Do you think the shortage of 6+'s has more to do with:

A. More people want the 6+ than the 6

or

B. Apple manufactured less 6+'s because they anticipated less people would opt for the 6+.
Probably a little bit of both. The 6 Plus pre-order allotment was likely smaller where they produced more 6's since that is probably where the bulk of pre-orders will be (and it's better to have sufficient demand for that to go out the door on the 19th).

I myself placed an order for a non-contract 128GB 6 Plus around 2.5 hours after pre-ordering began when the Apple Store site finally came up for me; my delivery estimate was already at 7-10 business days (I finally was able to view my order status on the Apple Store a short while ago and the estimate hasn't been increased yet like some others where their e-mail showed the lower estimate, but order status on the website was pushed out).

The Plus would be an unknown to Apple as to how strong demand would be AFTER the initial pre-order surge (and so they probably went conservative on the production). The pre-orders will tell them where to shift manufacturing over this weekend though.

So while estimates quickly dropped to 7-10 business days, if they have more than sufficient supplies for the 6 to meet the 19th delivery date, they could shift more lines to pump out 6 Pluses and possibly fulfill some of the early 7-10 business day orders by the 19th as well. The ones who have delivery estimates beyond this 7-10 day window though may end up having to wait awhile if iPhone 6 supplies become constrained over the course of the coming week.

For the rest of the phone you can't compare the stats to those of android because they are not comparable. That 2.4 ghz quad core snapdragon in android phones barely edges out the a7 in benchmarks. This is all down to iOS using resources better. You CANNOT compare android specs to iOS specs, they are not comparable due to the differences in the OS

It's also that the 64-bit ARMv7 architecture runs circles around the 32-bit designs that Qualcomm and others use. It's like comparing a Pentium 4 to a Haswell dual core. The Pentium 4 will have a higher clock speed. The Hasell will be faster.

You'd think Apple would do better research about what people will actually order. The ATT site went live for me at 1:58am Central. I was done with my order for a 6+ Gold 126GB at 2:02am. Got an email that said 14-21 days. When I got up, I had another email telling me Oct 22nd.

Seriously?

It's not that simple. Unlike the 6, which uses just a bigger version of the same display as the 5s and 5c, the 6 Plus uses a higher resolution screen. Apple's suppliers may not have had enough of them (after all, other manufacturers have phones with the same resolution and similar size). Since we saw very few 5.5" part leaks as compared to the 4.7" (we had working 4.7" phones leak over a week ago, and only a battery and some ancillary parts for the 5.5"), my guess is that something delayed production. Maybe those reports about display manufacturers scrambling in June and July because of a last-minute change were true, but applied only to the 6 Plus.

I was refreshing the UK Apple Store page and bingo about 8:35am was able to select a 6 Plus 128 (Slate Grey) and got my confirmation email by 8:39am. It is currently "preparing for shipment" for delivery next Friday - so the UK had a good few for release day.

A bit worrying that for about the next two hours after the order, checking my order said "We're Sorry. Something went wrong with your request. Please try again later." but it sorted itself out. Looks like I was a lucky one.

"the UK had a good few for release day" my a*s, my confirmation email was 5 minutes after yours and my 6+ is 3 to 4 weeks despatch time. Spent 40 minutes in the morning playing the mushing F5 game like everyone else, only to have the store came online after leaving for work.

Was late for work anyway, plus just checked the bank, money already gone from account and Apple online store is down AGAIN!

This is the 1st time I pre-ordered iPhone and it will be my last. This is worst than Google's Nexus 4 launch!

Good to hear some UK member will get the 6 Plus on the 19th, but there are lot of us got up early in the morning pissed off at Apple's inability to provide a simple web service.

A couple of comments.... It's impossible for Apple to provide perfect capacity for something that happens once a year (or less often.. they didn't do it last year for the main product, the 5s!). Stockholders and others would want to know WTF they spent megabucks on capacity for one night a year that only got them orders a few days quicker than they would have gotten them anyway.

Ditto for the carriers, and part of Apple's issue is the need to talk to the carrier databases, which are slammed also. (Thus the reservation emails.)

As for the Apple Store app working, there's a LOT less data pushed to and from the app than to and from their servers and your browser for the web store. So, they may have taken the web store down on purpose to get through the first few hours.

why would you drive across the country with 3 young kids? just take a plane

Get to spend time with them. We've got it all planned out.

The original message was for the young lady that didn't seem to have empathy for the guy that couldn't get his phone. I was just offering her a different perspective. Apparently she didn't get my humor on the whole thing, judging by her reply.

"WE'LL BE BACK" THIS :apple:PRE ORDER WAS A NIGHT MARE .I..:apple: I was up all night and at 3:45am I got my order but is set for 3-4 weeks shipping.!? I don't understand how the hell :apple:server crashed.!?

I am so ******** angry man I have no words:mad:last time they did this **** I was done and purches an hTC :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

If you waited a day you'd not have a heart attack and only have to wait 1-2 weeks more...

Is this a real thing you just said? What would you have done then if Apple decided not to release the iPhone 6, say, until next month or the month after? You'd have to wait, wouldn't you? I stand by what I said. If you can afford these things and you have time to complain about waiting for them for a while then you don't have very many worries. Instant gratification is destroying us. It's destroying us so much that you, a genuine, real life human being thought that that comment was a good counter point to someone being told to hold their jets for a couple of weeks and wait patiently for their expensive smartphone.

I can't find a violin small enough for your story.

I'm sorry you can't find a violin small enough, but you seem quite angry at people in their situations, and people offering you counterpoints. I'll just say, "you're right." You win this one, and be on my way.

I had got an error last night trying to preorder my phone and it said that my phone was reserved but the order was not completed because It couldn't contact att. They said they would email when they reached att. Around 9am pst I got an email from apple letting me know I could proceed with my order. I then went through all the steps only to find out I couldn't change my shipping address. I guess it was trying to send the phone to my billing address which is a po box and seeing as fedex can't ship to po boxes I was stuck, or so I thought. After a brief chat online with a rep from apple and finding out that even if they could change the shipping address it might push the delivery back 2-3 weeks. I was told I could see if an in store pick up was available. Lucky for m the apple store less then 10 min from my house was averrable for in store pick up. So looks like I will be getting my phone on launch after all lol. I guess I will have to deal with the mob at the apple store but so be it as long as I get my phone.

don't feed the fandroids and their specs

If 15M decide to pre-order within 6h window, you all think you're getting your phone on the 19th? This is predictable to the max and anyone getting aggravated are probably aggraveted for many other things in their lives too...

that's torturing the kids

They're excited about it! We're taking them to Washington, DC, then across to see different cool things along the way.

They even get to, if they want to see the largest ball of twine in Oklahoma, get to call out a few things too.

400 miles/day isn't that bad, especially if you get up at 4am and on the road at 5. That's only 4 hours of driving a day in a turbocharged minivan!

I sort of dount they can turnaround production that fast. It takes a month usually for them to truly catch up if there is significant deficit. You have to remember that to produce phones they actually need the components for them, the supply chain is not instantaneously shiftable.

I wouldn't exactly go that far, considering the Galaxy S5 had and still has one of the best cameras on a phone today. Don't know how it compares to the 6+ tho

Considering the S5 only came out what, 4 months ago, "still" should be a minimum..., but its in fact not true. The 5s has the better camera, its more accurate, shoots faster and has a better low light performance. The Iphone Camera is in general fantastic.

----------

I meant more about how the store crashed for lots of people. Was that a tech fail or was it just the reality of crushing demand? Is it possible that 10 million folks tried to pre-order between last night and this morning? Or is a number like that just out of the realm of reality?

10M at the same time would 100% crash a web site's back end (the front end may be able to survive); but, I doubt its that much; even 5M in 3h would still crash the site until people back off a bit.

Anyone try to change the shipping address after ordering from Apple? Can't do it because of AT&T, but is there any way to change it after the fact?

I had the same thing happen. Went to Apple to try and change and received the same message. Then went to AT&T changed my billing address and tried again still couldn't. I had to call Apple and they finally changed it. I was on hold for 2 hours and 15 mins. I had no choice I don't live at those apts any longer. Good luck maybe you will find a better way!

.

Yes the iPhone's camera is great but to simply dismiss the S5's camera is a bit much IMO. The S5's camera was and still is highly praised as one of the best on the market. It takes phenomenal shots. I know that Samsung is the devil around these parts but give credit to where it's due. Both Apple and Samsung's flagship phones have great cameras. I'm sure it'll continue with the 6/6+ and I'm sure Samsung's Note 4 and especially S6 will take it up a notch too.

For the first time ever I am going to queue on launch day (London regent Street). The pre order as really screwed me over with the 3-4 week delivery estimate. Normally I would make do with my old phone but my phone (iPhone 5)is being sold for £200 and that will come down further so I need to sell the thing asap to subsidise the iPhone 6+. So I don't want to be without a phone for weeks.

I thought the new Harry Potter ride (Universal Studios) queue was long (7 hours) I suspect the queue for the iPhone 6+ will make that look like a picnic.

1:30 on hold so far... I'm meeting people for dinner in 30 mins, this is not good.

What could make my order 22-28 days long when I ordered probably a couple of minutes 2-5 after the site went up. I ordered through ATT premier, also have a premier account iphone 6plus 64gb.

Did you order a plus? My ship date came in as late as november 27th and I ordered a few minutes after 3am (as soon as I could actually use the website). My guess is att actually had no iphone 6+ stock and therefore are a bunch of liars. Really bad business. I cancelled my order, and will try my luck launch week.
