They clearly didn't learn anything from the Vision Pro flop... They are following the same footsteps:

1) Grab something gimmicky that other companies already do
2) Add a super premium price tag on it to make it look the future of tech
3) People realize that it is not worth the money
4) Damage control it by saying that it's the future of tech but we are not ready for it yet.
You just have to love posts from people who haven't even seen a product that will be released in 2 years but already know it's going to be a flop :D
Remember how phones had touch screens before the first iPhone?

As for AVP, all the reviews talked about how many revolutionary solutions it had, like eye or hand tracking. Apple never planned for it to be a widely sold product, so what kind of flop is it?

Welcome to the world of foldable phones:

PROS:
- they're new and cool
- you can unfold your phone and enjoy a iPad mini size screen
- did I say they're new and cool?

CONS:
- they're expensive (usually more expensive than a phone + tablet)
- they're less durable (more moving parts means more points of failure)

Personally, the cons clearly outweigh the pros, but I've been wrong before and will be wrong again.

(Heck, I might be wrong right now and I don't even know it.)

foldables have been on the market for years already......Apple is following the market...not innovating.
Just like smartphones had touch screens before the first iPhone, remember?

oh i remember....but to be honest here that was a different era for Apple. I hope I am wrong, but I don't see Apple bringing any wow factor to foldables that the current market isn't already doing. It will just be made by Apple and that might be enough for them.....

And her we have Apple still hunting the next trend of what was already introduced by the Pixel Fold and the Samsung Galaxy Fold et al.

I wish they rather follow the Galaxy Flip et al than make this big chunk of phone, though that are my personal preferences, but I guess huge premium price with large profit margins is more attractive for shareholders.

Chinese foldables are at least 6 generetions ahead of Apple. They are not that much more expensive than a regular pro max.
Apple is dead on the water on this.
Not 50 generations? 😂
You got it confused with games, it's not like that in technology that when someone starts they have to start from the first level and slowly move up to the next ones.

Agreed

Apple hasn't been doing any "wowing" of any kind recently.

The most "wow" thing of late has been the Mac Mini M4, and that's mainly a "wow" about the value it offers, not the actual design or performance or unique hardware or anything.

We were only "shocked" that we weren't getting more screwed by Apple on the base model pricing.

I'll buy it day 1, but it's a business device for me. Currently have to carry second device (ipad or macbook) with me everywhere for work. I need the extra screen space for productivity tasks.

Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it won't be there. I'm, on the other hand, convinced they'll make a foldable one that will have unique features. It won't be for everyone though, it'll be the highest in the iPhone hierarchy.

The only way I'll buy a foldable is if
  • the reliability is as good as the non-foldable
  • there is NO visible crease
  • the screen quality is equivalent
  • there is minimal cost increase vs. an equivalent size non-foldable

The Vision Pro of iPhone models? I’ll pass. I never got the appeal of foldable.
A bigger screen is about the only thing I can think of. I have a friend with a Galaxy Fold 6 and I have to admit that the bigger screen is nice. Other than that, it is way too bulky and heavy. And for those that like cases, so far she hasn't found one that works well and lasts more than a few months. They break way too easily.

In an investor research note today with British bank Barclays, analyst Tim Long said Apple's first foldable iPhone could have a starting price in the $2,300 range in the United States, which would make it by far the most expensive iPhone model ever.

If the first foldable iPhone starts at $2,299, that means it would cost nearly twice as much as the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which starts at $1,199.

Long shared this pricing estimate following a recent trip to Asia, where his team met with hardware manufacturers. He said there is increasing discussion within the supply chain about a foldable iPhone launching in late 2026 to early 2027, but he believes that the device's higher starting price would unsurprisingly limit sales volume.

Earlier this month, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the first foldable iPhone would be priced between $2,000 and $2,500, so multiple analysts agree that the device will cost at least a few thousand dollars. Kuo believes there could still be strong demand for the foldable iPhone despite its higher price, however, provided that the device's quality meets expectations. For example, Apple releasing a foldable smartphone without a visible crease in the screen would be a major breakthrough.

Kuo said the first foldable iPhone would feature a 7.8-inch inner display, a 5.5-inch outer display, two rear cameras, one front camera, a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID, and a high-density battery. He expects the device to be as thin as 4.5mm when unfolded, and between 9mm and 9.5mm when folded. He expects the device to have a titanium exterior, but the hinge would use a mix of titanium and stainless steel.

Kuo said the foldable iPhone would enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2026.

With the foldable iPhone at least a year and a half away, keep in mind that this pricing estimate is surely just an educated guess.

Apple continues to spin its wheels, praying to invent something new again. RIP Apple

We hope it'll be like the iPad introduction - launched at 50% less than the analyst estimated price.

Instead it'll be like the Apple Vision Pro - launched at 50% more than the analyst estimated price.

This will have to be really expensive as it has the potential of killing the iPad mini lineup, and maybe eat into the iPad lineup. If the price is cheaper for an iPhone fold vs an iPhone and an iPad, people might lean towards the phone for convenience. I know I would rather have 1 device that covered both my phone and iPad needs.
