Correct, yet the ginger haired chap, as well as Churchill is revered which means fu*% Off. There is no such thing as a "peace sign" pose other than a white flag

Tell that to the 100,000 hippies in Woodstock

I get so sick of the BS about surface level diversity. No one has any knowledge about the applicant pool from which these employees were selected (other than the fact that in Taiwan there are a lot of Chinese people).
When good managers hire, they look for who has the best ability and experience for the job.
However, they have to look at who applies.
If no women apply, am I a sexist because I didn't hire a women?
And if 50% of the applicants were women and 0% were qualified so I didn't hire them, am I also sexist?
The answer to both of those is no.
If I hire a women who is less qualified than a man that I don't hire am I sexist? YES.

I think you get the right picture there. If the applicant pool is homogeneous, then therei is nothing the shop can do on diversity. This is the situation in Taiwan. The population in Taiwan is very homogeneous. Foreigners need special working visa in order to work in Taiwan. Jobs in retail stores aren't qualified for those work visa. (And I believe this is the case in the US too. The difference is that US citizens are not that homogeneous.) So you pretty much can only see local people working there. There is nothing the shop can do when only local people (can) apply for the job.

Yep. And not only that, people are surprised when an entry level job only has young people working there. Well who do they think are willing to take jobs that pay low wages? Some guy with a family to provide for and an advanced degree?

If you see a 50 year-old working at any Apple store, there has got to be a sad story behind it.

What is Asian culture?

I tell you, Asia is vast, i have travelled through most countries in Asia, lived there for over a decade and I can tell you it's diverse, there is no such thing as Asian culture.

Example, Thailand is completely different from it's southern neighbour Malaysia and Malaysia is completely different than Singapore (Although they would like to be like them).

But I do think there is some similarity in between cities/states/countries with a majority of "Chinese" people, for instance Singapore, HongKong, Taiwan and China.

Fair enough. I used a generalization much like the term "Western Culture" is used. My comments were reflective of Taiwanese culture specifically. I've also lived and travelled in ALL of the major asian centres, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, China, Thailand, Japan, you name it. And while there is no such thing as an "Asian culture", there is certainly more in common than not and many of the traits are similar: focus on the collective, not the individual, cultures of saving face, showing respect (at least superficially), avoidance of confrontation, and so on. Of course there are regional differences, just as there are in the west.

But no need to be pedantic, i think most people realize a generalization by definition has its limitations. The thread isn't really the place for an in-depth discussion of thousands of years of Far-East history! :)

I always have to laugh at my Taiwanese classmates who pose for school pictures or in this case, flashing the Peace sign backwards, not realizing it means "f--- you." Or maybe they do...haha.
I think it only means that in the UK or something. At least not in the US.
