Do not buy that crap! I got one and failed to returned.

1. Face ID is slow, is pure garbage. Most of the time I have to type my passcode any way so I deactivated face ID which... is useless any way.

2. Thy change the home button and put it on a side. Now I have to keep guessing the combination with the two other buttons and the left side to do the exact same things I used to do with my older iPhone 5 WHICH now feels superior.

3. The new camera may be better than other iPhones but is way inferior than Samsung.

At the end they just moved things around added clumsy features you do not need and with an X is $1000. Wait until I see Tim Cook.
Spoken like a Samsung fan who doesn't actually own an iPhone X. There is no home button. Camera tests by firms who know about quality pictures still give the X the edge over anything Samsung has to offer. A Note 8 is almost $1,000... running generic Android that Samsung spends next to nothing on for development - they don't write Android, and they don't have an App Store. It's ok, though... the carrier bloatware is free of charge, and don't hold your breath on timely updates, since Apple is still the only company to wrestle that away from the carriers. Oh, and you can keep being Google's product, and don't forget to consult your eye doctor before using the iris scanner, as you WILL get eye strain from using it. There are warnings during setup. On top of that, the most secure part of the iris scanner can't be used in low light, so it's useless.

I, originally, bought the 8 Plus 256GB, but didn't feel it was anything special over my 7 Plus. I didn't NEED 256GB (I typically only use about 30GB). I had no trouble going for a 64GB X, which was only $50 more than the 8 Plus 256. I'll take FaceID and the new UI gestures any day over using a home button again. It's so much more natural to just swipe to get where you need to be, instead of press, press, press of the home button. The only thing I'm not crazy about, is the new way to force close an app, but I understand why it is the way it is, so I've adapted. Otherwise, it would be difficult for me to go back to any other iPhone with a home button. Oh, and the display is just brilliant.
Lol, i love your logic to justify the price of the iPhone X by saying it's only $50 dearer than the iPhone 8 plus....

Since you say you don't need the 256Gb memory, why didn't you just get the 64Gb iPhone 8 plus instead? The price difference between the 64Gb iPhone 8 plus and 64Gb iPhone X is £200 (in UK).

I mostly don't want the iPhone X because of a lack of Touch ID.

Siri is always telling me "you need to unlock your iPhone first" and usually if I'm asking Siri something, it means I don't want to pickup my phone and hold it up to my face. Touching phone briefly much more convenient when its in the phone cradle on the dash of my car.

I like my headphone jack too, so iPhone 6S+ where I'm at until the phone goes kaput.
It’s user error. And bet you miss VHS tapes as well?

Another story with unnamed sources to drive the stock price down before earnings release. They were able to bring the stock down 4% last week. I’m sure this report is good for another 2-3% today.

Also everyone complaining about the price...as far as I know Apple never guided to higher margins in their earnings call. To me that signals that the phone is priced higher because it’s more expensive to make. Of course everyone complained about Apple being behind the competition because they didn’t sell an OLED phone. Now everyone is complaining it’s too expensive. But how many people are buying an X outright? Aren’t most people on a payment plan? My monthly bill with AT&T went up $15 when I got an X. Is that really breaking the bank? No.

I think that there is many more factors then just price influencing the sales.
The biggest of all being the line up...
Having the X, 8/8+, 7/7+, 6s and SE is just spreading to thin. I would hope to see them go in a another direction soon and make 2 series.
The x Series with phone the current size, smaller and larger. OLED display, faceID maybe a little better spec/camera (not the most important diversifier).
And the "normal" series in the sizes we know, including a SE sized model with same hardware (camera might be different). LCD Screen, touchID and what not.

No, just not anyone is willing to pay this price. Your attitude is exactly what Apple wants you to think: "I am special", and you become price tag blind.

They go hand in hand.

People aren’t willing to pay so much partly due to not wanting to spend so much and not being able to

I did a lot not all btw. The average person couldn’t afford to buy this phone and some simply didn’t want to

That said they still sold millions of them so plenty still wanted them

I pay $12 a more monthly for my X then my iPhone 7. What’s so expense about that?
That's the problem: judging based on what monthly expense can be afforded rather than look at it from the angle that they will be spending "x" amount for a product.

For example, say someone cannot afford a higher priced vehicle, so they push the loan out to 7 years to reduce the payment so it becomes affordable. The interest rate usually goes up and they pay more than it appears. It seems okay, because their monthly payment didn't rise.

I know of some people who put all of their Christmas gifts on a credit card and are unable to pay it back and the debt is still there by the next Christmas. Rather than buy gifts they can afford, they want to give nicer gifts. I find the whole thing disconcerting.

If they are cutting production, it means demand and supply are no longer in sink. There are not plenty of people enough who want it, hence the cut-back. Let's see what happens.....

I'm a long-time Apple customer. When I'd upgrade my iPhone I'd get the highest capacity of the flagship model. This time around though I decided that the 64GB 8 Plus was all I was willing to spend. I'm not surprised to read that others in the market for a new iPhone came to a similar decision.
The highest capacity of the 8 and 8 Plus are actually cheaper than the highest capacity of the 7 and 7 Plus (all 256 GB). It's just that the 8 did get less upgrades than the 7 or 6s had over their predecessors. And that the iPhone X is cutting down the perceived attractiveness of the 8 and 8 Plus.

Millions and millions are said to have got one though. So clearly there is demand just not as high as expected

Exactly, you even see these ridiculous adds telling people that your loan it to expensive and they will make it cheaper for you. The increase the term by 3 and the interest by (only) 2 so on monthly basis you are paying a lower amount.........over 3 time the original period at a double interest rate: GOOD THINKING GENIUS!

The price tag was the reason I just held onto my 7 plus. Hopefully their lineup this year is more reasonably priced with better storage options. Otherwise, a Pixel 3 may be in my future.

I jumped ship this year to Galaxy S8. Pretty happy so far.

Reason: Apple CarPlay vs. Android Auto

Update those damn maps Apple and start providing trafic info in more places !!!
Or just allow Google Maps or Waze on your CarPlay until you fix it.

For now, you lost a long-time customer and fan (still fan of MPB... cause I didn't had to change it yet with the new one w/o connectivity and SD slot... damn!)
