I read stuff like this,

And I have to wonder, how effed would Apple be if something happened to Jony? I'm sure they have enough in the pipeline so they would be alright in the short term, but in the long term I wonder what kind of impact his departure would have.

So, you want Ive to lose his Job? You think that would be good for Apple?

I was both kidding and serious. After such design decisions in software and hardware someone should be fired. Actually that should be Cook, since Jobs was a successful filter for Ive's creativity, while Cook is definitely not.

You're arguing just to argue...you know what I meant - (Edit, I guess you didn't know what I meant). They (Stylus sold from any company) are available to be purchased. Just because Apple didn't make them doesn't mean they (Craig and John) can't use them. I'm pretty sure Apple didn't make the notebooks they (Craig and John) are using either.

You don't get it, This is Ive & Craig, not 2 random dudes... They create iOS software & hardware and the official philosophy of apple is that you don't need a stylus for their products. If any one of them is seen w/ a stylus in a device they created, they would be called hypocrites. There are no official stylus period.

No, they=apple. his answer was a reply to mine so read.

I read it the opposite way. I guess it's an English thing. Maybe poor usage.

Take this here:

Toyota makes cars. They also make fuzzy dice for Toyota cars.

To me, the 'they' does not necessarily mean Toyota is the one making fuzzy dice, but I can see how you can interpret it this way. To me, the 'they' means ANYONE.

Quite the contrary, in fact, I feel they are downplaying his departure and change of philosophy, and they raise good points. 6 years ago people were not so sure about the touch screen, so the keyboard had to look like a keyboard, a button had to look like a button which justifies his direction.

Now it's standard, so they get license to skip real-world resemblence.

Yeah I was referring to the picture (not that clear sorry)

yeah...but didn't iOS become so big and loved over years under Forstall leadership?

You're welcome to petition your local government to name a school after him. Or maybe start a campaign for him to receive a honorary degree from Berkeley and give a commencement speech.

Or being the beloved man he is, you could name your child after him. That works too.

Teasing future products from Apple, Ive notes that he would "love, love, love" to reveal what he and his design team have been working on, but that he would lose his job if he did.

Oh, please, reveal then.

You don't deserve opinions.

Funny how they've spent all summer talking about how bad skeumorphism is. When I first saw the iOS 7 preview the first thing that came to my mind was if it's so bad why did they add etched glass looking panels all over iOS 7? I don't think it is an improvement over what we already had, just different and in some cases worse because it is harder to see.

Look, they are digging out of a HUGE hole left for them by Forstall. The skeumorphism hasn't gotten enough criticism, it is truly hideous. Even over the summer through the various dev releases, iOS7 has gotten better and better. It will take time to get it where they are comfortable. After using iOS7 for months, looking at iOS6 screens literally makes me sick.

Unfortunately since Forstall has let Android and MS catch up over 5 yrs, they don't have the luxury of waiting till it's perfected.

I think Jobs shares some of this blame. A lot of what Forstall did was probably at the request of Jobs. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if one of the reasons Forstall is gone is because he was obsessed with what Steve would have done/wanted whereas the rest of the executive team was ready to move on.

Apple's Jony Ive and Craig Federighi Discuss Their Design and Engineering Par...

Oh really?! Then ask yourself why they have content creation apps like sketchbook pro for artists? I'm a professional and I do NOT finger paint.

I require a stylus. That makes Apple or Steve a hypocrite. After all it was he who ran Pixar in the old days. Pixar artists do NOT finger paint.

Steve blew it as he likes to huff and puff for no reason. He changes his mind like a girl. Seriously.

"Oh we're not in the tablet business. Not our thing.", he once said.

Guess what? They did the iPad. He should've "manned up" and said " yeah. We're looking into it. No comment". He did admit AFTER they decided to do something about the tablet market.

So, in that sense, styluses are far more useful than a finger when it comes to writing and precision point control.

federighi, this is why apple is doomed

No way. I love this guy being part of the Apple elite executives and I hope he remains at Apple's helm for as long as he can. I think his directions for both iOS 7 and OS X have all been fantastic so far.

When we sat down last November (to work on iOS 7)...

Okay this is a bit cheeky of them. No, Forstall got fired last November. What they really mean is, they scrapped the skeuomorphic version of iOS7 Forstall's team was working on and started from scratch.

I mean, I already assumed this, but it really explains why iOS7 has been so rough around the edges. There must be a lot of burned-out Apple employees who worked massively to get it done on time.

iOS 7 is such a mess. I can't wait until the Nexus 5 comes out so I don't have to completely lose my butt on the investment in this iPhone 5. I mean, really? This is the biggest Fisher Price looking POS ever. iMessage and Mail are are so bad. You can't even swipe to delete or edit. I'm moving on and moving forward....

A design that's less specific!? Really? I'd rather know specifically where the button is. I'd rather have borders to differentiate between elements. I just don't like "Flat" I guess.

I agree 100%. This "flat" trend is just that: trendy. It'll pass, hopefully sooner rather than later.

He also said no one read books anymore. :p

I love the new look but definitely to each their own.

And in Mail, swipe right to left to delete.

I like the direction Apple is headed in terms of software and hardware: iOS 7 seems really solid and fresh; I tried iTunes Radio last night and really think it is a great free service (especially when setting a station to "discovery"); OS X Server is way better than the Lion version under Jobs's watch; Apple continues to support Snow Leopard users with security updates and Java (Jobs probably would have buried it a long time ago); I am excited about the new Mac Pro (I think we will be getting at least one at work); The new MacBooks (Airs/Pros) are great, and I am glad Apple is still offering the MacBook Pro non-Retina for now; The new lower cost iPhone 5c seems like a solid device, repalcing the need to buy the old model for those not wanting to purchase the iPhone 5s; and there are lots of other things I could list here.

I think the entire senior leadership team has done a great job. I do hope that Apple will do something major with the Apple TV soon, though. I am not as big on a watch, but apparently some people think that is the next big thing. They are probably right, and I am probably wrong... I was wrong about the original iPod! ;)

World class talent.

WHAT???

It might be me but seriously I think people give far too much credit to Jony, I can't spell my name right, Ive.

Some people on here think he's the second coming and that he single handedly designs the whole damned interface and hardware. Much as I don't work at Apple and give them credit for some fantastic looking devices, I wouldn't mind betting that the vast majority of those things we see come from a team, (there's no I've in team), of people and that he just gives the final sign off.
