I'm pretty sure it will be wireless charging.. So its the same as laying your watch on your nightstand at night while you sleep. Meanwhile it will charge and sync your data with your iMac as the iPhone does now.

so if i stay away overnight , at a hotel or such for work, or go on holiday i have to remember to take my watchs charging station with me...no thanks, unless an iWatch lasts at least a month between charges its just not a feasable purchase, ill stick with my Casio watch, its good on a single battery for over a year, and works underwater too.

Solar?

can't wait to have to charge my watch every day.

I had a watch that had tiny solar panels around the edges that kept my watch running. Granted they might not be able to power a full iOS device but they could keep running a power-saving "Watch Only" mode.

Dear Apple,

We don't need new category-defining products, we just need you to update the iPhone and iOS to offer features comparable to your competition. Is that asking too much? No iWatch. No iTV. Just give us a better iOS experience across multiple devices that actually works the way that we do. Also, can you give us a bigger screen please?

Instead of improving their core products, they want to spread themselves thinner. Yah, great idea...

Up until now I have not given a whole lot of credence to these rumors. But now that I see what Google is doing with Glass, it makes a little more sense. Both companies are racing to be the maker of the next device that you carry on your body in some form or other.

Me, I'm holding out for a Babel fish.

Battery life is an issue in all Apple´s devices.

Battery life is an issue with all portable devices.

Android device makers are no better in dealing with the simple reality that battery technology has not kept pace with the increasing power demands of mobile computing hardware.

Currently the Samsung strategy is to slap on ever bigger screens on ever bigger phones to "improve" battery life. It's not a bad idea, as clearly there is market for bigger phones; but sooner or later this strategy will stop working when we have to start buying different pants so we can still pocket our Phablets. :D

I remember when this site was about iPhones and iPads, not these kiddy iWatch toys. What has happened to Apple?

You do realize that Apple (AAPL) has absolutely nothing to do with the content on this site right?

True. Apple is at freefall.

If this really is what Apple is referring to when talking about their next big thing, then I think this will be a huge embarrassment for them.

Related: as I was typing this I hit the "sell" button to take my profits on 500 shares of AAPL. Will sell the other half of my shares at $400 and not look back. Recently went long on GOOG instead.

Do people still wear watches? With everyone running around with smartphones, I see this as heading in the direction of a downsizing market.

I remember when this site was about Apple computers...:(

That was back when they only made computers. If they had stayed that way, they'd most likely be in trouble like just about every other computer manufacturer. They're looking to the future.

I could see this being a cool watch to have. If the interface is done right. Would be really cool to see Google Maps on your wrist so you don't have to pull out your phone to look up where you are and where your going all the time. Also if you could run spotify on it so when your driving your car to work you can access everything on your wrist and keep your phone in your pocket. Same goes for getting text messages, so you can quickly glance at them and maybe reply back with siri. Of course as you might have noticed I mentioned 2 apps that probably won't integrate with the watch, at least not to the point that would make them useful, as I can't imagine typing in an address, it would need siri integration. Apple won't be opening that up to other apps anytime soon. Same with spotify, could really use siri integration.. But until Apple decides to open its doors some with regards to Siri I can't see this watch ever being good enough. Not to mention battery life really is crucial.

I charge my iPhone every night. I wouldn't mind having to charge a watch everyday too.

Which makes we wonder why we haven't seen Apple, Google, or Samsung poor tons of money into battery research. The DOE recently rewarded 120 million for research Link 120 million is nothing to these companies. Why haven't they pursued the same level of investment?

Still not buying this.

Either figuratively or literally.

The device that solves the problem of how to look at your phone, without all the tiresome nonsense of actually pulling out your phone is not a good enough reason to buy another device.

Especially when that means.
1) A 1" screen
2) Another device to charge.

These rumor-mills are a-churnin. But would much rather get a hint of a product which solves a more universal need.

can't wait to have to charge my watch every day.
I don't get why this is a big deal? I charge my phone 2-3 times a day. I'm used to battery management.

Is a potential iWatch the kind of thing no one realized they had to have?...
I'm not sure either? lol. I guess it could be. What I want is for apple to make a Pebble that runs iOS lite, and has a mic/speaker. While being waterproof.

So much skepticism. It may be warranted but then maybe not.

I don't think any of us knows how this will work out until there are products in the marketplace to try and fit into our everyday lives.

As someone said earlier on, wearable computing is coming. A watch is an obvious place to start. I think it could potentially be neat. I certainly wouldn't tell Apple not to proceed with a new unproven product. How else does innovation happen?

I seem to recall most people on this forum saying the iPad Mini would be a failure.

It may not be for everyone, but also that's assuming that the purpose of iWatch just is a direct replacement for regular watches (to tell time)... which I'm pretty sure telling time not going to be the compelling feature and that it may redefine the category just as smartphones did with cell phones.

Part of the questions are also going to be how it's going to be charged too, and what the 'standby' time is going to be. What is the charging station going to be? Is that the only way to charge it? Is the standby time to keep certain functions available, like telling time, going to be much longer (weeks between charges) than other functions, like active communication (days between charges)?

These are engineering trade-offs that Apple will/may set the pace and expectations to which competition often deliver against.

Babel Fish>Abbel Fish>Abble Fish>Apple Fish

Great Scott!!!

I think this would rock if it acts as an extension of the security of the phone. Like a key that allows fast access to bypassing security if the watch is nearby. Walk away and the device is locked. Pick it up and it simply is working. Tied into various bio-metrics, and this could be a very cool device for all sorts of things from faster access to highly secure mobile payments.

Could I safely assume you've watched on too many occasions 2001 A Space Odyssey or Star Wars? ;)

It looks like something Dick Tracy would use. I know people were skeptical about the success of the iPad, and that became a hit, but I really think the iWatch is going to flop big time.

We stopped wearing watches for a reason

Why does Apple think everyone stopped wearing watches? It's because we didn't need them anymore! THis whole iWatch concept is just a pager that you wear around your wrist that can do a few more basic things. It's not going to replace your smart phone as it's not suppose to. It doesn't do anything better than my phone and isn't any more convenient. Google Glass is much more convenient because you don't have to move. Just look over and you're done.

We stopped wearing watches for a reason!

I do a lot of work with sensors and I would think a good way to reduce battery life would be to collect data without processing it for periods of time depending on the application. In addition to that, 90% of what iOS does in an iPhone can be left there if the user has both and they synch on events, like a voice or button request. If iWatch were asleep 98% of the time the battery would last longer. Most of the watches I have had the light was optionally on.

I see the iWatch as an interface for voice activations, a NFC alternative scheme, and a notifications screen. I see it as a way to keep the iPhone in your pocket. I see it as something similar also to a bluetooth ear piece.
