Oh boy. Wallstreet is gonna love this innovation. Not

1) Wall St. doesn't give a blip about innovation. Plenty of innovations that never made a dime for anyone. And THAT is what Wall St. is interested in... how many nickels and dimes and dollars a company can make over and above it's cost to produce and market its goods and services.

2) Innovation doesn't happen daily, it evolves. It's naive and childish to believe any company that consists of human brain power can constantly pump out completely new product every few months or even every year. The fact is innovations are occurring faster now than any other time in history, but its still a slow process.

3) I'm not target you personally, but it's funny that so many people who complain Apple doesn't push out "innovation" fast enough are also the same who complain that all new Apple products are betas and early adopters beta testers.

Pretty boring Apple....

I think I'll be using an Android device for my next phone. My contract is already up, but I want to see how the 5S will look and feel first. I love my 4S and Apple (I have Apple iMac, MBA, iPad 4, 2 iPhones, iPod Touch, and Apple TV), but I feel I need something more in my phone and a bigger screen. So far I haven't seen anything that an iPhone does that an Android doesn't so I don't think the switch will be too hard on me. I'll be back with an iPhone in 2 years for the "6S" if they decided to innovate on functionality instead of trying to make everything so pretty.

I think that his iteration, in today's market, is Too Little.

Waiting until September to get it to market is Too Late.

I think it's great that Apple keeps the same form factor. If the shape and size of the iPhone changed EVERY year then what? I view the iPhone as a finely crafted device that is subtly refined each year. Take for example, high-end cars, the overall shape of the body stays the same (sometimes there are minimal changes to the body) and the engine, technology, braking systems, etc. are what are changed to improve the car. Porsche is know for it's body style and rarely does anything change with it. Apple COULD change screen size and the shape of the iPhone, but what does that say about the decision of choosing the initial design? You can only change something so many times before you return to the original design IMO. Enjoy the beauty and aesthetics of the iPhone, and if you don't, GET AN ANDROID! Simple as that.

I like hte current design. Means I don't have to buy all new accessories and adapters.

The only exciting news to me is the higher battery capacity. While my 5 generally makes a work day, more the merrier.

As expected ... it will be surprising if the ' lower cost iPhone' launches with a larger screen than 5+5S +more colors couldn't that hurt iPhone 5/5S sales?

I don't think that's a dual LED flash. It looks the phone or camera moved when the shot was taken making it appear long instead of round. We'll see I guess.

Will there be a 128gb version ? I hope so

To me, I don't think there'll be any fingerprint sensor inside this one... unfortunately they'll keep that for the 6 which will be the biggest feature of it,
the point of the S version is just to make it faster and increase the number of megapixels... :(

made the switch after purchasing the 5 last year you won't regret it, the transition was smooth and exciting I went with a Nexus 4 because I wanted the ' android experience' I looked at the GS3 and it was eh, it did feel cheap in comparison to the i5 ,the nexus is solid with one exception the camera...other than that 10/10, excited for a new nexus device with a better camera, I too own several apple products but the iPhone isn't doing it anymore

so same the same chip A6 with dual core 1.2ghz...but with better battery?

I think the A6 has plenty of potential left in it, and with a slight battery capacity increase, especially if coupled with a die shrink of the A6, we might see some incredible battery life. Honestly, the same CPU/GPU performance but another 4 hours of use time? Sign me up. :) They could also shrink the die, tweak the clock a couple of tenths, increase the battery and probably see the same battery life but with 20-20% better performance.

4 to 4S, although not the biggest upgrade, had faster Internet which was enough for me to want to upgrade.

How is apple gonna take my money now? They're gonna release the same phone and expect me to buy it? Nope.

What if they simply mirror the 4>4S upgrade path: better SOC, better camera(s), AC WiFi, improved cell/LTE, maybe better battery life plus something like much better flash tech? If the 4 to 4S update was enough to get you to buy (without any form factor change), I would think the same for the 5 to 5S would be equally enticing [?]

What more can you add to a phone that's useful and not gimmicky ?

Hardware wise, I think we're certainly hitting a stagnation point. Security and payment options (i.e., fingerprint, NFC or equivalent) maybe, but otherwise, the hardware of all phones has just about every imaging, sensor, communication sub-system that's available. I think most of what we'll see in the next few generations will be from software (combined with an increase in processing power).

The S line isn't intended to targeted non-s users. Most of us are on two year contracts and simply can't or don't want to spend the extra money to upgrade every year. For current 4/4S users it's a beneficial upgrade. I wonder what else they have in store though to convince current 5 owners that they should upgrade. We've seen this previously in other S models with faster HSPA speeds, Siri, etc..

I really do think Apple has created a roadmap that factors in the [US] based 2 year plans. I know several people that are on deck for an upgrade from the 4S, the 5 wasn't an option, even though most said they would've loved to have scored a 5.

I hope it does a better job than the current flash.

LED flashes just suck period, though.

I'd love a dimmable flash... for just a tiny bit of light instead of a blinding full wash.

Yeah, you know, I always thought we'd see Xenon based flash tech take hold, or possibly a dual stage flash system with LED and Xenon, so LED for sustained use (video, flashlight) or moderate still image needs (or notification/accessibility), then at some point of low light, the Xenon would kick in for serious lighting needs (just for still pics since it's very battery intensive).

My 5 takes fantastic photos, and had decent low-light performance, but it really needs a better flash.

I'm considering this option too, but I'm tired of waiting on updates for my phone. Plus all of the bloatware on the S4 was just too much for me. I hate to say it, but for me the iPhone has just provided an overall better experience.

Same here. I've had/used (for extended periods), a number of Android devices, some with the "pure" Android, flashed dozens of custom ROMs, tweaked, gyrated, tried plenty of apps (both free and pay) and the Apple experience is always superior.

Just have to wait and see what happens with the 6. Never expected much of a jump from the iPhone5 to the iPhone5s model.

All of your examples prove the OP's point. Did we know when the G4 PM would be updated?...
It is an artificial schedule not based on innovation, but on when Apple thinks the best time to sell a new form factor will be. Or do you think that Apple just coincidentally has a new viable idea for a new phone every two years?

Does Apple systematically have a new ground breaking idea for iPhones every two years? Where?

Every year Apple pumps out a new phone and its always an evolutionary step. Always. The first iPhone was innovative and changed the world. That's it.

The second added 3G.
The 3rd (3GS) a compass and better camera.
#4 (4) a new case, rear camera, flash, and a video camera.
#5 (4S) a better video and still camera, and Siri (formerly an iPhone app, not new at all).
#6 (5) Improved cameras! and bigger screen.

Now from #1 to #6 there is a lot of tech advancement (I wouldn't go so far to say innovative b/c its not novel, and not exclusive to Apple), but from year to year, even every two years its quite evolutionary -- nothing that will be reported as changing the world like the original iPhone or even edison's wired phone.

If you go back to the OS 8, 9, OS X 10.0 days you'll find that updates and advancement were quite slow and buggy, especially with 10.0 to 10.2. Apple didn't push out update because it busy innovating, it wasn't pushing out updates because it wasn't innovating. It was stymied. The truth is the "Think Different" ad was targeted not to customers, but Apple engineers, as a motivation tool to get them back on track at a time when employees were demoralized and there was a lot of defections.

So I fail to see how the points in my original post prove OP's point.

If you have an iPhone 5 already, I don't know why anyone would waste their money on a minor spec update knowing a more powerful iPhone 6 won't be far behind.

so basically the only difference on the outside is that it has that ugly led light that makes the whole device look ugly as hell?

Are you a plant? Lol. Which competitor redesigns it's phone every year?

Ridiculous to see apple making another "S" product when their competitor keeps redesigning the phone once a year

No winder their stock has plummeted

If these rumors are true, I will be very disappointed
