The idiotic “influencers” killed the product before it was given a chance.

They said it would break easily (it’s the most durable iPhone ever). They said the battery life is terrible (it nearly identical to the base 17). They said it’s missing cameras (90% of people take 90% of their shots using the main lens).

And yet Apple caters to these people who chase clicks for a living.
They said Jonnyb098 pulled bogus stats out of nowhere and they were right.

A LOT of people didnt like the MBA when it first came out and hated the people that did and called them stupid. A couple iterations later and it became the most popular Mac ‘for the people’

I was a MBA originalist and now an iPhone Air owner and dont regret it. I get great battery life for what i use it for and LOVE the design!

You Pro-sumers have a tendency to be a bit stuck up. Personally im a Heavy user of all Apple devices.
Most people who buy a pro don’t use a single “pro” feature. They get them for the giant screens and battery life. The Pro Max is the tech equivalent of buying a pickup truck when you work from home in an apartment.

Everything about iPhone is want. Apple sells wants and aspirations. Who here needs an iPhone 17 Pro Max because their 13 Pro Max doesn't cut it?

Why do you think Ford F-series trucks are the best selling vehicles in America? Why do SUVs completely outsell sedans globally?

That's what some Air owners completely fail to get. They're mired in myopic thinking. They're devastated when the sales numbers don't align with their beliefs.

While it’s true that people use the main camera for 90% of the photos, that 10% time you do need the telephoto/wide angle, you are up against the wall.

And no, please don’t talk about “I have a DSLR in those instances”. Let’s compare Apples to Apples 😊

I bought the 12 mini when it came out, kept it for five years and it was a great phone. Bought an Air 2 weeks ago and love it and will keep it for another 5 years. By then I'll probably buy the next phone that doesn't sell and love that one too.

Every person I’ve shown my Air to all say the same thing. They love its lightness, and a return to what feels like a more focused phone. I recognize that it’s a small number of people in the scheme of things. I have nothing bad to say about the Air and hope that Apple continues to bring products to market that may seem to some to be questionable or foolish.

For the price the air needed to be more premium and it wasn't. Even when it wasn't an issue of space the USB-C port was limited to non-pro USB-2.0 speeds. Why make it feel less pro than it already was without a good reason? There weren't any practical reasons to go from a 17 to an Air.

This is so true. The Air is not for everyone, but it's a fantastic phone that does everything I would want it to do. Not only are the battery life and camera better than I expected, they are excellent. And the screen, form factor, materials, look, feel, and durability are probably the best of any iPhone.

Respectfully, I do see where you’re coming from but I am going to challenge this if you don’t mind.

if I “want” some so called basics - bigger battery and a big screen, and the most brightness outdoors and good built in speakers because I use them a lot, do I even have a choice other than a Pro Max? Does it even matter if I don’t have much use for the rest of the pro features? Most people I know buy the top end phones to avail themselves of the aforementioned features more than the pro features.

I think the one thing they haven't tried yet is the most obviously likely to work: an iPhone Ultra.

It's clear from the Mini / Plus / Air experiments that most people are happy with either the base model, or spending more to get "the best" iPhone (a Pro model), and don't want an in-between compromise. I think an iPhone Ultra, slotting in above the Pro Max, with even better camera, better battery, and extra features or cool unique design, would sell really well (and rake in tons of $$$ for Apple since it would be so expensive).

There are a lot of people out there who really like to have the best thing. Why not offer them something even better?
They should have stuck to the mini.

The U.S. consumer is so brainwashed they can't handle anything beautiful or sensible. it has to be over the top, too much and bawdy. Look what happened to small cars. Look what happened to small independently owned shops. Even by the metric of who we voted back into power, as a whole we are just plain dumb.

Failure or not, this was an engineering challenge to prepare for the upcoming folding iPhone, which is going to resemble two of these stacked. And perhaps the tech will trickle down to the standard iPhone and ultimately make it thinner with the same battery life it has now.

It's also an engineering challenge that will enable future wearables like Vision Air. Fitting virtually the entire phone into the plateau means they can fit iPhone class electronics into the frame of a pair of glasses with batteries in the arms.

what? The internet mob has been shouting for years that all iPhones are the same, and honestly, since the 11 Pro, they've all been more or less the same. Apple made a different phone with a premium, almost futuristic design, and once again, the sheep are shouting that no one wants this type of phone. So what do you want? The same thing over and over again with a battery that won't charge? I don't understand :D.
The Air is nearly an entry level iPhone at a premium price. Thin is not a premium, it’s a form factor.

As someone who might have actually bought the Air, I do partly understand why it failed. It’s beautiful, elegant, light and thin. Everything I want from a phone. But they made it too big and too expensive. I’m still choosing the regular model. It’s lightweight too, and most importantly, compact. And boy is it really good this year!

Pro (Max) users must be thrilled right now. They hated this model even though they never even planned to buy it in the first place. :D

I guess “Bring iPhone Air back” is going to be the new “Bring iPhone Mini back.”

Well I would disagree with you. There is a large subset of users who don't want an ever larger and heavier phone. The beautify of the Air is the thinness, lightness, and easier to hold in the hand without fatigue. The difference is even noticeable between the Air and the base 17. The battery life is fine, it's as good as my 16 Pro was. The speaker is fine for most uses. Most people are good with just the one camera.
The 17 is easier to wrap your hand around than the Air. The batter life is ‘fine’. Why would anyone pay a premium price for ‘fine’? Most people may be ‘fine’ with a single camera, but they are not paying a premium for it.
