Still use mine... Hands down best laptop I’ve ever had, still using mine no problems. created ton of content and had so much fun with it!
Mine still looks brand new so very reluctant to get rid of it because the new ones still have issues and the butterfly keyboard killed any chance of me upgrading for years!

id miss my MagSafe and the illuminated logo call it gimmicky but it looked stand out from everything else!

I'm already preparing for my mid 2014 MBP to be listed as obsolete in the near future and budgeting for a new MBP. Not sure what will be available in 2021 but looking at the 16 inch to get an actual GPU for video editing.

I still have my MBP 2010. Still running strong and fast. SSD, maxed memory, and new battery.

I'm curious as to why this announcement would indicate that is time to retire your MBP.
Coincidence that's all. My daughter running some apps that are not too intensive but the 2012 MBP is laggy and having issues. She was complaining about it this weekend, and this morning I see this.

Unless your doing CPU/GPU intensive work or need HEVC decoding. There is pribbaly not reason to retire
As I mentioned above, to nicho, my daughter is incurring some significant performance issues.

Still use mine as a daily workhorse. Knew this was a day coming and will likely be upgrading this summer depending on the new macOS requirements. Granted I’m not too hopeful, hardly any new features from Catalina made it the old 2012 rmbp (or anything pre-2016 really).

a truly fabulous machine. Was able to put in a 960GB Transcend drive without issue. Next one will be maxed out, hopefully go for another 8 years.

Has really been great, now an architecture student being able to run autocad natively and revitalize with boot camp or virtualization, current revolt and enscape has really shown its limits. Other than that a great machine even today.

Looks like its time to retire my 2012 MBP, it had a good run.

This was the best MBP Apple ever produced imo

Although they look physically similar I'd say the 2015 15" model was the best one. It had the force touch trackpad that the 2016 models also had which was really nice and of course better specs than the 2012 15" which generally makes it better in the same physical design.

The 2019 16" MacBook Pro is I think second best to the 2015 model and it would be superior if it had proper function keys and a more responsive (pixel time wise) display.

Though I do have to say the speakers on the 16" are pretty incredible so I might sacrifice function keys for sound putting it and the 2015 15" MBP even closer together.

This was my first MacBook and I got this on launch while I worked at Apple. Such an amazing device that sucked me into the whole Apple Ecosystem. Sure ghosting was an issue, but this Mac was freaking awesome :p

A testament to the fact that it's never a good investment buying any of their higher spec models.

A testament to the fact that their so called environmental friendliness is utter BS. To the landfill it all goes in a few short years

You could easily sell it used for a few hundred bucks today, even though it is 8 years old. Why the misleading post about it going to a landfill after “a few short years”?

I still have my late 2011 MacBook pro. I upgraded to 16gb of Ram, installed a new SSD drive and new battery. Still chugging along!

So, it begins.

Reading this made me hug my 13" MacBook Pro Early 2015 and whispering to it how much I love it. It's been serving me well for over 5 years, with the screen and battery replaced recently, and given the recent messy developments in the MacBook Pro 13" arena, I think I'm gonna hold on to it till the very end of the support cycle.

Picked up one of these same machines used on eBay a couple years ago, for around $500. It's a bit heavy for my needs, but it's really a home run in every other respect.

You know the new 16" rMBP has the magic keyboard, right?

I returned mine because of problematic touchbar and the trackpad was too big for me. I'm stilling using my '12 rMBP but battery life kinda sucks and the screen has a few coating issue. Not sure if it is worth 200$ to replace the battery and I now have a thinkpad with Pop!_OS to try to see if I can live without macOS. I've been very disappointed by Catalina issues.

Apple needs to step up big time at WWDC, macOS needs to be a serious focus for them.

Sad but not unexpected. Love my 2012 and it's just the base model. Only ever had 1 issue with it all these years and it just keeps on chugging. The 16" has my eye but just can't justify retiring the 2012 just yet

Erm what the hell are you talking about?

If you got the higher specs the machine will still be perfectly adequate for most tasks even today.

Apple will be more than happy to recycle it for you, no need to go to landfill. Even if there wasn't that option why would it going out of support stop you from using it if it still works? I've got one from release day, ok it was replaced as my main machine in 2016 but it still gets used, not likely to go to landfill or recycle for some time.

What other computer do you use from 8 years ago? Here's a hint, if you have replaced all the components it isn't the same computer anymore.

My top of the line, late 2009 iMac begs to differ. It doesn't run the latest macOS because of the GPU, but it is still an awesome machine in part thanks to the first gen i7 CPU and does most everything I ask it to (mostly photo editing) with ease.

Ohh yes I do I got so excited they finally moved from the buttercrap keyboard, but then piled up the other faults like screen smearing etc. it’s a bit hard to swallow at £2300 for a base model £400 for AppleCare when my 2012 was £900 and £280 for AppleCare back in 2013!

I think Apple products are to high in price now for the problems and bugs they have, still love the look of them but they are hard to justify buying now especially the iPhone.
