It is a shame that Apple has come to this. Yes, I fully realise that the almighty dollar drives all decisions these days but surely massive profits can also be generated by intelligent marketing campaigns aimed at intelligent consumers. I suppose the horse has already left the paddock as I should be criticising the decision to create and use the animojis in the first place, not the decision to use them to sell an overpriced oversized phone.

Part of my dismay is probably down to age (I am 58) but I suspect and (certainly hope) that there are a good number of younger Apple customers who find the company's direction and focus these days disappointing and a real indication of the dumbing down of society.

I have used Apple computers since 1998 and currently enjoy my 2013 MacBook Pro and SE phone. Like others, I will have some real decisions to make once these tools need replacing. I know I am not alone in feeling that Apple pricing has got way out of hand and in some cases, the additional expenditure results in ownership of a lesser product than in the past.

I look forward to hearing the views of others.
I thought these ads were amusing but then other members here pointed out that there were offensive words in the songs and some of the regular words used actually reference drugs so I do have a problem with that.

I don’t have a problem with Animoji karaoke itself, nor rap as an art form as I’ve heard some rap with positive messages. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was in a sports bar last night. They used to play all kinds of music but last night it was hours of rap. It’s everywhere. It’s the current music that is popular with this generation so I can see why Apple would make these ads but they do need someone who knows the music and can sift out anything at odds with Apple’s image. Otherwise it’s point and laugh time for the very audience they’re trying to appeal to.

There is a problem though, with all of this, and that’s what @ipedro pointed out. The market to whom this campaign would appeal the most is generally too young to afford the only phones capable of offering Animoji.

Their throttled phones show a near-stationary form - Emoji.
Doomed to be a lost generation.

Lol. Oh goodness it’s going to take Apple a long time to live down the “throttle-gate” thing. I see references to it everywhere.

Not a long time, the passive aggressive so called Apple user (I don't think 10% actually own anything Apple) constantly using these quasi meme thing will soon get tired with it and move on when the next "gate" (sic) occurs. They are trolls with ADHD level of attention.

I love that Amigos ad! lol at the faces they're making. Not sure where all the hate is coming from- just ads people!

Apple's Animoji are starring in two new ads Apple created for the Grammys, with Apple using the popular Animoji karaoke phenomenon to promote the iPhone X.

The ads, shared by Apple on YouTube, feature the alien Animoji singing "Redbone" by Childish Gambino and the Animoji dog, fox, and poop singing "Stir Fry" from Migos. Other Animoji characters and emoji also make appearances in the two videos.

Animoji are 3D emoji characters that are designed to mimic your facial expressions and emotions using the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone X. Shortly after the iPhone X launched, people discovered that you could use Animoji to record yourself lip syncing to a song and then overlay the original music, leading to the birth of Animoji karaoke.

Animoji karaoke is not as popular as it was following the debut of the iPhone X, but Apple has previously featured Animoji karaoke in iPhone X ads.

You can watch the two new Animoji ad spots on YouTube, or catch them during the Grammys on January 28. The "Alien" ad will air following Childish Gambino's performance, while the "Amigos" ad will air right after the Best Rap Album category, which Migos is nominated for, according to Adweek.

Except Animoji s are like 15 fps

More alarming to see Apple VP's persistent enjoyment of infantile Animoji fluff

Yeah that "wonderful" and "pure" lounge scene of 1950s.... uhmmm...,. "pure" rock scene of the late 1960s... oh or to the wonderful pure crap rock of the 1970s... hum.... or the pure college scene of the 1980s... hum... oh.... the pure (right) rave scene of the 1990s.... ahem....

You could go back or go forwards as far as you want, there is no non trash culture anywhere, culture is 95% garbage and 4% OK and 1% good to great in every single time period (with small variations around that average).

People may quibble about what part of the 4% gets into the 1%, but that's it.

Anyone who has actually read a lot more than superficially about any time period would know that's true.

I have no idea what this means sorry haha. I wasn't talking about 'culture' as a concept, I was referring to Culture II the album, it was a trash album.

I don’t know. We still have the exploding Samsung jokes popping up. It’s going to be a thing for awhile.

According to the rumors it looks like all of the 2018 IPhones will be able to do Animoji. In addition to karaoke performances, I’ve seen Animoji also acting out movie trailers. I think we had better all get used to Animoji craziness.

It will get a lot weirder when Face ID is able to get even more points and it can in fact, animate A PERSON in real time, that will be a lot more creepy for sure. And yeah, like everything weird, it will happen.

what BS is this? Can't they just build decent hardware & software which doesn't suck... is affordable... and again "simply works". I guess not, it's Apple.

If that doesn't make you smile, you are dead inside

Stupidity never makes me smile... just shaking head....

The turd emoji in, “Stir Fry,” is perfect and appropriate in every conceivable way. Barf.

It reminds me of the quote from a character in the episode, “First Contact,” in Star Trek: TNG...

TROI: One of the things we monitor are your broadcast signals, your journalism, your music, your humour. Try to better understand you as a people.

MARISTA: I hate to think how you would judge us based on our popular music and entertainment.

Migos and most hip hop is entertainment, nothing more. When you see it from that perspective you will enjoy it.

This isn't radiohead.

Maybe do a comment that doesn't suck first.

I love these. I’d like to see the professional editing and animation they used on these productions become available on the phone as well!

No "probably" to it.

Face Profiles are stored in the Secure Enclave locally on the phone, period.

My original post (now amended) was more aimed at the fearures that could be profiled by actively monitoring a person's face during interactions with the phone's apps eg animoji. That's not part of the secure enclave.
