With the billions of dollars at Apple's disposal for R&D, I wouldn't be surprised if they are working towards a major update to Siri that incorporates their own NLP AI tech into Siri. It could be trained on Swift and other relevant languages.

I'll hope right with you. But this would be from a company whose core OSs are increasingly buggy and people seem to be taking the "wait for the .4 or .5 update" more seriously than ever.

I recall some scenes in Star Trek where someone could verbally command the starship's computer to create a program. And the Enterprise computer seemed VERY smart relative to Siri.

If Siri 2.0 can code well, transporters, warp drive and holodecks must be right on its heels.

Siri... I want to design a carousel of cards that present my favorite films of Apple TV+ and I want it to be in dark mode.

"One sec... Workin on it... Sorry, didn't quite catch that."

Siri... I want to design a screen that shows my favorite films...

"One sec... Workin on it... Sorry, didn't quite catch that."

SIRI... JUST DISPLAY MY FAVORITE FILM.

"One sec... Workin on it... Sorry, didn't quite catch that."

OK... SIRI. JUST TURN OFF THE TV IN THE LIVING ROOM.

"Okay. Living room lights are off."

This is my exact experience with Siri on Apple TV. I purchased shows from iTunes. I ask to watch those shows. Just doesn't work no matter what I say. About all it can handle is TV off/on. Also it's decent at dictating into a search field.

Meanwhile my Android using friend made a subtly big deal about sitting down to his Fire Cube and saying turn on the tv, turn on youtube tv, turn it to this channel, and it all worked instantly.

Siri is the reason the holodeck kept going crazy and trying to kill everyone.

I would use a Siri holodeck before I'd get in a Siri driven car, though.

"...and customers would be able to distribute the AR apps they create on the App Store alongside developers."

Is this a whack at AppStore fees complainers? I bet customers won't be complaining about Apple's AppStore fees!

It's all fun and games until Siri runs into a compiler error.

Sounds like it won’t be compiling anything.

It will be like HyperCard or AppleScript.

If this rumor is real at all.

I’m fully expecting the next rumor to say ‘Kuo says insiders told him that Apple has resolved the discomfort problem and the headset will weigh 13 micrograms and made out of ultra lightweight recycled moondust.’

This feels like someone heard a rumour and misunderstood it. Like when the iPhone 14 Pro camera cutout was said to have notification indicators in it, and it turned out it was the dynamic island. Or when the Watch S7 was meant to have a flat screen, and it turned out it was an early rumour for the AW Ultra.

This feels more like it'd be a mini sandbox style enviroment where can be like "Hey Siri, add a chair" and it'll drop in objects. Creating entire apps through voice is fantasy. We still can't even do that well with codeless drop n drag systems, never mind trying to explain an app to a voice assistant that struggles with timers.
Agreed. Surely this must be the means that a user can share their “reality” experience with others. This would be the technical means of how a user could collaborate or have the “social experience” that’s been rumored. I’m imagining it being an App Clip type experience- shared code rendering different perspectives based on other users relative positions to one another.

What in the ChatGPT? Sounds cool but I’m gonna go out on a limb and claim, Siri will never be able to pull it off. Looking at the speed of improvements since the launch of Siri, realistically it will take at least 200 more years, which is not gonna happen.
This rumor is obviously false or some was lost in translation. Siri could easily throw a variety of assets into an app pulled from a user's database or the internet. Creating an entire app and then publishing it to the App Store all from Siri will never happen because even Apple doesn't want that.

Apple's Headset Will Reportedly Let Customers Create AR Apps via Siri

Good joke, is Apple testing out their comedy writer for a new AppleTV show?

--"Hey Siri, give me directions home"

-- Would you like to search the web for "give me directions home"

I don't even remember the last time Siri has worked properly except for setting countdown timers.

Excellent news - looking forward to Apple's release!

It's a shame so many here apparently don't know (or refuse to learn) about AR and its potential in consumer and commercial markets.
You should tell us your thoughts on that, if you don’t mind and are willing to tune out the inevitable scoffers.

I can’t personally see it myself, because this is one area where I honestly am a bit wary of negative implications (probably because of Meta’s take on AR and VR, as well as some dystopian representations of AR and VR dominated futures).

But I am open to the more positive possibilities and interested in what you think. I try not to dismiss anything out of hand where Apple is concerned. So many people scoffed at the Apple Watch in its early days, but I find it an important part of my tools to manage connectivity, health and fitness, and even navigation. And now I see Apple Watches pretty much everywhere, as well as other smart watches.

And I did enjoy VR even in its very early and clumsy implementation from Samsung a few years ago. (Edited to correct AR to VR)

I’m still trying to understand what the point of this is and who it’s for (besides tech nerds who have ADD and get bored easily).

People said the same thing about the iPhone when it came out! When it first came out the iPhone was too expensive and it was for tech nerds who had ADD that got bored easily! And people thought all they needed was their Motorola RAZR flip phone with a 5 line screen.

Is there anyone excited about this VR headset thing?

I think AR is a more compelling use case! Project or Augment what already exists in the real world. Like looking at your refrigerator and it tells you how many eggs you have left or if you need to buy eggs and then having it add the eggs to your list or instead just buying them for you and having them delivered.

do you honestly think apple's VR is gonna be the same leap from current sets like the smatphones were from the razor? do you also think the use case is comparable when everyone in the world used phones prior to the iphone while very few people use vr?

Yes, maybe not VR but AR, it might take a while but AR is supposed to replace the iPhone. We can laugh at it now but just look at the first computers that took up a whole room and how far we have come. Just look at the first PC that only had 16K on memory and a 12" monochrome monitor.

It's so frustrating and hilarious at the same time. Mine usually ends with "Hey Siri, $%$^#^@" "I won't respond to that" I like my wife's "Hey Siri, why are you so dumb?" "I'm just trying to do my job. May I help you wil anything else?"
