I get along fine without it. Thanks. If you need one, buy one. Simple.
You're missing the point.

It is not as if workable and useable headphones were not included in the box.
Why was it unnecessary? Perhaps you want the earphones of your choice?
Oh you "have etc etc", that makes it OK for Apple to do this, because you have a certain type of earphones? how about those that don't?
You're missing the point. Lets say you have great, fantastic ear phones that will last you the rest of your life. Apple doesn't support them anymore; there a great company yes? (or no)Because there are plenty of alternatives at all price points, including high-end headphones for audiophiles.
But regardless the adapter is still available for $9 and they include Lightning EarPods for those that don’t really care about what they listen with.

Nope. Not defending Apple at all. See my above posts about giving your business to companies who provide what you want. Don't like Apple's value proposition, pick another company that does.
Classic American exceptionalism vis a vis capitalism. You ignore the point and then gesture to the free market, meanwhile betraying your understanding as facile and glib.
The thing is the 3.5mm jack has lasted close to hundred years, and guessing a hundred more after we die. None of those things you mentioed lasted after a decade or so.Let's say you had a great 8-track player in your car. Let's say you had a great cassette player. Let's say you had a great VHS player. Let's say you had great apps that ran in OS9 (Apple Works) that are no longer supported. . . technology changes.
Holy smokes! That was sure a big bowl of nothing. Not surprised.
Most greediest company ever. I wish Steve Jobs was still here.Apple isn't the same anymore. It was once unique and stood out, but now they're like any other tech companies. Money has taken over as their top priority. Such a shame.
Here come the inane comments from people using 1950s technology.
Fast chargers are cool but degrade the battery faster, and the majority of people aren’t using USB-C yet. They’ll make the transition eventually.
Good. If I need one, I can buy one.
...and of course the Apple devotees will excuse this.
They will come up with some reason why this is best for us all.
Yeah, I still laugh at people who use the wheel. Thats aincient tech. Morons.
P.s. Loving the irony of your post.
I won't be paying a cent extra. It's unneeded. It comes with headphones that work perfectly and I have several wireless models I can also use. Why would I want to legacy dongle? it's waste for most people. But it gives the negative nellies and apple haters something to crow about
I have never used the adapter to begin with. I use bluetooth headphones and audio connections in my vehicle. Apple is not being greedy. They know a large number of people don't use the adapter and end up throwing them away or they get lost. It is being environmentally responsible by reducing plastic. The pice for the adapter is well below any of their other accessories. More and more phone manufacturers are doing this now. We did it to ourselves by wanting thinner phones and more battery life. Realestate on the phone is extremely limited....you have to give up something to get something. I would take stereo speakers on my phone any day like they have then have a silly outdated jack.
Good. Just more junk for me to throw in the landfill. Have a pile of the stupid things sitting around with no use for them.
An iPhone is not a good listening device either way, but I use my iPhone SE as a backup when my iPod Nano goes out of power and surely I won't carry around an adapter just for that. Usually only attach earbuds to the iPhone when having a long talk (typically at work). Also Apple doesn't produce any good hearing devices anyway (for music). There are other solutions however, but believe my old equipment are superior to any bluetooth or lightening devices yet out there, so iPod Nano for me. I buy a new iPhone any day they have a new one lighter than 150 grams, no bigger than iPhone SE, no slippery rounded edges, and a better camera, with an old headphone jak, but until then cannot see why one should spend money for mostly useless features added.
You have no use so it’s stupid? Great logic. I love self obsessed people. Lol
Except that's precisely what you did, and you just did it again. Thanks for confirming my point lol - have a nice day.
Ya I mean who doesn’t like to pay more for less and if we need one we’ll just pay extra on top of that lol. How anyone can say “good” is beyond me. Even if you don’t use it you can surely see why some do.
