I think IF Apple decides to continue the iPhone Air, it really needs a 3,900 to 4,000 mAh internal battery. That plus the efficiency gains from the A20 SoC and C2 radio modem chip could give the iPhone Air the same life per charge as the iPhone 16 Plus.

The idiotic “influencers” killed the product before it was given a chance.

They said it would break easily (it’s the most durable iPhone ever). They said the battery life is terrible (it nearly identical to the base 17). They said it’s missing cameras (90% of people take 90% of their shots using the main lens).

And yet Apple caters to these people who chase clicks for a living.
I wish Apple would sue MKBHD for constantly pushing a misleading “pro user” perspective. :D It would teach him a lesson. I used to like him. These days he just preaches about how everyone should have a brick-thick phone with seven cameras just because he needs one.

Someone really needs to start a channel that reviews these devices from a true everyday user’s perspective. Not from a YouTuber’s or content creator’s point of view. People like MKBHD and others genuinely can’t see beyond their own use case.

And your response is exactly what’s wrong with Apple’s advertising of Air (or lack thereof).

Air factually can match 17 Pro Max battery life when both are on cellular only. No WIFI. It is that efficient already. So Air actually already beat iPhone 16 Plus battery life.

But no, Apple won’t mention that C1X is already that efficient. Everyone is too caught up on the low battery capacity and cannot see beyond that.

turns out a phone that is way more expensive than a better phone isn't going to sell well!! Who would have thunk!

It's also an engineering challenge that will enable future wearables like Vision Air. Fitting virtually the entire phone into the plateau means they can fit iPhone class electronics into the frame of a pair of glasses with batteries in the arms.

Let's not exaggerate what Apple did. They fit only the A19 SoC into the plateau, not the "entire phone." The only reason the chip fits there is because there is no second camera.

The vast majority of the logic board sits below the plateau.

iPhone 17 Pro/Max uses the same layout with the logic board below the plateau.

Reduced weight? The Air is 12% heavier than the SE 2020 (and 46% heavier than the SE 2016).
Upgrade worthy reduction. That 12% was the most I was willing to loose. So until an upgrade that reduced the overall weight difference and had upgrade worthy options.

120Hz display 460ppi 6.5” always on display with max peak 3k nits.

A LOT of people didnt like the MBA when it first came out and hated the people that did and called them stupid. A couple iterations later and it became the most popular Mac ‘for the people’

I was a MBA originalist and now an iPhone Air owner and dont regret it. I get great battery life for what i use it for and LOVE the design!

You Pro-sumers have a tendency to be a bit stuck up. Personally im a Heavy user of all Apple devices.
The MBA is a different story.
Apple since 2021:
The Pro and Max chips are better

Apple with the MacBook Air:
You don't need those chips because its so thin.
but they don’t charge 20% more than the Pro chip MBP for the Air.

This indicates that the company has suffered losses and is reducing production. I won't be surprised if Apple raises the prices for the future basic iPhone model. Now is the best time to buy a basic 17 model

I love my iPhone Air, the titanium frame, the sky blue color, design, and its overall performance. Feels more comfortable to hold over than my old 14 Pro for sure, and battery life just depends on the day. Don’t regret getting one, even after trying mine out side by side with a 17 Pro and Pro max.

I LOVE my iPhone Air. I think a lot of early reviews scared people away before they actually got their hands on them. MKBHD said about “red flags”. Turns out battery life is quite good. I have not had mine run out in a single day once. Also the camera is great. I don’t do much wide angle or zoom shots anyway. The single speaker means nothing either as I use Air Pods. It is soooo much more comfortable to hold and carry in my pockets. They should have given reviewers units prior to announcing so they could see the compromises are reasonable for most people.
Battery life is bad, it is actually really bad

Not sure whether Apple will launch a new model next year or Apple might continue to sell the Air alongside the 18 Pro for one more year.

Pretty much everyone I know uses a case, so the whole thin design aesthetics get lost inside that $30 cover.

You end up with something marginally thinner, compromising in features.

Customers aren’t dumb - they just opt for the regular iPhone to get much more value out of their purchase.
