I don't understand---are you saying if there were more black executives running Apple this ad would not have been posted?

Is that because black people understand the music and lyrics so much better? Pretty stereotypical of you to suggest.

A lot of younger white people (including me) could tell the ad contained dodgy lyrics. The point is Apple wants to look hip, with it, cool, whatever, and marketing made what it, in my opinion, a boo-boo.

It's....not.....all....about.....race.

That's a funny post ... really.

We're talking about the WORD: N*GGA in a song and you're ready to challenge me on whether or not Black people will understand the lyrics better or not? Really?

I guess that's the part of my post you missed ... stereotypical ... if you watched the movie I stated all open mindedly from beginning to end you'd get just how silly your post really sounds right about now and how stupid of Apple to have posted the video in the very first place without truly listening to the song and how it would represent the company as a whole. You've basically stated and pretty much proved my point.

Some people are always trying to ice skate uphill. This is more than just simply pop-culture slinging lyrics here.

I'm not stating Apple should have more blacks represented in their executive staff I stated more people from ANY race. Please go and re-read my post before changin the meaning of my words. When the news of Boz being ousted/leaving Apple the thread right here on Mac rumors really featured many members veiled hatred just for trying out a different representation of a person, a woman, and culture and love of music high up in Apple. What I'm saying is somewhere, somehow in Apple's staff somebody didn't pickup on the lyrics and the words meanings at all and just thought "hey this track is cool" and all agreed that was part of the video and it got released. Then either someone wrote in, called in, or maybe even it was Eddie that said WTF who are the morons that didn't think this through?! We'll never know.

I don’t even use Animoji. But there is something about these ads that are hypnotic. I keep watching them over and over for some reason, lol!

I don't get animoji. They seem so fake and expressionless. If you see them for the first time you wouldn't expect there's this whole amazing true depth and face ID technology behind it, no?

Anyway, I didnt' received one yet, I must not have rich friends ;-)

Besides, I live in Europe where iMessage is not that big. We use it as a replacement for SMS and that's about it. Nobody cares if you're a green or blue bubble, and most chats happen in WhatsApp which is cross-platform. I guess i don't understand why people feel locked into the iPhone ecosystem because of iMessage either. And animoji will definitely not change this.

I just left a sports bar. For the past hour rap music was blasting away. As I was leaving there was a song about an anaconda. I said “What’s that all about?” My husband explained the dude wasn’t singing about an exotic pet. I really wish my husband had just shrugged and said he didn’t know.

Oh well when you think about it, Queen got away with a lot in the song “Fat Bottomed Girls”. And if “Bicycle Race” isn’t really about riding bikes, I don’t want to know. I have made it this far in life not knowing, I’ll do fine if I never know what the heck that song is about.

@DeepIn2U I totally didn’t catch those words in the ads. I was so distracted by the Animoji and I tend to tune lyrics out a lot of the time anyway. Whoa, that’s really bad. But I wonder how many people listening only casually caught it.

I get what you’re saying and I agree. I’ll leave it there because I’m tired and don’t feel like explaining myself. Good night and have a great weekend.

Smart move by Apple. yuh, dat way

Culture II was trash btw

Yeah that "wonderful" and "pure" lounge scene of 1950s.... uhmmm...,. "pure" rock scene of the late 1960s... oh or to the wonderful pure crap rock of the 1970s... hum.... or the pure college scene of the 1980s... hum... oh.... the pure (right) rave scene of the 1990s.... ahem....

You could go back or go forwards as far as you want, there is no non trash culture anywhere, culture is 95% garbage and 4% OK and 1% good to great in every single time period (with small variations around that average).

People may quibble about what part of the 4% gets into the 1%, but that's it.

Anyone who has actually read a lot more than superficially about any time period would know that's true.

Maybe I'm dense but all I see is a low budget looking animated video. Like a slow tween made it on their parents iPad with a $1.99 app and chose some popular r&b. I do like the music but... "she got an onion that make the world cry" #metoo apple, me too.

Migos are absolute garbage and don’t deserve to be promoted by anyone. Pay a little more and get Kendrick, Apple.

guess you should get cracking on your Ipad and do a clone of this then and post it on Youtube just to show how easy it is, lets, go, time is a moving...

20 years from now they'll be talking about this like they talk about the "Think Different" campaign.
Then these fluffy pups will compete with Tinky Winky for our attention at the exclusive Apple TV channel

It is a shame that Apple has come to this. Yes, I fully realise that the almighty dollar drives all decisions these days but surely massive profits can also be generated by intelligent marketing campaigns aimed at intelligent consumers. I suppose the horse has already left the paddock as I should be criticising the decision to create and use the animojis in the first place, not the decision to use them to sell an overpriced oversized phone.

Part of my dismay is probably down to age (I am 58) but I suspect and (certainly hope) that there are a good number of younger Apple customers who find the company's direction and focus these days disappointing and a real indication of the dumbing down of society.

I have used Apple computers since 1998 and currently enjoy my 2013 MacBook Pro and SE phone. Like others, I will have some real decisions to make once these tools need replacing. I know I am not alone in feeling that Apple pricing has got way out of hand and in some cases, the additional expenditure results in ownership of a lesser product than in the past.

I look forward to hearing the views of others.

So before we head down the rabbit hole of “white vs. black” or “who knows what’s good music and what’s not (because, preference)” or “oh, God what are Millennials doing” let’s stop and think what the issue might’ve actually been: Migos just released their album and, via Apple Music and iTunes, there is ONLY an explicit version. While still somewhat inexcusable (I wasn’t offended) it seems like the ad team didn’t have much to work with. Sure, they could’ve censored the words themselves but I’m willing to chalk it up as a tight deadline and the team overlooked a simple error that was swiftly corrected. I’m also sure the average person probably hasn’t even seen the updated ad, let alone knew about the explicit one. No harm, no foul imo.

As someone mentioned earlier about “culture periods” (though the OP was actually just referring to the Migos album’s title: Culture II), times change and with them, the audience. This was literally just a fun ad, more than likely directed to a specific audience (Millennials and younger), to highlight the upcoming awards show on Sunday that, in itself, will have a crap ton of these same viewers.

My best advice for Baby Boomers is to not freak out lol! Apple is simply moving the scale, as all businesses do/are doing, for the next generation. Think of it this way: Boomers are (probably) the ones with the most company stock so while they may not understand what the heck is going on, they’re also reaping huge rewards for it (I’m assuming). So relax lol, Apple is doing great and it looks like there won’t be any stopping them any time soon.

And if you’re confused, just ask your local Millennial what the heck is going on and I’m sure they wouldn’t mind explaining. I promise we don’t bite We ALL benefit from dialogue on both sides.

Not every feature has to appeal to everyone. I’ve barely used Animoji since getting my iPhone X but it’s very very obvious to me that this is an incredible exclusive feature that will appeal to younger generations who live for this stuff. It’s a huge advantage over Android right now and until Samsung can replicate it — which they will.

To take advantage of this while they have an exclusive, Apple does need to get Animoji on cheaper iPhones this year. Most kids can’t afford a $1000 iPhone. If Apple really wants this to blow up, TrueDepth will need to be on all new iPhones later this year.

The emergence of Animoji Karaoke really was an incredible gift to Apple’s marketing team. A completely organic viral phenomena that can be packaged neatly into an ad campaign. The problem is that it hasn’t persisted because it’s limited to iPhone X’s.

You somehow must have missed Teletubbies.

I feel such a duck after being served this that I was to hop over to the other camp.
Only the idea of DroidiMoji to appear soon there has saved me.
