Interesting theory. You sound like those Windows guys that argued to the teeth that A architecture (iPad, iPhobe) was a toy and could not cope with the demands of professional devices …. look at it now.
What sounds like is not reality.
The fact is both macOS and iOS are fundamentally a flavor of Unix. An architecture that has been tested by time in terms of security and performance. In fact it’s the most used system on the Internet backend serving the Planet. MacOS sandboxing is excellent.
But that still isn't the point that macos is a niche system.
Security is fundamentally entities control over their properties. In that context The App Store economies come with significant security threats also. The threat is just institutionalized in these systems … which is basically the worst kind of threat … a dystopian threat … when the App Store drivers flex …. It’s a catastrophe for the ones that depend on it … no one is safe. got like powers.
I love the use of the word "dystopian". It's a word that attempts to diminish a point that is valid.

Are you suggesting google is ford and oppo is the kid in garage building a go kart? You may believe oppo doesn’t compete with google and that’s your opinion.
When it comes to mobile OS’s? Yeah, the analogy is a good approximation. What’s Oppo’s mobile OS market share? Must be far less than 1% since Google and Apple have over 99% market share. Oppo must have some share of that 0.1% falling under ‘Unknown.’

But that still isn't the point that macos is a niche system.

I was not arguing against the fact that Windows is first and MacOS in the planet in terms of professional usage. That would be silly.

But against the inference you did: If MacOS was first and Windows second, Windows would be a more secure ecosystem and MacOS a less secure ecosystem.

Which was the conjecture to justify your iOS stance of not adopting the same kind of policies of macOS regarding App Store controls.

What you could say is that indeed the attack surface of such an ecosystem increases as more people would be using macOS. But that is not an indication of a less secure ecosystem as you conjectured … but it’s popularity.

Free market system at work. If people don’t like a product they don’t like a product. It seems you are favorable to any regulation of industries even when the people have voted with their $$$. I am not.

Free market system at work.

Interesting stance. Using free market virtuosities to justify a totalitarian one clinging on it to sustain it. Outlawing themselves if necessary. Hypocritical at best.

I guess there will be always people that trade their market principles for share value?

That’s fine, you’re free to feel however you want. I’m just glad to see some of these things trending toward my worldview. Large corporations have had too much power and control for too long.

I’m gobsmacked on how people won’t vote with their $$$, if they don’t like a companies practices. Don’t buy the damn product if you don’t like it.
Because what you describe is just choosing the lesser evil. And choosing the lesser evil is worse than forcing them to become better.

Libertarian no regulation on the market doesn’t work that great for consumers.
There’s a reason why EU have better consumer rights and privacy rights than USA, and that’s all from different approaches to the market

I guess people only have one finger and that’s why they can’t count above one?

Imo, there is no evil. However government thinks differently and as I said, like death and taxes this is on the way.

There are more than two choices as there are a myriad of smartphone makers, some developing their own operating systems. Mobile o/s are exactly a vibrant competitive market. Even if one strips Apple of all control over it's ecosystem, it will remain a very popular choice with people, (imo) despite the dozens of smartphone manufacturers and even though it's market share is dwarfed by Android.

Because antitrust and regulatory laws are needed, doesn't preclude from voting with one's wallet for mass produced consumer products made by for profit companies. It also, imo, doesn't mean that companies no matter what they produce should not be regulated to ensure what they produce will minimally not physically harm or injure people. But to me the line is drawn when government tells these companies their proprietary ip has to be interoperable. Voting with your $$$ is the best way to make companies see the light of day.
That’s the thing, they are being fined for how iOS. Not for how iPhones work. And we have two options iOS or android

We’ll there is tizen and one other manufacturer is developing an operating system (although I can’t recall who). So no, there isn’t two. There’s at least three, plus Linux plus one other. I know, I can hear it now. Free markets are a dead thing, eu regulates based on popularity.

But yeah government can regulate anything. But I don’t have to agree with it. Win some, lose some.

As you didn’t understand the metaphor.
Think it if a sandwich with sand(apple) in I and a different shop that also sell difrent sandwiches with difrent toppings, but they also have sand in it.

Voting with your money doesn’t work when the thing you want to change is the sand.

That’s when the government comes in and say you need to remove the sand

Free market haven’t existed for 100 years now. iOS and android(Linux) have 99% of the market. Android and google both have a dominating position and have Ben judged to abuse this position.

Eu doesn’t regulate based on popularity. The commission isn’t elected but employed and approved by parliament unanimously. It regulate based on perceived harms and evaluation of the market.

If every apple user would vote against their government or EU it would have zero impact unless they can get more than apple users to vote with them as this is a parliamentary proportional system. You can’t spoil the vote or vote tactically.

Does apple even do enough business in Denmark to justify these fines?

Would be hilarious if they just stopped formally operating in the country lol
Looking at the original article, I had thought the country involved was the Netherlands, some miles south of Denmark. Just a thought. all the best.

Funny tho when it comes to forcing iMessage and other messenger platforms to be interoperable is supported by 80% of iOS users likely. So apple is doing something wrong when consumers want change but can’t pick anything else. At last apple will be forced to hold to its original promise

Just a drop in the bucket for apple. They can use some of the billions they made by not including chargers to cover this.

There’s also a reason why ALL of the companies they want to pass this law for were created OUTSIDE the EU. Perhaps having EU level consumer rights and privacy rights = no companies like Apple.

Now, ask a new question.

“This could be implemented fairly soon using RTS. However, all of your messages would have to go through Google.” and see what happens once there’s even the barest understanding of the circumstances involved. The “unsure” group are at least aware that “this SOUNDS good, but what’s the catch?”

People wanting what’s impossible or impractical is nothing unique or special. If someone does a poll for something that’s possible, that they want to get an idea of if it would be financially worth doing, their poll would provide a valuable result. Kickstarter and Indiegogo depend on this kind of “polling”.

If someone does a poll for
“a mode of transportation that takes you safely from their home to <their favorite vacation spot> in less than 1 hour”,
“a strawberry tart with rat in it”
“a strawberry tart without so much rat in it”
and the majority choose the first, that doesn’t really say anything about the option, just that people like fantasies :)
