so just like every other foldable...weird niche market that for some reason people are obsessed with
Because I want a device when folded is about the size of the current 16 PM in dimensions and thickness, but unfolds to a large tablet. I don't get why some hate this concept, I'm in the UK and it's surprising how many foldables I've seen in public, so they are quite popular.

And people believe this will outsell a mini iPhone?

Damn right it will, and I'd put money on that.

The hardware side is something analysts can investigate but what I’m really interested in is the software side. iOS and iPadOS split for obvious reasons but now both operating modes will be present in one device. Apple has to get that part right also.
Introducing FoldOS you’re going to love it.

I’ll keep an open mind, but my feeling is this will go the way of the dodo bird (Vision Pro). Maybe if it’s screen is massively better; not ghastly like those android phones with the very visible, obnoxious creases, it stands a chance (not at twice the price though with so many common components). Sounds absurd on it’s face.

It’s a no for me. Im not buying the 16e thats $500 something I certainly wont be buying a phone $2,000. Apple has become a joke. I predict they will go bankrupt or wont be around much longer if they keep this up. Look at what theyve gotten themselves into with the AI feature and siri issue.
Didn’t they make like 200 billion last year, setting an all-time record?

It is really depressing how much everyone is negative, just contant complaining. No one gets excited about anything anymore.

for what purpose though? what are you doing with the larger weird aspect ratio screen? For example, I like my phone cus I can use it with one hand. I barely touch my iPad except to watch tv at the dinner table

As someone who is content with my 2nd Gen SE this is clearly a product that is not aimed at me.

It’s peak iPhone if you ask me. Whatever they’re releasing, if their software isn’t top notch, who wants to pay a premium price for something that’s years behind in software and technology specifications 🤔

Reading or editing documents like PDFs or even looking at pictures. On an iPhone, pictures on websites are hardly larger than a thumbnail and reading documents means constant zooming and scrolling. Or if you turn the phone sideways to edit a doc, you have a keyboard that takes up half the screen and a tiny sliver of the content.

No they won't. Because their competition is Android.

I'd love for Apple to have some real competition...

Wow, those analysts really going out on a limb there, speculating the price will be around the same as other foldable! Count me blessed for having them read the tea leaves for me!

Even Chinese foldables cost about the same, so I didn’t find it outrageous. Dare I say, it’s quite reasonable in Appleland pricing.

BUT

$2000+ for a phone! When did we normalise this?

Why not … I can see the logic of it … « Tim how much shall we price it ? … Well guys two screens is like two phones right ? So twice as much as our best phone because this one is now the best and our customers want the best right ? Should we charge as much as a Vision Pro ? Or a gold awatch ? … »

I don’t think anybody thought amfoldabke iPhone was going to be cheap. Even Samsung’s are expensive right?

respectfully, they make hundreds of billions of dollars. if the foldable flops they just won’t do it again and will go back to focusing on regular slab phones like they have been. thinking that they will go bankrupt or somehow cease to exist is just simply 100% wrong.

They’re starting to look a lot like Blackberry, aren’t they?

No they won't. Because their competition is Android.

I'd love for Apple to have some real competition...
Apple is having real competition. Some are somehow reluctant to see it.

Competitors copied and improved Apples iOS functions and ecosystems for years now. They’re offering 120hz refresh rates of screens as a standard. Offer enough RAM to be futureproof with system updates for years to come. Have real working smart assistants and do offer AI-related things Apple was only talking about and was postponed till 2026-27.

Apple only success is their uber loyal faithful who don’t care.

I may purchase one, especially if it comes with pencil support and a keyboard accessory. This would be perfect for travel and making presentations.
