Apple's iPhone 5 Pre-order Shipping Estimates Slip to Two Weeks

I created a big problem on last release doing something similar. Had to get it sorted out at the AT&T store.
Would be nice if they include a self-throttling setting, so the user could massage how big a pipe they are comfortable using. Not that my area will have LTE anytime soon, but a feature like that would be helpful I think to those that will have the fast 4G cellular networks. You could make a compromise with the speed you are willing to accept to not use up your fasted allotted bandwidth all at once. I can see this being a jailbreak tweak, assuming the hackers can get in to jailbreak.
My order process this morning went very smoothly. I was kind of shocked as I didn't start my order till 7:30am EST on my iPad (rolled out of bed and done 5 minutes later).
However, I did realize after I ordered through AT&T's site that while I have the "Data Unlimited for iPhone on 4G LTE" listed, I do not see the "SMS 200" ($5/mo) package I've had for years. I wonder if AT&T pulled a fast one on me and removed this from my account w/o my knowledge. I did not see anything saying "service removed" so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm going to call AT&T and make sure it's on my account before I activate the phone.
Not sure if anyone has noticed this and has concerns or am I worrying about nothing...

On premier they force you to pick a data plan. You've got to abandon your unlimited.
I'm mad because my 2 orders are at the stage on Apple's site that I can't cancel them, which I may want to do, since AT&T is quoting 9/21 as the delivery date. Of course AT&T is quoting me full price since both of the upgrade prices are being held by Apple. Blah.
Wasn't AT&T the first carrier to slip to 2 weeks early this AM? Shortly after Apple did? How has that miraculously changed all of the sudden?
Update: I can't even access the order page under my account on apple.com now.
Great, now my Verizon order that I finally got through at 12:40am PST says ships Sept. 26. It said Sept. 21 last night.
Lucky bastard! Time Warner really needs to quit being so stingy with bandwidth in my area, so I have a shot like the faster ISPs at getting my foot in the door in high traffic situations like this.
My order on the Apple Orders page isn't even showing as processing.

VERIZON FOLKS check your order status. I ordered at 3:01 am. Process was done by 3:11 am. Got confirmation email showing 9/21/2012 delivery at 3:14 am.
I just checked my order status and now I am pushed to 9/26/2012.
Hoping that this status update, is automatic based on current (real time) stock levels and not based on the time I got my order processed. If this is the case then I will still get it on the 21st.

Got my confirmation from AT&T that mine is sent to shipping for delivery on Sept. 21.
AT&T is doing a fine job at getting the preorders done. The system is also making sure that plans are automatically changed to 4G LTE for the same price.
Don't want to be a Debbie Downer -- I'm in the same position as you, ordered from ATT at 5am eastern -- but until I see my order being prepared for shipment I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. I have zero faith that ATT's ordering system is dynamic and fully expect a press release later today saying "..oops demand was stronger than we thought so we won't be delivering 99% of our orders on the 21st as stated, please read fine print for details. We love our ATT customers. Peace and love, Randall Stephenson." I'll be ecstatic if that letter never comes, but still expect it.
Really? You can't believe Walmart employees don't give a crap and are out of the loop? I'm not a Walmart hater like most here, but I don't expect Lexus customer service there either. I remember when HD-DVD went bust and Walmart allowed customers to return players, no matter when purchased. I took mine back and they looked at me like I was delusional. Of course I brought a copy of the press release w/me. They had to call Bentonville b/c no one gave them the memo.

Ah, yes... and so it begins. All the cellcos that highlighted "ships on 9/21" to suck us in start the push back. VZW's site still says "ships on 9/21". Liars?
No they don't force you to abandon. I've had unlimited data with AT&T for years and I pre-ordered my iPhone5 this morning and still have unlimited data. You can see it in the order details.
I've ordered through AT&T since the original iPhone, but last night I got in through Apple. Using the Apple Store iOS app was a clutch play.
So here is another shot at the haters and whiners.

FWIW, I spoke to Apple. While I didn't get "yes, you are guaranteed to have it on 9/21" I did get "it probably wont take 2 weeks before its shipped....don't be surprised if you had it on 9/21"

I preordered from Apple store at 4 am CDT this morning and got the "ships in 2 weeks" estimate. My order status on the Apple store still says "available to ship in 2 weeks" but it says right below that the phone will deliver on Oct. 5 (3 weeks from now)! Anyone else seeing that?

Anyone else seeing that?It doesn't seem like you can buy the iPhone 5 at the full (unlocked) price on the Apple site. So, I guess many people are doing what you are doing, paying the $250+ "reduced discount" surcharge or something else that I am not thinking of.
Because I have to imagine that a non-trivial percentage of people who bought the iPhone 5 in that first hour are iPhone 4S users.

Happened to me too and then I checked again a minute ago and it says 9/21 again. I don't know what is going on with their system.

Wow, Verizon's website still says deliver by 9/21...
This is truly amazing. Only Apple can sell the same phone 3 years in a row and have millions upon millions of people line up to buy it. Apple are masters of marketing, yet this year's letdown may end up being the biggest launch ever.
Crazily enough, even I want one. I'm a sucker for anything with an Apple logo on it. My SGS3 is a very good phone if not the best out there at the moment but I have a feeling once I hold the iPhone 5 in my hands it will be love at first sight. Something about Apple products always bring me back but it's going to need to be way better than my 4 to reel me in. And guess what? It is.

Nope. Demand is just high and supply is low with tight production schedules. Same in any high demand physical good manufacturing.
Apple shareholders would not be happy if Apple was intentionally not selling products as fast as they can.

I have the same issue. Searched 4S forums and found Verizon did this last time. In several posts dealing with CSR conversations, they all noted the delivery date on your email confirmation is the date it will be delivered by. The online status is not accurate.
I have had the same plan for years as well. I'm pretty sure you'll still get the 200 texts/month. Sadly, I will lose my unlimited plan now, cos my wife decided it was time she had an iPhone, so we are switching to a mobile share plan... I checked my usage over the last couple years and realised that I have never ever gone over a single GB of data the entire time I have had the unlimited plan...so i'm going with a shared 4gb plan. Should be safe with that.
