Apparently 5.6b does not buy you peace of mind, to be fair, I would eventually get tired of being compared to a lizard as well.

Find it in Fortnite

“A new way to discover what's happening in Fortnite.” sounds “creepy” and I don't think that should exist.

If feels like to me that the rhetorical technique that Tim Sweeney is using is the kind that the Republican party of today uses. A technique that twists the actual utility of something and make it seem that it is something that it isn’t. Find My cannot be used by Apple to track you, in the sense that your own Find My’s locations are not known by Apple. So if anything is creepy about your device locations being discovered by you and no one else, I don‘t know how that is creepy.

It seems that what Tim Sweeney is doing is really using this opportunity for some feud against Apple because he’s felt Apple has treated Epic unfairly. Whether Apple has treated Epic unfairly or not, Tim should not be using this as a way to get back at Apple, a very petty way to sow confusion and create chaos; a very Republican tactic. Ugly Tim.

Listen, I live in the Triangle here in North Carolina, where Tim Sweeney is the richest person in this region. He is known here as the "Dick of the Triangle". The only thing "super creepy" in this story is Sweeney.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney today commented on Apple's Find My service, referring to it as "super creepy surveillance tech" that "shouldn't exist."

Sweeney went on to explain that several years ago, "a kid" stole a Mac laptop out of his car. Years later, Sweeney was checking Find My, and as the Mac was still connected to his Apple ID account, it showed him the location where the thief lived.

Sweeney's take is curious, because providing the location of a lost or stolen device is exactly what the Find My service is meant to do. Apple devices remain tied to a user's account if not removed, a feature that is meant to thwart theft.

After confusion from his Twitter followers over his comments, Sweeney said that the location of a device in someone's possession can't be tracked without tracking the person, and "people have a right to privacy." He claims that detection and recovery of a lost or stolen device should be "mediated by due process of law" and not exposed to the device owner "in vigilante fashion."

When Sweeney saw how Find My worked, he said he turned off the feature on all of his devices.

While Apple's AirTag item trackers have been criticized for their use by stalkers, the Find My service has not been the target of similar complaints. Find My and Activation Lock have been important theft deterrents, cutting down on iPhone theft. Apple recently expanded Activation Lock to include iPhone components to prevent them from being disassembled for parts.

Sweeney is such a fraud.

Criminals absolutely DO NOT have ANY privacy rights. In this day and age where everything is tracked, stealing Apple products risks being caught/imprisoned by law enforcement because the owner will share your location, and at best, having a device which is bricked.

The only thing criminals can do is sell the device for parts, if the owner acts accordingly.

This dude is an idiot. Or just not familiar with how Apple's Find My works. I just find it laughable. If someone stole your expensive (many people say overpriced) MacBook, WHY WOULD YOU NOT WANT TO KNOW WHERE IT IS?!

i don’t remember the last time a headline from MR gave me a good, genuine cringe—thank you Juli 💜

Tim Sweeney, announcing to every thief and crackhead that its open season on any and all his devices. Not sure how he knows its a kid that stole it. I would think, all you would know is the location of your device. Unless he was doing some creepy things of his own.

The man is ungodly rich in part because he's managed to get a bunch of 12 year olds addicted to a game where you build forts, do little dances and shoot people... but sure, Find My is creepy.

Maybe he eventually went to the thief's house and took a sneak peak at his window in a creepy way, maybe alien way and found out it's a kid that stole his MacBook😂😂

Tim Sweeney: We thieves have a right to privacy!
You gotta keep in mind, Sweeney is in general completely out of touch. To him, a Mac or iPhone no matter the price really isn't that expensive. Meanwhile for him, getting caught doing something illegal, that would be really awful. You have to think back from what they're complaining about. Obviously, when you buy a used device you should ensure that you're able to turn off Find My. But Apple has ever reason to build anti-theft features into their devices. People around the time of the iPhone's launch were getting mugged and in some cases killed. Sweeny was very much alive when that was happening, but I doubt he bothered to read tech news or think about how things he doesn't like might affect normal people.

There's also an ableism angle. Find My helps people who are naturally forgetful, often due to learning disabilities. But if you're somebody like Sweeney who gives off cluster B personality disorder vibes for days, you don't care about how that sort of thing could benefit normal people.

My guess is that with his recent anti-Apple nonsense he's trying to cultivate a weird cult of personality the way that Trump and Musk have. Just was we need, more out-of-touch rich losers wanting to be worshiped.

I think he found the solution to the world’s biggest problem when it comes to retrieving stolen devices while respecting the privacy of thieves but it’s still under pending review for formalities and completeness by the patent process overview committee 😂🤣
And somehow a fine to Apple is being considered by the EU. Just for the hell of it

I wouldn't be surprised if he comes up with an update saying someone stole all his devices, TVs, cars and clothes 😂
He will blame Apple for it. 🤣
