Apple's Global Security Chief Indicted in Scheme to Trade iPads for Gun Permits, but Apple Says It's Found No Wrongdoing

Ahh Leftist. Guns are bad for you, but not for us.
At least they did not aim at having everyone at Apple holding a gun like all the rednecks do.
And the usa are wondering how they lost their cultural leading role in the world.
Because of all the weapon lobbying while your children die in mass shootings and gang wars unheard of on any other western country.
Many people don’t even see you as a civilized country anymore.
Don’t get me wrong I like the usa for many things in the last centuries, but it’s like nobody is taking you seriously these days.

Lower crime rates in general too. And restricted speech. Go live there if you prefer it and aren't there already.
Oh, also much lower immigration rate, so maybe you're not able to.
Restricted speech? What are you talking about?
Please don’t feed the rumors that is citizens know sh... about any foreign countries.

Something tells me you’re going to be apoplectic over President Trump’s second term.
Nah, he won’t run again. His ego couldn’t take losing twice to Biden. 🤷‍♂️

Likely there will be 30-40 Republicans during the primary vying for that opportunity. Trump might even be able to get the nomination, should he be willing to run against Biden again.

But I think it’s a moot point, because there’s a nice warm spot in a number of state penitentiaries that have first dibs on his time.

Edit: a fake presidential run to put a few hundred million in his family’s pocket is almost guaranteed to be his next grift. But it’ll just be a scam.

He’s gotten a taste of real money and he likes it. Being a “billionaire” with a negative net worth isn’t nearly so fun as actually having cash to spend.

It would be sweet him being a two-time loser against Biden though 🤣

Very sketchy indeed.

But the most important point: Why the hell does Apple security team need to carry concealed weapons? I can see no reason for this and all these permits should be denied.

According to who? I see Germany, USA, UK all around the same percentage.

Oops, meant immigration from outside Europe, and I mean the EU. A lot of their immigrants are from within the EU.

2010 data on this (misleading URL) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_Europe#2006_data says that 6.3% of the EU population was born outside an EU state. 2015 data from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_the_United_States says 14.4% of the US population was born outside the US. Not clear on whether the UK is included in the EU stats.

When you’re protecting high profile folks who constantly receive death threats, concealed carry is appropriate.

The difference between the two being that with bribery, you're requesting something illegal, and with extortion, you're requesting something that's legal...
@cmaier Counselor, care to weigh in? :)
IDK - I think in all my corporate compliance lectures, it all fell under bribery.
Lots we do not know about this story, but what makes it interesting to me is that it does not seem it was money/goods given to an individual, but rather given to the department. Given that the Cupertino City Council tried to “encourage” Apple to install free WiFi and/or various other things, I am not sure where the line between legitimate horse trading and bribery falls.
There may be details being left out that change it from extortion to bribery, IE, maybe there's a long waiting list, so they decided to try (illegally) expediting the process by offering iPads.
This is certainly possible (that we do not know all the details).

it took me reading your comment several times to figure that out.

You must have just pulled that out of your head. That’s not the difference between bribery and extortion at all.

Anyway, according to what I read, the permits were issued in January 2019, while the iPad agreement happened in February 2019 and I’ve never seen anything about why the iPads, which were supposedly a quid pro quo, were never delivered.

If the iPads had been handed over in January and the permits issued in February, this would be a very different case.

In any event, there has been funny business for years with the sheriff’s office re: CCW permits. It stinks to high heaven, and Sheriff Laurie Smith is a crook imo.

If she had any moral decency or even an ounce of self respect, she would have resigned after invoking her fifth amendment right to remain silent so as not to incriminate herself, when she refused to testify about this matter to the grand jury.

Maybe if California didn’t make it next to impossible to lawfully defend yourself, none of this would even be a conversation.

This is why I never moved to California. This. Not just the gun laws, but the impracticality of basically everything being illegal.

Basically everything being illegal? You have an interesting view of one of the most liberal states in the US.

Fun fact: Conservative hero Ronald Reagan (as Governor) and his fellow Republicans are wholly responsible for making open carry illegal. Yay Republican gun control nuts—they actually did something right!

But of course for the wrong reason. They saw a couple dozen Black Panthers open carry at the Capitol and proceeded to freak the frack out.

Typical one-dimensional, politician-think: scary Black people openly carrying guns? No problem, we’ll just outlaw open carry. We is smart, let’s all pat ourselves on the back for another good day’s work put in at the Capitol.

What could possibly go wrong (for them)? Only the beginning of the end of California’s rather liberal gun laws. Thanks Reagan!

PS lots of good info at the link below for those that are interested in California’s gun laws. Caution: actual facts are depicted. Trigger warning for those who prefer to read and parrot propaganda.
