Give some credit to the Pixel -

Android has a superior notification system with customizable toggles. Not that ugly Control Center which lacks a GPS/location services toggle and separates toggles from lockscreen messages.

Superior camera

Superior battery life

Doesn't have an all-glass rear where it needs a case. Less smudges and fragility.

Less expensive to repair.

Display seems to be its glaring weakness or at least the XL/LG-made one.

But hey, what do I know about phones? ;)

I would actually get the Pixel 2 if it came in panda, same screen/bezel ratio as the XL, microSD slot or if it could be recognized by my MBA using Android File Transfer.

Not being recognized by Mac while no microSD slot where I can just put it in a SD adapter is a deal breaker.

These phones aren't even on the same planet, for me personally.

The Pixel has an excellent camera but:
  • Mostly Plastic
  • Has Huge Bezels
  • An inferior OLED from LG. Color shift. Burn in.
  • Less premium build quality
  • Generally Ugly
  • No wireless charging.
  • Removed headphone jack after making fun of Apple...loses all credibility

I agree completely, and like other said,
  • iOS and it’s app ecosystem knocks the socks off of Android. Way more polished and reliable. It is a more secure operating system and it does a much better job of sand-boxing your apps so they don’t cause ill-effects (e.g. run down your battery in while running in the background).
  • I don’t trust Google with my data.
  • Face ID is not better than touch ID, seriously? Ever try to unlock your phone after holding a cold can or bottle? The slightest amount of moisture on your finger and it can’t read your fingerprint.

I have almost the exact same apps on my Pixel as I did on my iPhone. And the ones I don't have there are good alternatives. Android apps are very polished now. I can also run trials of full versions of apps. My battery is fine. The latest version of Android is very good at hibernating apps and caching them when not in use. The battery lasts around the same that my iPhone 8 did. Maybe longer. Most of the stuff people complain about regarding Android just aren't true anymore. As for security, that is still an issue.

People get way too emotional over a damn phone. If you prefer a hardware experience buy an iPhone, if you want a more fluid software experience buy a Pixel. Why is this so hard? iOS has been garbage for years now. Anyone stating otherwise is just being disingenuous.

Android is in another league right now. Don't believe me? Try a Pixel and take a picture. That's all software!

Android 8.0 is a better, more complete 2017 mobile operating system than iOS 11.

My comments in bold. Lots of old time impressions that aren't really true anymore.

This is where people lose me. iOS as currently configured is a F'n mess.
Right, and what iOS apps are people looking for on Android? Apple mail? I don't get it.

Uh The Pixel doesn’t have any plastic. It’s aluminum and glass.

The Pixel 2 XL has tiny bezels.

It probably depends on what apps you use. I’ve tried to go to Android a couple of times, but came running back to Apple. Some things about Apple piss me off, but it’s nothing to do with their products.

I just find it odd that LG has the best 4K OLED/HDR TV right now with their C7-series but have some of the poorest displays in mobile. And it's not just recently. I noticed this since the G3. One of the early Quad HD phones but it looked washed out.

The last great display they had on a mobile was on the G2. My G5 and V20 both suffer from ghosting. If gray wallpaper, you can see images from websites. It comes and goes but it gets annoying. My G5 also looks too dim with less vibrancy. That's why I had to blacken it.

The issues with the Pixel 2 XL, I could probably live with that. It's not being recognized on my Mac that I can't live with. Shame the HTC-made Pixel 2 doesn't come in panda and better screen/bezel ratio. HTC has superior displays than LG in mobile the last four years.

Specific details please or it’s all just your opinions without facts.
Google Home is an actual vessel for Google Assistant, a superior AI effort to Apple. HomePod is a music curator for $350. Once Google Home integrates with Sonos (2018), the only thing keeping the HomePod afloat will be iSheep.

Google Play music and Apple Music are essentially the same. GPM has a much better interface (Apple playing major catchup with Apple Music because the first version was a mess).

Google Docs is multi-platform. Pages, Numbers, Keynote (a joke application, honestly) only live on iOS and Mac. I have a mac at home and I love it, but if I need to work on a document at work, Apple has given me no help.

Google Photos is significantly better than Apple's iteration. Apple has done a lot to catch up, but even on iOS, Google Photos is a better photos application than Photos.App.

He's not wrong. The reason to go Pixel is all software and services. For the longest time, the Android benefit was "Hey, you get the best services, but if you don't like ours, make someone else's the default". Now, Android has leapfrogged iOS 11, the services are still better, and Apple has neglected Siri beyond usefulness.

Wow! I really didn’t expect to see the Apple double standard on display at MacRumors!

The written review claims that the Pixel 2XL gets better battery life than the iPhone X. This is complete BS.

Multiple battery life comparisons on the web show the iPhone X beating out the Pixel 2 XL by a wide margin. In the video that accompanies this Mac rumors review, the host clearly states that screen on time with the iPhone X is 2-3 hours longer than the Pixel XL 2.

What gives?

Funny seeing all the false information and assumptions on the pixel 2.

Been running both the regular pixel 2 and the X for a week now. Both are great phones for different reasons. Wish I could have my widgets and different default apps on the X.

The pixel2 is getting lots of praise. Samsung panel too and HTC made.

The pixel2 XL, on the other hand, is very polarizing. And a bad LG panel.

Pixel 2 to Pixel 2 XL is not as consistent as 8 to 8+, they’re two completely different handsets, if thats how you’re thinking about it...

Everytime I even consider switching to Android I always remind myself that the phone I would buy would never see any updates.

Android fragmentation is a disaster.

Tweaked this a bit. The Pixel 2 XL seems to have won out in most battery tests I've seen, but there are some where it's very close or the iPhone X has an edge. Seems to vary a lot.

I'm sorry, but let's recap Pixel 2/XL issues:

  • Grainy LED panel provided by LG, check
  • Burn-in on 2-week old LED green, check
  • Ships with missing accessories in the box, check
  • Ships with NO OPERATING SYSTEM, check
Who's the tester???

I hate trolls...

Trolls? What about the green line issue or the numerous X issues. The display isn’t grainy.

Source? I mean, the Pixel 2 XL (and most modern android flagships) are destroying the iPhone 8+ in battery life (LCD, so probably understandable). I haven't seen any comparisons to the OLED iPhone X.

We're talking about the Pixel, THE android device. It gets all the latest and greatest goodies up until Android R, so... Nice try.

And honestly, it is clear that this is next year's iPhone. The fact that the Pixel 2 holds up so well is a really good sign.

I believe the Pixel2 XL has a significantly larger image sensor so it's low light performance destroys the iPhone's. It it also captures more detail IIRC from doing A/B comparisons of photos from iPhone 8+ and Pixel2XL.

For the price range of iPhones Apple uses the smallest image sensors in the industry.
