward to this. The Beats brand gets a lot of crap, but the PowerBeats have always been my go to for workout headphones. I just hope that they don't abandon the volume and pause controls.

Actually, that’s exactly what it means.

Apple should release some one size fits all shoes for people to run in. See how stupid of an idea that is?

Blanket statements like "they don't work in the gym or for running" just isn't true, because they do for most people. Just not for you and the other anecdotal exceptions.

You want Apple to start making size 6-to-16 AirPods for every variation of an ear? Or how about 10 versions of an iPhone for every sized hand?

Beats exist as the over-ear or silicone-tip option. AirPods use the 'iconic' design of the white EarPod buds. They may eventually make an in-ear variant like theirs from years ago, but AirPods do in-fact work for running. They physically function for people who use them while running or at the gym. To say otherwise is just ridiculous.

this is why airpods wasn't designed to stay in your ears when working out/running, so apple can sell you the beats for your working out/running. :D

According to the AirPods commercial, you can dance down the street and they shouldn't fall out.

Recently, I was out walking, and I saw a lady jogging on the sidewalk with AirPods and they weren't falling out of her ears.

My AirPods have never fallen out of my ears.

If they fall out, it's not because you are exercising; it's because they don't ft your ear properly to being with.

I like when people just talk ) without any facts, get your ass and go and run and see how good airpods are for even 10km run... bye....

Aukey bluetooth earbuds sound as good as any Airpods or Beats, and they only cost about $20-30. I've had my current pair of EP-B4 for over two years and they're still as good as the day I bought them.

Also... the wire stops you from losing one.

How can Apple fix your specific issue in which one AirPod fits fine in one of your ears yet falls out of the other one? You’re asking for too much from a single product when others exist with interchangeable tips (making them in ear which is not Apple’s goal).

Apple has been mass producing their headphones since the iPod Classic days and have always made them a one size fits all.

Bring it on!!!! :)

I enjoy Airpods for phone calls, but I LOVE my powerbeats during a hard workout.

My only complaint is when the cord is swinging around or tugging during HIIT training.
This would be awesome!
