Since when is the jack outdated? Since Apple removed it? The jack is a worldwide accepted connector.

I would say it's not so much outdated, as it is redundant. There's really no reason for modern consumer devices to have a single function port taking up space on a mobile device, which is starved for space. So in that sense it is outdated.

My beef is not so much about removing the jack, but removing it without a a complete solution to replace it.

IMO, the adapter was a much better thing to include in the box than a pair of Lightning EarPods which literally can't be used with any other device, including Apple's own Mac.

Since the headphone jack was removed from the iPhone with the launch of the iPhone 7, Apple has bundled iPhones with a Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter for customers who continue to have 3.5mm headphones.

With the launch of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, Apple is discontinuing this practice and will not include the Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter.

On the "In the Box" section of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR tech specs, no adapter is listed. The three devices will ship with EarPods with Lightning Connector, a Lightning to USB Cable, and a USB Power Adapter.

Apple's new iPhone lineup also marks the discontinuation of the iPhone 6s and the iPhone SE, the last two iPhones that Apple sold with a headphone jack.

None of the headphones in the new lineup, which includes the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone 8, and iPhone 7, have a headphone jack.

Apple is continuing to sell the Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter separately for $9.

I must have lucked out. I ordered a new iPhone 8 gold from Apple around Oct 15 and it included the adapter. My iPhone XR didn't have one though.

My daughter ordered an iPhone 8 as well and it included the adapter. I think some of the products in inventory still had them.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next year's iPhone didn't come with a charger, either. But you can buy the AirPower for only $299! That's practically nothing!

This 3.5mm to lightning adapter is still one of most popular items at Best Buy, ironically apple EarPods topped the list. Obviously a lot of iPhone owners still have decent 3.5mm wired headphones that they do not want to give up, two years later.
I guess there's no use complaining, eventually things will change and Apple are certainly not going to put the headphone jack back. My adapter lives on the end of a set of Bose QC20s that I don't fancy giving up right now. Oh yes, I do own EarPods and I love watching Netflix on my apple tv with them on, but I find I have too many apple adapters/dongles and it's a tad annoying.

You mean you have AirPods for your ATV?

The main problem now is that if you buy a new iPadPro, you’ll need the Lightning/3.5 adapter for your iPhone, a USB-C/3.5 adapter for your MBP, and no adaptor for your Mac, and the AirPods only for your AppleWatch.
