Like the iPad delay rumors, Steve death watch, and various other ******** stories, this smells like an attempt at market manipulation. Looks like some hedge funds placed a few shorts and want to cash in.

Guys do you really think they don't know how to work remotely with Facetime and all this stuff?? This is just a public for Ive to leave. This is all around the next CEO decision.

I've can easily be replaced. Some of Apples greatest failures can be traced directly to his obsession with design over function. The guy has been there 20 odd years it is time for fresh blood.

1. If the Guy wants to come back here to the Uk what's the issue!? It's easy to work anywhere now? Even the travel

2. Yup I can I see him as the spiritual sucessor to Steve. A visionary rather than a number Cruncher.

BUT 3 and most importantly 3

PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING IN THE BRITISH PRESS! Whilst the Times part possibly may hold some credence. The Mail is the most evil publication on the face of this planet. Nothing in it is anyway true

for example...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-dignity-Muslims-council-blacked-windows.html

and the truth...

The curtains that were there went mouldy. they were removed leaving clear glass - so complaints were made.

"A spokeswoman for Walsall Council said the complaints had predominantly come from the Muslim community but that non-Muslim women had also objected."

So they put frosted film that past 95% light... as opposed to the curtains that passed.....zero.

So the Mail managed to make story where SOME women of DIFFERENT Denominations want the same thing... sound like a Racism problem...

BTW - I am a Caucasian 37 year old guy. Mail = Evil

Hes a lot more valuable than Steve Jobs, I would think they would offer him anything possible to get him to stay. He was the one who saved Apple, Jobs just made the decision to allow him to save Apple while the rest of the executives thought style and trend was unimportant.

I'm pretty sure you just unintentionally explained why Steve Jobs is actually more valuable than Jonny Ive.

The two best events that would benefit Apple _NOW_

He & Steve retire.

Apple then moves into a position of competing on a level playing field with their products, not Styling & BS Marketing.

Well no... About 50 design classics and The apple Cube.... Which looks great but was niche.

Don't laugh - remember the Scully years? (Macs that looked like business machines...)

Ive started working at Apple during the Scully years. ;)

He's been at Apple for nearly 19 years and made his fortune so it's understandable he may be considering returning home to raise his family. I'm sure Apple have got someone waiting in the wings itching to take over his job if he does decide to come back to the UK.

Guys,

The head of Bang & Olufsen's design unit is a Brit and he has his own company and own design centre. Sure he goes over to Denmark, to the B&O HQ from time to time, but most of the design work is done from his own team in his UK office.

Ive could do the same thing. Simply have a design centre in the UK and head over to the States for a few days every month.

There's absolutely no way Apple would allow Ive to leave for a rival company nor lose someone of that talent.

My assumption is exactly what others have been saying, that Jobs is, sadly, on his way out and various people at Apple have jostling, internally, to take the CEO position. Tim Cook is likely to be the natural choice (as he's stood in for Jobs on numerous occasions), but others at Apple, and most likely Ive himself, believe Ive is better positioned to take company forward.

I'd bet Ive spends more time with Jobs than anyone at Apple. Ive probably has more of an insight in to Jobs' mind than anyone else.

Your comparing someone who designs plastic moulds for other peoples equipment to someone who designs things from the nut and bolts through to the finished product?

So you're saying Steve was replaceable this last decade when Apple magically went from disaster to a ridiculously successful company? And the man who was key in designing a revolutionary phone like the iPhone and then the iPad and not to mention the iPod is clearly easily replaced. Maybe there are people somewhere in the world that could have replaced this, but the odds of finding them are not very good. They need to keep him, especially if Steve isn't going to be running the company in the near future.

exactly, and if key people at apple are replaceable, then why haven't other companies found them, why arent other companies setting the standard? its funny how people say, you can remove the head, the heart, the soul and still end up with the same entity. sounds more like a frankenstein to me.

all you have to do is look at their competitors and see that its the vision, the determination, the ridiculous chase of perfection.

That being said, Jobs will do alright without Ives. Its Jobs direction that has built, then rebuilt apple. funny how people see that as replaceable, i mean look at history, we already tried that.

Now is the time

This is why apple has kept $51 billion in cash and investments. Thats really a paycheck Jony can't refuse.

btw. his name is spelled Jony Ive in the new MacBookPro video on apple.com, It's so very modern.:apple::apple:

What a storm in a tea cup...

Numerous corporates operate with different teams in different countries..why should Apple be different. If the man would be happier and more creative in the UK ...to the benefit of Apple Inc, then what is the issue ?

Sometimes, I have serious doubts about this discussion board. Ive is Apple to the core, so why is it assumed he'll land in the UK and suddenly become something else. What is wrong with a UK design team for Apple anyway?

Apple has spent most of its recent development effort helping people to communicate and integrate globally. So why can't they do it themselves?

Maybe we should just all settle down and stop panicking and be a little rational here.

These are rumors that are started by people who want to short the stock. The stock goes down on the bad news and they make their money.
It's done all the time. Then Johnny will come out and say this is not true and the stock will go back up but not until the SHORTS have made their profits.

Ive designs have looked great and helped sell products.

If you think the cube was a design great you are sadly misguided. It was a failure.

As the poster you quoted stated, Ive considered form over function almost every time.

I think this is a daft statement. Have you seen the design process for the speakers and other products?

Just because the TVs uses a Samsung LCD - just like the iPhone and iPad - it doesn't been that the rest of the products are from other people. Do some research.

Besides, nothing like Apple using Intel chips and other components then, is it?

You've obviously never arranged tele-conferences for a team that's in Reading, DC, Salt Lake City, Silicon Valley, Sydney, Hong Kong and Bangalore. You have to rotate the times, since whatever hour you choose someone should be at home with family or asleep.

Oh no! It can't be done!

end sarcasm...

Damn, I wish I hadn't missed the source. If it's from the Mail, I've just wasted time reading six pages of comments… No worries then! :D

Solution to the Ive Problem

Why don't they just give him a free MobileMe account? He could 'cloud commute'.

Makes sense to me, a virtual presence is simply not the same as actually being there.

Who knows what his/ the teams 'creative' process is like.

You said you agreed w/the board's position of not letting Ive spend more time back in his home country because "...a virtual presence is simply not the same as actually being there."

Is that not stating your thoughts on the matter?

Lethal

The term 'makes sense' implies, IMO, an understanding of a concept, idea, thought, etc... not necessarily agreement or support.

Now this I could believe !!! and if true, I hope the people of indeterminate parenthood get burned. :D

Real show of intelligence.

As the poster you quoted stated, Ive considered form over function almost every time.

Well I'll stack my own 14 Design awards and £22 million in sales against whatever you have to say I am afraid. and Ive's 40 Billion! for that matter - And as I stated, The Cube was the one of the ONLY failures. At the time it was incredible. G3 power in something the size of 2 bags of sugar at a time when every other PC was a big Beige box.

Form is and can be as important as function. If you don't understand that then you too are an idiot.
