it's $999 in Australia with tax - affordable my foot! Definitely buying a used 14, 15 or 16 over this boring, cheap looking not cheap phone. Apple overestimates people's desire for Ai
Apple overestimates their position in the current market. In Europe they are losing lots of potential new customers because these kids grew up with a ‘cheap’ android phone.

It’s a good option for people who don’t care about MagSafe, 120 hz, dynamic island and all that extra stuff - its for people who just need an iPhone, iOS, decent camera. I would buy this one because it’s a way to get good iPhone for less money.

Doesn’t the UK include tax in that price? It’s 719 in the Netherlands but that’s including 21% tax.
Still kind of expensive, when the average price in the US after tax will be around $650-$660, and if you live in a state like Delaware, you wouldn't even have to pay sales tax.

It'll do fine...My company, for example, buys hundreds of SE model iPhones per year. They'll do the same with this one.

SE has always been a popular corporate phone.
We used to have SEs but they have stopped issuing them and switched to budget Samsung instead.

I don't know what corporate discounts Apple vs Samsung et all offers but I wouldn't be surprised if the higher cost would depress corporate sales.

Interesting that's it's actually cheaper (pre-tax) in Australia than the U.S.

Pre-tax it's A$908 which at the current exchange rate is around $575 USD compared to $599 USD pre-sales tax for same phone in U.S.

In the UK it's priced at £599, which is roughly $750, not $600.

I was intending to buy one at release, but not when I'm paying an extra $150 for it.

But the £599 UK price includes VAT while the U.S. price doesn't include any potential sales tax.

The pre-VAT UK price is around £499 which at the current exchange rate is around $626 or only $27 USD more than same phone in U.S.

iPhone SE was typically very heavily discounted by retailers (even when buying on prepaid / without installment billing or subsidies). Will be interesting to see if that continues with the 16SE or pricing ends up holding closer to retail like it does with the flagship lines.

If retailers are able to discount these down to say ~$450-$500 within a few months time, I could see it selling like gangbusters. If pricing ultimately holds closer to the $599 MSRP, then I don't see this model gaining significant traction (even for those who happen to care about Apple Intelligence, you could pickup an excellent condition used or refurbished iPhone 15 Pro for $600 or less which is a far superior phone).

Seems they prefer profit margins vs gaining new customers. I find that surprising considering the revenue from services they’ll be limiting.

Can't underestimate how strong the resale market is for used & refurbished iPhones (which provide Apple with the pathway to the service revenue that we all know at this point is more meaningful to them than the profit on the initial sale of the device).

<sigh> Comments where the British VAT system needs to be explained to Brits by non-Brits.

The boomers who buy these don't even know what MagSafe is. That's why it's not included.
what's with the constant ageist comments? are you suggesting the product is good on the premise that the consumer is stupid?

because that's not saying much about the device at all. it implies it doesn't matter what apple does, discrediting them is entirely

Apple is selling 16e in China for $549 plus 13% VAT.

Funny how a bit of competition from Huawei makes Apple rethink prices.

631$ + 25% VAT in Sweden. If the operators don't give a good offer, people wouldn't go for it. In android world, you can get a premium product for this price. For those who buy without subscription, can easily find a brand new 16 or even 16 pro in classifieds for around this rate.
It's hard to find a reason to buy 16e. If the price was 150$ lower, it would have been a different story.

Who is this phone for? It’s too expensive for those who want a budget phone. And everyone else will buy something better.
Apparently is for the bulk corporate guys like the one above...

what a disappointment... for that price i should consider the iphone 16 (or nothing for the matter) because as a i already posted above the iphone 17 is gonna cost 1000 bucks easily (IMO).
