Dear Macrumors,

Please learn how to write an article. There is no such thing as a "free gift card" if you have to purchase something else in order to receive the gift card.

So you expect them to discount products that are setting records and were just released.... why, exactly?

Which records are you talking about? You mean that one email Phil Schiller sent to someone saying the new MacBook Pros are selling well? That's hardly an actual representation of sales. Fanboys... lol

Apple Watch Series 1 42mm $228 or $299 + $25 gift card hmm, gotta laugh at Apple's feeble Black Friday "sale." I am surprised Target and Best Buy still offer the Series 1 AW despite their sales?

Apple offers a cheap gift card to buy the Watch 1... it is still higher than what retailers are selling them for!

Apple greedy has no bounds.
I was looking for maybe a $50 card buying the AW2 Nike+ but they only offer discounts for old hardware. Really?
I love Apple but the only way they will wake up is when people stop buying their stuff. I am holding to my iPhone 5s for another year and my MBP 2015 until it dies. Enough of this crap Tim!

I would upgrade to the SE right now tbh. Solid deals out there if anything with carrier finance plans or you could take Apple's $25 gift card with the regular price as a default for $400 USD.

Yeah because I'm sure some kid will just have a casual shopping list worth thousands.
Kid? You mean adults aren't allowed to have moms and dads? That could be the Christmas shopping list of a 40 year old executive for all you know.

Almost every other retailer is able to offer incentives on these new products except Apple....hmm?
Like every Black Friday.... why'd you expect different?

"Fanboys..." disvalidates your point. Stupidity stoops to name calling as opposed to actual discussion.

Ask all the third-party independent analytics if these are record breaking. Hint - yes they are. IPhone profits in industry, most MacBooks sold on release, etc. etc.

you get a gift card. not $25 off.
Which, for almost everybody who frequents this website as well as most Apple customers, are the same thing (because they'll all at some point buy from Apple again). Whether $25 is saved today or in a month, its saved.

Apple greedy has no bounds.
Consumer entitlement has no bounds. They don't owe you anything. Apple has never offered crazy Black Friday discounts on new hardware, yet you expect them to do it now, just because you want a pony?

Well, they sold a billion iPhones, and they're in the process of selling tens of millions more, so I don't think your boycott is going to get much traction.

Like every Black Friday.... why'd you expect different?

I think I bought into the hype that their email earlier in the week instilled which set me for extra disappointment.

But I don't remember the latest models being excluded previous Black Fridays, but I could be wrong.

Apple's special Black Friday shopping event is now live in the United States and Canada, offering customers free Apple Store gift cards worth up to $150 or CA$200 with the purchase of selected Apple products today only.

black-friday-apple.jpeg

The offers are available through Apple's website and retail stores in both countries. Each customer is limited to two gift cards per product category. Refurbished products and educational store purchases do not qualify.

U.S. rebate amounts include:

- Macs: $150 (iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro sans late 2016 models)
- iPad Pro: $100
- iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4: $50
- iPhone 6s and 6s Plus: $50
- iPhone SE: $25
- Apple Watch Series 1: $25
- Apple TV: $25

The one-day promotion is also ongoing in the United Kingdom (up to £120) and elsewhere in Europe, including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Apple's offers are rather lackluster considering better Black Friday deals are available on select iPhones, iPads, and Macs from authorized resellers such as B&H Photo Video and MacMall. Moreover, many of Apple's newest products such as the iPhone 7 and MacBook Pro with Touch Bar are not eligible for the gift card promotion.

The one-day shopping event has concluded in Australia and New Zealand, where it is now Saturday local time.

Apple does not need special deals to sell their product, so there isn't a point in offering.

But their deal is smart because it further deepens the relationship of a consumer to apple products, making them likelier to be a longtime customer. A LOT of people ❤️ Apple products and Apple is a multi billion company with multi billion sales, hence they are not dependent on giving discounts and they do not have to.

I don't work for apple, but I assume they have some sort of "we can't be the lowest price on our own products" policy, which would include holidays.

Strange then to have a spit in the customer's face Black Friday sale.

I don't see that anywhere....? This isn't anything new or low for Apple. It's actually a sale, just not what spoiled buyers want.

I think it is a new low because it excludes their latest offerings, something I don't remember being true previously.

Not entitlement at all. I don't mind spending tons of money on Apple if they provide the performance and improvements I expect. My issue is they are crippling their Mac hardware and charging more than ever for it.
As for Black Friday, they are only offering gift cards on very outdate hardware.
I am a huge Apple fan but don't drink the cool aid all the time. I praise them as much as I criticize.
As for my boycott I know Apple doesn't care but you can be certain they can't fool most people for too long if they do not innovate and bring real value to their customers while charging too much (MacPro/MacMini). They went through this in the 90's and this time Steve is not around to save them again.

Or go to Best Buy and a $160 gift card. Yes, that's exactly how pathetic BBY is kicking the **** out of AAPL in terms of discounts and gift cards this year. Pretty freaking sad.
