So on my motorcycle.

Previous: Take off right hand leather glove use phone.

The Future: Take off right hand leather glove, Take off glasses, take off full face crash helmet, LOOK at phone, use phone, put crash helmet back on, put glasses back on.

FaceID works thru helmet.

I want 2 factor, where options include passcode and FaceID and VoiceID.

TouchID is extinct.

Hypothetical, yet (IMO) plausible scenario: law enforcement, or for that matter anyone, only has to point your phone at your face to unlock it?

You have to look into the camera if you have the atention aware feature turned on. Meaning, if you don’t look directly at it, it won’t unlock the iPhone.

But I’m not sure why this is even a such a big concern for most? The vast majority of us will never be in a situation where law enforcement will want to go through our phones. And those that are up to something shady will probably be wise enough to use a complex passcode to keep people out of any incriminating evidence that might be found in the phone. And if you ever get mugged, just let them take it and quickly find someone with an iOS device (or any computer, basically) and sign into Find My iPhone and lock it remotely — or even wipe it altogether. It’s not that big of an issue IMO.

Assuming you are logging into your phone instead of looking at notifications, that means you have enough time to take gloves off and put in a passcode by double tapping the display. however if you are on the road, you would never have the time to see past the notifications so this scenario has the same probability of happening as someone wearing winter gloves with touch ID

Well, sh...

Has anyone mentioned the orientation yet?

Like in bed or at an odd angle. Does the phone have to be held reasonably square to your face, or can you unlock it, regardless of the orientation between your phone and face?
Yaeh, I always fumble with the iPhone on my nightstand to check e-mail etc. in the morning. Touch ID seems way more convenient in those scenarios.

Glad he mentioned that wearing a mask won't work because I had assumed I wouldn't be able to use FaceID in the operating room. Kinda sucks but I figured as much.

It's going to be great fun just looking at peoples X phones and activating the passcode option... I foresee endless fun in the office

Not sure I'm getting a new phone this year now. If Face ID works reliably and its secure then I don't care about bringing back Touch ID. As far as having to remove various items, from the article it sounds like a motorcyclist would have to raise the visor. Sunglasses would only be a problem on heavily IR shielded ones. So no removing helmet, glasses, gloves etc.

That's the claim. Right now I don't about anyone who can validate those statements who doesn't work for or isn't very closely associated with Apple.

Bring back Touch ID under the glass for next year’s iPhone!

Part of me agrees... the other part is thinking once I go Face ID that I’ll never want to go back... they could implement both for convenience sake!

I think you first need to try out yourself before asking to remove it again. Like this Touch ID and many other yet common technologies would have never been established.

I thought the same thing. Someone leaves their phone out and you raise it and look. Might be a little more difficult/time consuming to do if you have to do it 5 times, instead of just twice like first reports had it. I wonder if the number of validation tries was changed because of the demonstration.

So what? you have a unique use-case. Apple never promised they're going to make your life better.

huh?
why wouldn't you just use the passcode instead of taking all that crap off?
