I would have preferred LOR based names:

OS X Lothlorien
OS X Rivendell
OS X Gondor
OS X Mordor (well, maybe we should leave that one for the Redmond folks....)

From Yosemite to Mount Whitney on the John Muir trail are plenty of other places which OS's could be named after. I guess Apple employees don't get too far from the tarmac.

Half Dome
Cloud's Rest
Donohue Pass
Purple Lake
Tully's Hole
Bear Ridge
Evolution Valley
Golden Staircase
Taboose Pass
Kearsarge Pass
Mount Whitney

version numbers

It might help those who have trouble with understanding version numbering to pronounce the full-stop/period as "dot" rather than "point": "ten dot nine dot three". Or not.

I really hate the arrogant California ego-centrism.
Queue the song 'Take California' from the Propellerheads.

Don't worry, that whole chunk of coastal California is going to fall off into the ocean when the big one hits...you couldn't pay me to live there!

Except perhaps when trying to find anything related to "OSX" + "Diablo" you'll get a heavy mix of results related to Diablo the game and Diablo the OS running on a Mac.

I think lawyers just trademarked these so they have them if they want to use them. There's no way the marketing department approved Mammoth. There's no way they want you thinking "giant" and "extinct" about one of their products.

I've never referred to an OS X release by name, but these names all suck spectacularly. I still think 'Mavericks' is the absolute nadir, though. Unbeatably awful.
