Price

I'm more concerned about the price. Seems like $199-$249 would be the sweet spot, less than the existing iPad but more than the other tablets. I think that would blow the competition away. However the current management team seems a bit...beancounterish...if you will. I'm afraid they will price it at $399-$499 to make more money short term and squander this opportunity to dominate the market long term.

(FWIW I don't think it makes sense to compare the iPM to the iPod Touch. The iPT is an iPhone without the phone, not an iPad that will fit n your pocket. Really a different market.)

Never understood the small tablets. Then you have you phone :-/

But I think it's positive that Apple releases this - cos the competion has smaller, so dumb that Apple hasnt done that years ago.

If the cost is close, then I think the mini is my choice but I enjoy using the kindle, I just have one knock on it - the kindle does poorly in low light situations that's where the paperwhite comes in.

Yep, that's why I upgraded to the Paperwhite. I don't like having all the lights on in the apartment at night in order to read. Nor do I want to purchase an add-on (read afterthought) to bring light to the Kindle.

I think (hope) Apple prices the Mini at a competitive price.

With the new iPod Touch coming in at a whopping $299!!!! Where are they going to price this thing?? ... not sure I would pay $299 for it ... and I definitely have no plans to get a $300-$400 iPod Touch... Maybe the fancy strap adds $100+ to the cost of the touch?

8g, A5, wifi, 1024x768 on a 7.85" screen at 249$. 3g at 299$. Micro SD expansion slot.

I'm loving my Paperwhite a lot. I tend to get too distracted to do other things when I read on the iPad which is why I like the dedicated e-reader. I leave the iPad/iPhone away from me when reading so I can stay more focused.

This is just a ridiculous statement. No one would choose just an e-Reader when they can get so much more. And the Kindle isn't an Apple product. Clearly you can't afford an iPad and chose the inferior Kindle as a poor mans substitute  /end of dripping sarcasm

Sadly - there are several people here who believe what I just wrote.

IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt. IwantIt.

IwantIt, so please be real.

That would be a really sweet spot. But seems like it would be higher than 199 for sure. I am thinking closer to 300 if we are lucky.

So... Where is the Macrumors roundup? The roundup was a great idea for the iPhone 5, but I haven't seen one for iPad Mini or other rumors out there.

If we get a device with iPad 2 specs and its priced $50-$100 more than Fire HD or Nexus 7 I think it will be a fail. I can't see Apple pricing it at $199 since hardware is where they make their money )Bezos just recently confirmed that Amazon basically sells the Kindles at cost). But since it will most likely be more expensive it needs to have better specs/features IMO.

Sweet! If they announce it on the 23rd, I'm within my 2 week window to return my daughter's new $299 iPod touch.

The general has ADD and can't afford the medication. That is not a reason to make fun of him.

Its like, i feel bad for know im going to get this, when i still have debts to pay off. Why am I attracted to such things.

It'll be interesting to see the use cases Apple presents for this device. I'm still not sure why they felt the need to make this.
