Face ID does not work when:
- Face is covered
- Wear anti-IR sunglasses (not common)

Touch ID does not work when:
- Hands are covered
- fingers are sweaty or moist

huh?
why wouldn't you just use the passcode instead of taking all that crap off?

"First World Problem"
"Creating an issue out of a non-issue"

Isn't Face ID the thing that failed when Apple first demonstrated it to the world? Oh yeah and wasn't Craig Federighi the one holding it in his hand when it failed? I say give it a year or two and let them work the kinks out of it. By iPhone 11 or 12, it should be decent. Anytime you buy a first generation feature, it will fail and there will be bugs. And at the price of a down payment on a car or perhaps a new laptop, it had better work perfectly every time.

Been out of the loop? It didn't fail work but worked as intended as the fired Apple interns were testing it and locked up the face ID on the primary demo unit

No, the phone did what it is was supposed to do.

FaceID works thru helmet.

I want 2 factor, where options include passcode and FaceID and VoiceID.

TouchID is extinct.

Face ID will work thru a Full Face Crash Helmet?
I hope to see this tested as soon as the public can get their hands on them.

Hypothetical, yet (IMO) plausible scenario: law enforcement, or for that matter anyone, only has to point your phone at your face to unlock it?

In a way, law enforcement can already unlock your phone if TouchID is switched on by simply (or aggressively) placing a suspect’s finger on the phone. I’d assume a suspect would be asked to open the phone, refusing to do so is one thing, being made through force or aggression to do so is something else.

With FaceID, a suspect could not only refuse to do so but physically move their head around or shut their eyes, make a face, etc. Just theorising here, could play out completely different in an actual real situation...

Only if you haven’t managed to squeeze the two side buttons when handing it over to them (as that disables FaceID) & you’re looking directly at the phone. As Federighi says in the interview. Eyes have to be open & looking directly at the phone for it to work.

So...

Face ID is incredible, it's the future and will only get better over time. 1/1,000,000, even when wearing polarized glasses!

More people in my opinion in the US (not sure about international) use gloves and have wet or dirty hands more often than wearing face-covering costumes or helmets.
In Japan (not sure about other Asian countries) people wear surgical masks all the time, so FaceID might not take off here as quickly as it will in other countries.

I'm sure (and this is a guess)

IF, and I know it's a BIG If..... the people who actually develop stuff can make for phones, touch ID that works thru the screen, and Android phones start to offer it.
Apple will add this back when there makers can supply Apple with the parts Apple need.

Did you even read it? Face ID works with most sunglasses.

Read carefully what the original poster wrote. He said full face helmet. There is only a slit for the eyes. Ears, mouth, nose, chin down to neck are covered by opaque material. As much or more is covered than the surgical mask that will NOT work.

Touch ID: 50,0001 try someone else can get in
Face ID: 1,000,001 try someone else can get in

It would never be that many people. Instead of gathering a million random people to hack a phone, you get maybe 100 people that look very much like the person that owns the phone. I bet one of those faces will work.

Fingerprint would be harder.

I'm amazed people are just accepting the million to 1 as fact, just because it was used in a sales pitch.

I'm not saying it's a lie, but I will reserve my opinion till real people/reviewers and proper testers get their hands on them and tell us what they find.

Exactly.... Take your phone, handcuff you and point it at your face.... Done deal.

Kinda like with Touch ID now where they can take your phone, handcuff you and put your finger on the bottom? Just close your eyes 5 times and it will disable it...or use a passcode to hide your criminal activity...or quit doing criminal ****

I'm waiting for the interview about why they decided to put a notch at top instead of everything flush. It is just jarring to see safari in landscape with a section of the page (which is most likely empty space) missing. Or the Mail app, photos, settings....just a lot of scenarios where it would bother me. I'm not in the market for a new phone (at least my wife thinks I'm not), but the 10 isn't it for me. If it was just a black bar at the top to make things flush, sign me up. Everyone have a great weekend!

So on my motorcycle.

Previous: Take off right hand leather glove use phone.

The Future: Take off right hand leather glove, Take off glasses, take off full face crash helmet, LOOK at phone, use phone, put crash helmet back on, put glasses back on.
Seriously?

Think people are skeptical after the failure on stage other day when unlocking the phone, and it's hasent been good PR for Apple with this
It was not a failure!!! You obviously didn't pay close enough attention &/or read Apple's response.

but you are saying its a lie.
