When my iPhone 6S is in the Smart Battery Case the iPhone typically shows between 96-99% battery, occassionally 100%. The case battery % (viewable in notification center or whatever the pull-down is called) drops over time - if you're under heavy usage, the case will go down to 0% before the phone % starts dropping.

With the phone in the case, when plugged in, the phone charges first before the case will start charging.

In other words, the case discharges first, and charges last.
right ok, so it trickle charges it around the 100% mark. how long on average does the case last you before it is empty?

Can you use the 6s Smart battery on the iPhone 7 or do you need to buy a new one?

EDIT: I'll answer my own question of course you CAN'T the camera opening is different on the 7 cases vs the 6 cases.

Apple, the master at forced obsolescence!

Um, you can always cut out a larger camera opening to fit the camera through. Plus this new version didn't cause your old one to explode or stop functioning.

One of the best accessories Apple has ever made.

Great look and feel.

Very impressed that the new one has even better specs. That makes the 7 a true road monster.

Best battery case on the market. If you need one, this is the one to get. It will be more than enough charge for even a heavy user to get a full day even in a location with a bad singal.

Honestly I've never really tested or paid much attention - but in a personal "real life" example, I typically can't make it from morning until bed time without plugging in my 6S. With this case, I would be comfortable making it over night into the next day, in case that's helpful.

I think Apple states the case will add about 10 hours to the usage time?

It is ugly as sin, but goddamn did I love the battery life I got when using it on my 6s. Perfect, ugly travel companion.

A lot of people are upset about how these look, but as a film maker I think the extended battery life is super helpful regardless of appearance. Also they look pretty nice in my opinion. Simple design for function.

As customers around the world begin receiving Apple's iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case, it has now been confirmed that the charging case is rated for 2,365 mAh, a 26% increase over the iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case's 1,877 mAh rating.

Chinese technical certifications revealed that the iPhone 7 likely has a larger 1,960 mAh battery, as previously rumored, meaning Apple's Smart Battery Case can charge the smartphone fully with roughly 17% capacity remaining.

Apple officially says a fully charged iPhone 7 with a fully charged Smart Battery Case can provide combined talk time up to 26 hours, internet use up to 22 hours on LTE, and video playback up to 24 hours.

When the Smart Battery Case is turned on, a battery status is displayed on the Lock screen and in Notification Center to keep track of its charge level. The case has a silicone exterior in white or black, while the inside has a soft microfiber lining.

The iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case is available now for $99 on Apple's website.

It might have looked slightly better if they hadn't used the white iPhone to show it off. :p Despite that I'm not sure how they could make it look any better, there's going to be a hump no matter what, or a smooth taper and then phone will rock back and forth, or it will be flush and just be thick all the way around.

I quite like the case. It's better than any other battery case I've owned (Mophie, Anker), and it's integration into the OS is nice. However, the iOS10 update has caused problems. Sometimes the phone doesn't register that the battery is there. At other times, the phone just drains both batteries extremely quickly. I wish I didn't need the case battery, but my iPhone 6 is simply not reliable; the OS does not do a good job of reporting current battery status and I've been caught out many a time as a result.

I was having similar issues to that with my iPhone 6 Smart Battery Case before iOS 10. I would charge it, it would show fully charged, but then the battery would drain extremely fast after unplugging from power. If this seems persistent, I'd recommend going by an Apple Store to explain your situation. I went to the Apple Store and explained my case was no longer holding a charge, and they provided me a new case with very little questioning. I have been running iOS 10 public betas for the last month with the replacement case with no issues, so I'm thinking you might just have a faulty battery case.

I've been using my phone+case combo today, and so far (7 hours) today my case is at 75% while the phone is at 100%. Admittedly, I haven't been using my phone heavily today, but I will say that even on extremely heavy usage days I have not ran through the case AND phone battery. (Obviously, keep in mind that everyone's use cases are slightly different). It really does do a pretty good job of only kicking it on every now and then to get your phone back up to 100%. Also, FYI I have an iPhone 6 running iOS 10.

right ok I'm understanding this case more now. so its basically the equivalent to having 2 batteries

thanks

Overall, the battery doesn't like to be at 100% charge. Even if you did that, it would still be at 100% charge most of the time. Either way, your phone won't blow up like a Samsung....
If your life depended on having the best battery life in two years from now, you probably should keep it charged at 40% and stored at 8 ºC for most of the time (with periodic, eg, once a month, cycling). I'd rather prefer not to worry about how to use the battery while using my phone for the next two years compared to getting 10, 20% more battery life out of it two years from now.

Ideal battery maintenance is another topic for another day. The only point I made is that both types of battery cases have some form of degradation and Apple's isn't flawless.

Apple has shown once again...they truly only care about themselves. Do you think for one second Apple cares about YOU or me, not for a single second. They only see us as $$$. This case is the most ugliest case in the world and its recharging cycle sucks. So now its even more battery capacity now...this only means the previous version sucked even more but yet they charged us the same amount. Wow, this is to show how great Apple is...folks are so naive. I guess apple fan boys will be apple fan boys...must worship my Goddess Apple. What a joke people, this design is ugly

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a sleek battery case produce more money for the greedy Apple you speak of?

Was gonna buy it but realized you can't turn it off when the phone is in the case

So if ur phone is at 100 and you have the phone in the case, it will charge the phone whether you want it to or not

Dumb of Apple to not have an on/off switch

Not buying it cus of that reason

Gonna wait for mophie

If your phone is at 100 and you have the phone in the case, the phone will draw from the battery first. This is a good thing. This is what you want. You don't want an on off switch. Trust me.
