Face ID has proven to be largely fast and accurate, making it an improvement over fingerprint sensing technology.

This statement makes little sense, unless you're claiming that Touch ID was either slow or inaccurate... neither of which is true.

It's possible that Face ID is an improvement over Touch ID, but to prove it you'll need different metrics.

I really hope so. I prefer a smaller phone, but I'm tired of getting features cut out.
It's why I voted with my wallet and got a pixel for my business as opposed to an iPhone 8. I am done with having features pulled away because I want a smaller phone.

Though it didn't help that I got an X for my personal phone, but at least it is a full feature phone.

Android battery life is a myth. Only the huge thick Chinese phones are beating the iPhone 8 Plus, and that is only because they have 4,000 mAh batteries, or more. I'm not sure how I can argue with someone who denies reality. Android battery life is great now.

According to actual quantitative tests as by GSM Arena, iPhones of all vintages are at the top of the heap in terms of battery life. See below link. Pixel 2 XL has better battery endurance, per GSM arena, and therefore has better battery life.

In the video of this MacRumors review, the author clearly states that he gets 7-8 hours of screen-on time with the iPhone X and 4-5 hours of screen-on with the Pixel 2XL. So GSMArena, who you praise, says the Pixel 2 XL is better (because it quantitatively is) but now MR is the source du jour. So is Consumer Reports your next source?

I’m getting 8-9 hours of screen-on time with my iPhone X. As I type this on my iPhone X, charge remaining is 16% and screen-on time is 7h20m. Send yourself a fireworks iMessage for me.

My comments in bold. You really haven't made a legit argument to your point.

Not even in the same universe.

Just look at the phones.
I see a large notch in one and a $200 price difference. What else did I miss?

I stopped by Apple in Williamsburg yesterday and the X feels amazing in the hand. It feels more like what 6 felt like more than the 7 Plus. The keyboard is also slightly smaller. The screen quality is gorgeous as expected. The speed and responsiveness are the same as the already excellent 8 Plus. Pulling up the multitasking screen took some getting used to and it is less intuitive having to press x on every app instead of sliding up but it's not a big deal. At this moment I just don't feel like it offers any significant real life speed improvements over my 7 Plus. There aren't any X exclusive apps that I would use either so the experience as long you have iOS 11 on a 7 is for the most part very similar. I don't have a 4K set (waiting for top quality 65" OLEDs to drop further), so I wouldn't benefit from shooting video in 4K/60. I could archive it on my tMBP but I still think 1080/60 is good enough for now. Really the only features I would really love to use are the Portrait Lighting and front facing camera portrait mode. I've taken some killer shots with portrait mode on the 7 Plus that everyone thought were studio shots. With the right lighting and composition it's really that good but it's even better on the 8 Plus and X.

However I will be buying the Xs/XI or whatever they call the 2nd gen X next year along with the corresponding button-less iPad Pro. Really glad I didn't pick one up either when a superior one isn't that far away. Hopefully they can do something about the notch which is a little bit distracting. I really would prefer that they would keep it black just with the "menu bar" the second you leave the home screen. Ive has already hinted that it's just a temporary solution. Bottom line: If you have a regular 7 or any older phone regular or plus and can afford it, I would order it asap. It's really the biggest change since the transition from the 5s to the 6 Plus and indisputably the best phone on the market.

It is pretty amazing what Google can do with software. Their OIS replacement was pretty good, but their single lens portrait mode is on par if not better than iPhone's dual lens.

Yea, it seems like they got a little “magic” when it comes to the single lens camera. From the comparison videos I’ve seen the front facing camera portrait mode is better than Apple’s at the present moment.

Thanks for fixing the written review to reflect the battery life observations from the video.

However, you state in the article the the iPhone X does better “in some tests”.

I have yet to see a single test that demonstrates superior battery life from the PIXEL 2XL.

Why hedge? The iPhone X has better battery life than the Pixel 2XL.

They're not done yet either. They'll be doing a lot more with the camera when they enable their custom camera chip in the 8.1 update.

Specific details please or it’s all just your opinions without facts.
Sure. It's general knowledge that Google Assistant is a much better product than Siri. It understands more, can do more, and integrates with more 3rd party tings. The Google Home/Assistant ecosystem is huge and the entry point is $49. It's a great little device. Heck, Chromecast is better than AirPlay.

Google Docs is much better than iWork - can do more, is a business standard (GSuite), and has more functionality.

Google Photos has slightly more features.

I've used both Android and iOS and Android just feels like it can do more. It has a little more care and feeding but works great.

There’s no logic that I can understand why one would pay such premium for an Android phone.
For the Pixel, you’re paying premium price, but
- you’re still sacrificing your privacy
- only 2 year of OS updates and 3 year of security updates from its release date. Even Xiaomi supports their cheap phones longer than that
- no physical store you can go to to get support
- no support outside the country you bought it from
- performs worse than a cheaper OnePlus 5

If Android is a must for you, Xiaomi Mi A1 runs stock Android, has same OS support as Pixel, at less than half the price. Want top performance? OnePlus 5. Want premium? Even a Samsung S8 is better than the Pixel (better screen, IP68, headphone jack).

Google is really trolling the their fanboys with the Pixel, and ask for a lot of money at the same time.

This comparison is pointless due to Pixel phone has no future. Why? because Google is banned from China. That means they lost 1 billion of potential buyers. Assuming Google spent as much R&D money compare to Apple & Samung, they just don't have the global market reach to boost up the sales. When there is not enough sales for a product, the end will come soon.

This guy acting as if android is stable

iOS 11 has been a bit buggy for some but not all. And I’d much rather have a slightly buggy device than one where I’m being sold it’s not even a comparison.
I am not saying Android is stable. All I am saying is you all bash Android for small issues. But when it comes to Apple, we should just accept it. You all trash pixel 2 xl for bad display where as iPhone X already showing unresponsiveness and green line on the display. pixel2xl single camera is better than dual camera of ios. So tell me where is apple better than Android. Definitely not like the way you all potray it.
Trust me, I have all sorts of Apple devices. But I try to keep an open mind and give where the credit is due.

The Pixel isn't banned in China and people are able to use it fine over there. But due to the Great Firewall of China, some Google services can only be accessed via VPN. The same is true if using Google services on an iPhone or any device for that matter. You don't need to blatantly lie to get a point across.

Do they really? Cause that's news to most. It's known that most low end Android manufacturers are not known for updates.

- no physical store you can go to to get support
Is that really a thing? Had smartphones since the Treo 650. Don't remember ever going to a store for support.

- no support outside the country you bought it from
Not needed for most.

OP 5 is a joke. It's the "Settle Phone"/

Been digging the Axon 7 since March - $399, very speedy, competent, HiFi DAC, QHD OLED, great speakers, and ZTE has been good with the updates.

You all are missing something simple here. Google is not a phone company, nor it wants to be. It just provided another option in the market. Tomorrow if pixel line is shutdown, Google's profit won't decrease because their money making machine is search and ad. You can't say the same thing for Apple.

There is no question that X is a striking design. While it's not my personal style, I can certainly acknowledge that it has a great wow factor. The big problem for me is that X is a replacement for the smaller iPhone, not the Plus. Actual usable area is nowhere near as big as the 7 Plus that I got rid of last month. That's an automatic no-no for me, as my phone has become my ebook reader, my tablet, AND my phone. X is just too small for that.

I owned the 2 XL for a week, before I returned it for Note 8. Unfortunately the screen on the Pixel was just too much of a compromise for a $950 phone (128Gb version), and it is certainly a lot more plain looking. For now, I'm really enjoying the Note 8, but I do hope that 2018 brings us a proper Plus upgrade from Apple.

These phones aren't even on the same planet, for me personally.

The Pixel has an excellent camera but:
  • Mostly Plastic
  • Has Huge Bezels
  • An inferior OLED from LG. Color shift. Burn in.
  • Less premium build quality
  • Generally Ugly
  • No wireless charging.
  • Removed headphone jack after making fun of Apple...loses all credibility

Yeah. Google's blowing it and that makes me sad. They know exactly what the competition offers, have unlimited resources, and can't pull it off.

We really need more competition in this space.
