In fairness the pound has devalued a fair bit hence the increase in prices in the UK. £1 went from around $1.70 to as low as $1.21 and even now that it's performing a bit better it's still only at around $1.24.

As much as I'd appreciate better pricing in the UK I can't say I blame them when you consider just how far the pound has fallen.

It doesn't work the other way though. When the dollar was doing really badly for a number of years, we didn't see any benefit in the UK. We only see price hikes & disproportionate increases.

Apple are not the only one's guilty of this of course, but American companies love to fleece us Brits at any given opportunity.

The outrageous UK pricing of the new MacBook Pro's (15" in particular) is nothing to do with currency, it's just greed.

I feel bad for all the people who have expressed interest in "the new MacBook Pro" that are going to get a circa-2012 model that Apple is inexplicably still selling. It must be so confusing for the average non-tech nerd to navigate. I miss the days when Apple would just discontinue a product when a new and better version was released.
Agreed, I consider myself a bit of an Apple nerd and was waiting to see what the deals would be on the new TouchBar Macbooks were, but found it hard to work out what models were being discounted, especially since I didn't know they were still selling the old models. No mention of "first released on …".

I am a bit disappointed there isn't a discount/gift card on the new models - I got one on my current iMac in 2012, But then again this looks like a real sale, in the old-fashioned sense, discounting old gear to clear the shelves for the new stuff. I think the TouchBar MacBooks are a victim of their own success. Why discount them when everyone is queueing up to pay top dollar for them? It makes commercial sense.

Really disappointing.
Some dealers in my country are offering 25% discount on Apple Watch or Mac, that's a deal for black friday. Apple is offering a 25$ gift card for the Watch and 150$ for a Mac, it is less than 10% and is a gift card so you have to buy something more.
No thanks

Anyone knows if the gift cards can be used this same day In order to concatenate gifts and purchases? Thank you

Oh and by the way, the gift card has not an expire date, right?

Depends if Apple can provide you the gift card in the same day for use. (For reference on the gift cards, you can only use up to eight gift cards on one purchase.) You can use the gift card to purchase other Apple hardware.

And the gift cards do not have an expiration date.

Black Friday deals (not just Apple's) are getting less and less relevant. When we have Black Friday deals in July, clearly retailers have over used the concept.

As for Apple's, its rather pathetic

That picture of the Apple Watch says it all for me. I do use my iPhone all the time for shopping lists, but this just looks ridiculous. It still seems like a product still trying to find a serious use, although I think the activity/health data aspect of it is good.

Apple has sadly become a joke.
Exactly. But their BF sales have been always lame. I mean who purchase from them when you can clearly find much much better deals elsewhere?

Similar to Gamestop. They are in business becasue old people with grand children and soccer moms don't know what and where. :)

Hmm... go on over to bestbuy.com and save $125 on an iPad Air for my mom, or pay full price and get a $50 gift card?
Hard choice. :) :)

The funny thing is that even when taking the gift card value of your purchase into account, it still works out more expensive than before the price hike in the UK store.

Apple doesn't understand what value is. Too bad.

Yep - you'd have to be really profligate/stupid rich to think there is any value here as a punter.

This 100%. The entire product line is a mess.

So you expect them to discount products that are setting records and were just released.... why, exactly? They have no incentive to do so.

$25 off the already $100+ discounted price...

Almost every other retailer is able to offer incentives on these new products except Apple....hmm?

Wow. Apple knocks some money off for the holidays and people complain. This essentially mirrors any other Black Friday sale Apples had.

Further, Apple does not have the new MacBooks in stock, why would it lower the price?
