I don't think having Tim Cook reviewing hardware and software designs is a good idea and it's a little too late the iPhone 17 is already in production it'll be the ugliest iPhone ever made

Looking at that photo, my first thoughts were, "Geezus...looks like a bureau design from the early days of the Soviet Union". :)

Even if he came up with the idea are you really suggesting no one else inside Apple — not Phil Schiller, Craig Federighi or any of the hardware chiefs — had the ability to say no bad idea? Also it was Schiller, on stage at WWDC, who when introducing this MacPro who had the infamous “can’t innovate my a**” line. That fall Jeff Williams narrated a video highlighting how the product was made. Obviously Apple made the wrong bet here but at the time they were proud of it and thought it was innovative.

A universal maxim relating to marketing: "you can only sell what you've got."

This is just Cook emulating Jobs. Cook is a Charlatan. Apple desperately needs to develop and lead in AI, and revamp its operating systems and software.

Microsoft is so far ahead it’s ridiculous. Take MS Teams for example. It completely destroys iMessage. I know iMessage is good as a focused consumer messaging App, but Apple needs to target business and consumers at the same time. This is what made iPhone 1 incredible: it served consumers and businesses all in one.

iWork online, for instance, is stuck in an over decade old JavaScript framework.

Apple needs to revamp both its current software and introduce new applications like a consumer database program again. Perhaps put out a search engine that is built on AI, with Apple Maps, Photos etc. fully functional online. Apple may also choose to screen every website in its search engine. Also pump out a YouTube competitor screening out all the junk. Etc. etc.

It's interesting that many commentators here seem to underestimate the monumental effort and risks involved in transitioning Apple's entire product line to its own silicon, especially while managing that transition during the pandemic and its associated supply chain disruptions. Regardless of whether Tim Cook is viewed as a product visionary, he was the right leader for that challenging period.

In summary, there seems to be a prevalent "what have you done for me lately" attitude in the comments.
Agreed. I really wonder what the armchair quarterbacks think should have been done better? Apple tried a number of things, some they terminated before they came to market, some were lackluster or predictors a bit ahead of their time, and others have been solid hits ... that's hardware, software, and services.

Buffet said that Tim Cook made more money for Berkshire Hathaway than Buffet himself ever had. Buffet also said a couple of years ago that Apple is the best run company in the world, bar none.

So to all the monday morning q-backs with their negativity, I say, Seriously?

Last time I checked, Apple was doing just fine, and Teams could also be run on an iPhone.

Right now, I am on the betas for everything...and I can deal with MOST bugs...and I 100% get that I am on the beta...but HomeKit bugs are such a no go...I have a really intricate HomeKit set up and every single time I update...my entire house goes into chaos. Haha.
So... maybe betas are not for you? You know you're not supposed to run them on your primary/production devices, right? Betas are there to help track down the bugs in a wider variety of test scenarios, and for devs to test new frameworks, not for people to get to play with all the kewl new shiny toyz.

Exactly. Someone said it. The fact that all the failures of the Mac Pro from 2013 and other Macs are put on him (Jony) alone, is plain insanity
People really forget the fact that Apple is really a collaborative company with engineers, designers, marketing etc.

> Apple's longtime senior vice president of Operations Sabih Khan will take over as Chief Operating Officer to continue overseeing Apple supply chains.

Can't they just name him President Of Operations? aw, I see...

Hankey actually righted the ship coming off Ives and the godly mess that was "flat design". iOS was steadily improving up to around 16 when it just hit a wall as Williams took over. 17 introduced more bugs than anything and 18 just piled on the mess. 26 hasn't done anything.

So I guess it's just all bad news now and this is the kind of software mess we are subject to.
Hankey was never in charge of software / UI design. That's Alan Dye's jurisdiction. Hankey was head of Industrial design

Bold statement. I have some data that paints a different picture. But you put yourself out there with this statement, so now you can back it up. Why is Apple "doing just fine".

I know I will sound like a broken record, but I would love it if they brought Scott Forstall back to the game.

Personally, I would also love to see someone new take over the design team...I know, contradictory to what I just said, but I am wanting something completly new. I also want an OS that really works. Right now, I am on the betas for everything...and I can deal with MOST bugs...and I 100% get that I am on the beta...but HomeKit bugs are such a no go...I have a really intricate HomeKit set up and every single time I update...my entire house goes into chaos. Let me guess, your lights randomly turn on and off quickly sometimes…

He should also work for 1$ like Steve Jobs

I'll wait and see before getting concerned.
Just because departments report to him does not mean he is micro managing them, I am sure there will still be lead designers etc.
Maybe it is because I am British, but I wont panic yet.😂

First, why is Tim Cook overseeing the design team? He knows better.

Second, I hope this can only means Cook is taking the Design lead seriously and taking his time to find a replacement….better yet, actually understanding what the job entails to find a good fit for Apple.

Good to know about this. Maybe there will be more personnel changes in the future. Don't think it will have any impact on the consumers.

I certainly do not hate on Ive, he did some great work. And I seem to have missed the threads where Ive has been hated or bullied.
Personally i think Ive did some great design work and really helped Apple develop its style. And sine then there have been many other great designs.

Equally I do not hate on Cook, or think he has done a bad job.
Do I think he will actually be doing design work, no. Do I think he will micromanage design team, no.
I am sure there will be design leads and and all sorts of collaboration the same as you see in any big company.

I am not sure why we have to turn our dislike for a given design/feature into hate for a person?
Sure sometimes there is a misstep, even the best make them, but do we have to hate?
