Will wait for discounts, should be huge.

I need to go try one to see if there is any way I could tolerate the size.

Want to be ready for the upcoming holiday season fire sale 🔥 on these, particularly through carriers who will want to CUT BAIT big time.

Apple built an iPhone nobody asked for once again. At least the minis were somewhat of a throwback to the original form factor, but Apple should have learned that battery life is key and possible what killed the minis and the air. The 16e was just a hot mess of left over iPhone parts w/ a new chip. Now we just wait for the iPhone Fold to flop - because once again Nobody asked for it.

I’d have been more interested if the iPhone Air wasn’t 30g heavier and much larger than my current iPhone.

Even at clearance prices it’s still too big.

Precisely what I'm sure I'll agree with once I try one, but figured I'll keep an open mind until then.

Anyone notice the post count went WAY down….

Anyway, I really liked the form of the Air. The lack of mmWave, lenses and stereo speakers kept me from buying. The battery…. not a huge deal to me, and seems that it does get decent life per charge. Hopefully, we’ll get something that looks and feels similar without the compromises. I’m really enjoying my 17P (coming from 14P), but it is getting a little boring.

eta: I did try it out at the store. I picked it up. I felt it.

what? The internet mob has been shouting for years that all iPhones are the same, and honestly, since the 11 Pro, they've all been more or less the same. Apple made a different phone with a premium, almost futuristic design, and once again, the sheep are shouting that no one wants this type of phone. So what do you want? The same thing over and over again with a battery that won't charge? I don't understand :D.

So it's more doom and gloom for the future of Apple. They finally innovated for once and what do they get?
It’s not doom and gloom, because even if they sold zero Airs, they are still selling over 10% more iPhone 17s this year than 16s last year. (The numbers say they are up 14% year over year, and the Air makes up 3% of unit sales.)

Well I would disagree with you. There is a large subset of users who don't want an ever larger and heavier phone. The beautify of the Air is the thinness, lightness, and easier to hold in the hand without fatigue. The difference is even noticeable between the Air and the base 17. The battery life is fine, it's as good as my 16 Pro was. The speaker is fine for most uses. Most people are good with just the one camera.

There's too many models of phones. iPhone 16, 16e, 17, Air, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max all available new from Apple right now. iPhones 14, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max and all 4 15 models also available refurbished from Apple.

Most certainly.

For a company like Apple who's staffed with brilliant engineers, designers, developers and marketers, one would think they would use these vast resources to improve or revamp the Air into a successful product.

It’s certainly not out of the realm of possibilities.

No doubt in my mind. It will happen.

Why would people buy the Air if they DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT!? There has been exactly zero marketing around this phone, at least none that I have seen. Everything I've seen on TV is for the 17 Pro. I think it would do much better if they at least tried a marketing campaign to educate consumers.

Welcome to the internet. People enjoy bitching and moaning about everything online. It’s worth remembering that what a lot of people short aboit online bears no relation whatever to their opinions and purchasign decisions in the real world.

There's a lot of Walter Mittys on this site.

Just because a load of people are saying they updated their 16 pro to a 17 pro max, or that they bought an air and returned it for a pro max ( I don’t understand the obsession with „max”), it doesn’t mean they did any of that in the real world.

That sucks. It’s a great phone. Doesn’t sound like we’ll see a gen 2 upgrade. A few minor things esp a second speaker would go a long way, maybe even solid state battery

Very, very happy with my air. But the thing that surprises me the most is how many people I meet who have no idea it exists. I was at the pub at the weekend and someone just happened to notice it- 4 people had recently bought the 17 pro/max and all were astounded by the air, and all would’ve picked it if they’d known about it. Sure, small sample, but it’s been a roughly common theme. Also, I’ve not seen a single advert for it around London. Only the orange pro- billboards, bus stops, tube… not seen the Air advertised once. I don’t get apple’s marketing dept.

The future of the Air is more than likely the Fold.

But to have a future AT ALL, it needs to start selling better. So fingers crossed.🤞🏼

Sorry... don't see that happening - they'll likely both coexist. Not everyone, including me, wants a folding iPhone.

I remember when the original iPhone was released. Pretty much resulted in the same gloom and doom comments. Just like today - it's a tradition. There's lots of room for improvement for the Air.

Despite what many here think, Apple (and its engineers and program managers) are not stupid.

Regardless of what the actual real number is, and regardless of whether Ming Chi Kuo and other analysts are right or not...

...there is very clearly a strong sentiment from the industry (across enthusiasts, influencers and analysts) that the iPhone Air must fail.

So there is an agenda here, regardless of what the truth is.

It’s funny how many here are going by what Ming Chi-Kuo has to say when he’s had bad track record. Regardless, even if he is right, I couldn’t care less because I will still enjoy this phone for many years until Apple makes another mistake.

1. Denial
2. Anger <—
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance

You’ll probably notice a lot angry posts about lack of marketing, blaming reviewers, or something else. Anything but the actual product itself.

Most people want at least a couple cameras, the bast battery life they can get, and stereo speakers. The $999 price tag doesn’t help.
I work with photography and audio, and I’m quite happy with one camera and the single speaker. Sure, I’m probably an outlier, but if I want quality zoom then I’ll use my proper camera, and if I want ‘stereo’ sound I’ll use an actual stereo or headphones. The marketing of those features is very powerful for the pros. Enjoy! Like I do my Air.
