made the switch after purchasing the 5 last year you won't regret it, the transition was smooth and exciting I went with a Nexus 4 because I wanted the ' android experience' I looked at the GS3 and it was eh, it did feel cheap in comparison to the i5 ,the nexus is solid with one exception the camera...other than that 10/10, excited for a new nexus device with a better camera, I too own several apple products but the iPhone isn't doing it anymore

That's what a couple of friends/co-workers are telling me when they switched to the S4.

My only concern is the camera quality. The iPhone 5 appears to take better photos than the S4 from what I read. Looking out the HTC One to see photo quality given their low resolution. It's touch since I'm a hobbyist photographer so that feature is important to me.

If you have an iPhone 5 already, I don't know why anyone would waste their money on a minor spec update knowing a more powerful iPhone 6 won't be far behind.

I've done the 4->4S and 4S->5 upgrades, but bought AppleCare+ with the feeling I'd be sticking with my 5 beyond the 5S.

At this point, substantial gains in hardware are becoming less and less significant.

Give me a stupidly longer battery and I will buy the 5S in a heartbeat, though.

Am I the only one that actually manages to use my iPhone 5 without a case and still don't get any scratches? Just like the screens on the iPhone 4 / 4S and their antenna design people debates like everyone and their mother get their screens cracked and their reception down to a crawl when that certainly is not the case.

You're not the only one to not use a case. I hate cases. But I have plenty of scratches and nicks. Simple fact is that my iPhone 4S was a much more durable phone than this one is from a standpoint of cosmetics. I dropped it several times, and I never got any noticeable scratches or nicks on it. This one, not so much.

That, and the fact that I don't like the looks of this phone, even in pristine condition as much as I liked my 4S. The two-toned color on the back reminds me of something that Samsung or HTC would make. If it weren't for the fact that the 5 brought LTE to my Verizon service I may not have upgraded.

I'm torn on this one. I'm eligible for an upgrade, and I hate the idea of paying full boat service charges on Verizon for a year without at least costing them the subsidy price. But the fingerprint tech (and any other features) would need to be pretty awesome to get me to do it.

Android is not an option. I've owned 6 Android devices, and gotten rid of every one of them within two weeks of buying them. I recently had to use an Android phone to do some testing with a new application at work. Ugh. Still a kludgy, nasty mess. No thanks.

Just off the top of my head: bigger screen, widgets, integrated maps that work, to name three.

you know what feature would be really great? i only noticed it on my new phone, the option that makes your phone ring quieter when you pick it up to see whos calling

You keep on thinking that. ;)

So you're making the same logical leap as the other guy but you're leap is somehow more logical? Logicaler? Lol..ok.

That's essentially what users are pushed into doing when their phones get old and there's only one product with the iOS ecosystem. You gonna re-buy all my apps for me Mr. Moneybags?

Ah so you'll continue spending money on a phone you can't stand but rebuy apps? Perish the thought!

Not my job. I know you don't like hearing that, but it's true.

That makes it sound like you don't even know what you're complaining about.

No one is forced to buy the new iPhone, but that's the way the world works. :apple:

Wrong. No one is forced to buy the new iPhone. Full stop.

The fingerprint scanner hidden under the bezel was filed in Q1 of 2013, while the fingerprint, scanner in which I was speaking and showing of was filed in 2011...
Go back.

While the patent application was filed in February of this year, it actually appears to date much further back, as it is a continuation of a previous patent application filed in March 2010 and originally assigned to UPEK, Inc

All I could think about was Dave Chappelle's 2Pac song:

"I wrote this song a long time ago... it was the dopest song I ever wrote... in '94..."

Lol I love that skit.

I really don't think apple would be dumb enough just to release this phone because people with 5's (including me) will not upgrade.

They aren't releasing it to for you. They are releasing it for the 4 and 4s owners who don't need need upgrade every year to feel important. Their contracts are running out now so a new phone is in order.

----------

To the people bitching- let's wait to it is announced before we start judging it. You cannot tell new features by looking at it since it is an S model. As well as hardware upgrades it may also have exclusive software updates like Siri was to the 4S. Jump the gun much?

Not to mention it could be fake. 3d printed fake battery with a fake part number. Same for the alleged chip with no name on it. And so on.

Who knows at this point. I feel pretty sure that the new phone will have the same essential design but its Apple they do what they want so perhaps it won't.

The biggest thing I want is improved battery life. Not sure if we will get that with the 5s but hopefully with the 6.

Apple says pay $250 and replace with a refurbished one because you don't have a warranty anymore. (No thanks jerks)
.

Or you could have gotten Apple Care when you had the chance. I just don't get folks that get pissy with a company that enforces their warranty terms, which you agreed to by buying the product. Especially when you were given a chance to extend the coverage.

Why? It's ridiculous.
The typical teenager has no need for a fingerprint sensor because they have little or nothing of value worth protecting.

A fingerprint sensor is key to (a) corporate and government customers and (b) mobile payments. Corporations and government agencies currently require 8-12 digit alphanumeric passwords to unlock a phone; a fingerprint reader would eliminate these passwords, if properly implemented. Mobile payments haven't taken off because of concerns over security; a fingerprint reader, or a pin combined with a fingerprint reader, would largely address those concerns.

Yeah, the entire scratch thing is blown out of proportion. While I received a pre-scuffed iPhone 5 on launch, they quickly replaced it for free. My current iPhone has yet to be placed into a case and the only scratches that can be found are on the glass part. They aren't even big enough to actually see unless you look in just the right light. The rest of my phone is in mint condition, minus one of the chamfered edges which was gobbled up by a big chair and caught in the chair mechanisms, and even then, I was expecting the entire phone to be scratched or shattered.

The 5S will likely not have the same scuffing problem that this current generation one supposedly has, and the production will likely be better. I'm excited to see what they announce!

Do people really not understand that there are two different upgrade paths for the iPhone? The 5S is for those current with the 4S, considering the 5 just came out last year. Who is going to upgrade their phone every year?

If you're seriously expecting Apple to come out with something crazy every year, you're missing the point entirely.

Most people use the same phone for, what, three years. Why would they go crazy, all out every year.

Last winter I slipped on ice getting out of my car and sent my iPhone sliding across the ground, face down. It barely has any scratches or noticeable wear (other then standard fingerprints, etc). I've learned that tech blogs and their communities will blow anything out of proportion and just ignore it.

has anybody in their life even used a fingerprint sensor before? Those thing can get really annoying since sometime you have to swipe your finger 3 times just for it to recognize it finally.

Just wait and see how many current iphone 5 users will be standing in lines infront Apple stores and be all like "OMG ITS SO BEAUTIFUL I MUST HAVE IT:eek:"

So basically its the exact same thing ;)

That has been the pattern with the "S" models.

The same, but with some differences--faster, plus a new feature or two.

There will be people who can't tell it apart from the 5, but then there were people who couldn't tell the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5 apart, so "people" aren't all that bright (or at least they like to pretend to be dim).

I have, on an HP laptop. I can't recall having to swipe my finger three times. On the other hand, I've fat-fingered an unlock code, which is really, really, really, really annoying, so in relative terms, two swipes on a fingerprint user is a win.

Ehh...

Never had an "S" version. Just a 3g, 4 and 5.

How about solar charging. Can Apple be first to market with technology every again?

My iPhone 5 still looks pretty good, despite having been dropped a few times, and spending a lot of time in my pocket with my keys.

I kept bumpers on my iPhone 4, after seeing other people with shattered faceplates or backplates, but the 5 is much more forgiving. And if it has a bit of "patina" after a couple of years, so what?

Those are just figments of your imagination. If iPhone 5 users are standing in line for a phone that looks the same, they'll be talking about its capabilities, not its looks.
