It’s actually a bit worse. From the Bloomberg article: `Walker also raised doubts about even meeting the current release expectations. Though Apple is aiming for iOS 19, it “doesn’t mean that we’re shipping then,” Walker said.’

And from last week’s article: `For iOS 19, Apple’s plan is to merge both systems together and roll out a new Siri architecture. I expect this to be introduced as early as Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June of this year — with a launch by spring 2026 as part of iOS 19.4. The new system, dubbed “LLM Siri” internally, was supposed to also introduce a more conversational approach in the same release. But that is now running behind as well and won’t be unveiled in June.’

I wouldn’t be surprised if it slips to iOS 20.

And making generations of iPhones obsolete, cause this new Siri will need 12GB due to inefficient coding. Its gonna be a rushed product.

The only critical thinking that came up was oh jeez why can’t actually deliver this so we better delay it for another year
Sure it’s a good, conservative strategy. It’s a win/win. Let’s people know there’s a delay and gives Apple the ability to assess what has to be done and how much time is needed.

I don’t get it. When I worked for a tech company in Seattle (not Bill’s), no software was released or marketed until a minimum set of requirements was met, one being a gold master of the final software code that had been fully tested / debugged / reviewed / trialed by devs in multiple internal releases / executive-approved / etc.

Does that not happen anymore? To not do the above opens a company up to massive liability. Why knowingly release crap? It hurts your brand and causes previously loyal and happy customers to become unhappy and causes them to consider defecting to other brands.

It seems slightly weird that such a demonstration would be necessary in a meeting of the Siri team. Shouldn’t they more or less know their progress? Or maybe they are compartmentalized into a dozen separate subteams who aren’t allowed to speak to each other.
I think that paragraph was the entire point of this “leak”.

Gruber said there was no evidence these features were working. Hey presto, a “leaked” “internal” “meeting” includes a demo of said features. Everything else is just noise.

I worked in product development most of my career and "s&*t happens", to everyone. Then you course correct.
But, that is beyond some posters here ...

Same here. Most of my career was as both a hardware and a systems engineer in aerospace. Delays happen once in awhile, for a variety of reasons.

Customers more or less expect that to happen occasionally when you're really pushing the envelope. People who have never worked in product development that pushes the envelope will *never* understand that.

I know little about AI, but I suspect that's an area where the envelope is being pushed pretty hard, resulting in expected delays.

You really think anyone at Apple now care about the brand? Its about revenue and money.

Failed products like Airpower, Apple Car, AVP, Homepods. Releasing upgrades that cripple performance just to make you upgrade and get the revenue going.

Downgrading re-introduced products with lesser microphones and downgraded wifi modules in a world where wifi 6 is standard.

Rebranding SoC from last year making them as a new gen.

Leaving out 1 year old products from small feature updates claiming it needs new SoC to run. A product that was released last year.

Macbook Pro redesign the screens all come with dents ALL of them and nobody is doing anything about it yet people pay premium. A cheap a** HP doesnt even have dents in brand new laptops.

Now selling iPhones with non existing and conceptual videos just to let people buy an iPhone 15 rebranded 16.

Apple watch ever since gen 5 it got rebranded till series 7 maybe even 9.

The iPhone stopped innovating since 11.

iPadOS feels like Win 3.1 of this age.

Must I go on? These are red flags and monster trucks horns people should have noticed.

And despite the above posts... Apple is one of the most successful tech companies in the world with 2+ Billion active and repeat customers who love purchasing Apple products. Year after year after year.

Sadly I think Tim Cook is more interested in the share price than the products.

His attitude is if this years product is crap don’t worry we’ll sell them a better product next year.

Nokia was in that position once. So was Blackberry. They both came crashing down with no warning.

Yeah... many people have been claiming the sky is falling for Apple for the last 20+ years.

Somehow they manage to limp along with its 2+ Billion active and repeat customer who love purchasing their products, making it one of the most successful tech companies in the world.

But it is. If Apple and Cook were doing such an awful job as a consumer tech company as claimed above, they wouldn't have 2+ Billion active and repeat customers.
Plenty of executives of very successful companies have made significant mistakes in their roles. Sometimes the companies can weather them sometimes they can’t. It also doesn’t mean that somebody else couldn’t do a better job.

And to be clear, I’m not suggesting Apple’s downfall is anywhere near. Though I do think Cook/Apple is doing a poor job with this.

Coincidentally, I was trying to do this with Siri and had to make many corrections

Guys, there was an article about a year ago or so, saying that Federighi played with chat GPT and found it interesting.

That was almost a year after GPT launched.

He is Apple SVP of software. This alone should explain it all.
While the world move on with AI chatbots of every kind at Apple they were probably thinking how to spin a good story about how they are offsetting their carbon emissions by planting 4 trees.
Or a story about privacy and human rights.

Pathetic at best…

What compensation will Apple provide to those of us who upgraded a serviceable older iPhone to gain this iOS 18 AI capability?

This delay seems like bait and switch.

No one was forced to buy anything plus the 15 Pro supported most of the features AI supposedly offered so it was never really a selling point EVER.

People just fell for marketing as far as I am concerned.
