I still have my "desk lamp" iMac on the upper level of my desk because it's like a pet scuplture. I wish I could have a MacMini inside and an upgraded screen so I could go back to using it.

Grade II Listing

Just in Case you were wondering, WikiP. sez:

In England and Wales the authority for listing is granted by the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 and is presently administered by English Heritage, an agency of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and Cadw in Wales (where it is a devolved issue). Listed buildings in danger of decay are listed on English Heritage's Buildings at Risk Register.
There are three types of listed status:

Grade I: buildings "of exceptional interest, sometimes considered to be internationally important".
Grade II*: "particularly important buildings of more than special interest".
Grade II: buildings that are "nationally important and of special interest".[8]

...and there are four grammatical errors in your short poke at the Daily Mail. Accuracy is harder to achieve than you suppose, eh?

I typed that from my phone whilst taking my lunch break. Slightly different than a journalist proof reading an article for a major UK newspaper. EH?

Ive turned Apple products into a thing of beauty. He basically put the beauty, awe and wow factor into Apple and is largely (if not mostly) responsible for Apple's success during the last decade. Jobs is a great man, no doubt (I mean he's done great things) but Ive is legendary.

My take, if Jobs died or left Apple they would continue as they currently are after an initial shock period. If Ive left however, Apple would be dead.

Think about it. He pretty much CREATED the iMac. The very first one was his design and he's been designing them ever since. Same with the iPod. Same with the iPhone. Same with the iPad. All his designs. Even the current Mac pros. Now, before Ive I would have said Apple computers were pretty plain. The only thing that really stood out was their OS. Since Ive, I'd say every little piece of an Apple computer contains the wow factor it all just works flawlessly well together.

Ive seriously doesn't get the credit he deserves. It's always Jobs people talk about, but Ive is the TRUE mastermind behind Apple imo.

There are very few CEO's with good taste, which leads to hiring bad designers, which results in crappy products. Ive is very important, but I do think someone could take his place. A good CEO is more difficult to find than a good designer.

Apple is not a single person (be it Jobs or Ive). Apple is a mindset - shared by both the company and its customers - that design matters. This is what other companies just don't get. They want to sell you on specs or sell you on price, but buyers are finally starting to see that there's more to a truly great product than those two measurable quantities.

As long as Apple customers keep demanding stellar design and Apple keeps generating it, the company will succeed for a very, very long time. No matter who is at the helm or running the design shop.

he's absolutely a creative guy

Overheard at the inner sanctum:

Jony to SJ: What do you want the next iphone to look like?

Steve: See this block of aluminum/aluminium (Please pick:)

Jony: Yes?

Steve: Just cut, chip, drill and file everything away that doesn't look like an iphone!

Jony: Done!

No, it's not really about the CEO's taste at all. It's about recognizing that design is important and devoting sufficient resources to implementing the design, starting very early in the process.

It's not that Michael Dell can't tell the difference between an Inspiron laptop and a MBA; it's that he doesn't think that the difference really matters and so doesn't devote real resources to doing anything other than trying to pretty up the laptop after the fact.

As talented as Ive and his team undoubtedly are, I'm sure the one area of many that SJ micro manages to the nth degree is in hardware design.

Every time i see 'Jony Ive' in print, I read it as Joany Ive and while I'm on this, why is KD Lang so shrill about lower case?

A former mullet owner designed your Mac/iPhone/iPad/iPod. :D

I could of swore that was Bone circa "War"

I'm glad Apple allows someone like Ive's to spsnd months designing a stand that looks so good because it resembles a sun flower stalk. I think more companies should spend resources the same way. HP or Dell laptops and desktops may be cheaper but they look awful compared to Apple products.

No doubt how important this guy is to Apple. I'm glad to hear the rumors of his departure are false. Though i will say, my friends and I constantly imitate his advertising/promo videos describing somewhat ordinary features in an over the top way. Its just too easy...

[in English accent]
"When we designed the iPad box, our goal was to not only hold the iPad, but also the cords and written materials. And what we've achieved here is nothing short of revolutionary. With pinpoint precision, we crafted a box with 90 degree angles at EVERY corner. The top slides off with ease and is printed with a new retina ink invented specifically for this application. There is no other box like it in the universe. This modern, sophisticated design allows for an unbelievable experience when unboxing your new iPad. We may not have created the first box, but we were the first to perfect it."

bored?

That just how english people pronounce it.

That's just the correct way of pronouncing it. Lol at those having a go at those who actually speak the genuine English language from the uk where it was created. I find Jono's English very soothing like listening to Mozart in some ways.

I wish Americans would stop telling the English how to speak English

I bet he says "Zed" too :D

I wish Americans would pronounce correctly the following:

Tomato, Jaguar, Missile AND of course Aluminium...

Considering the Jaguar is an animal only found in the Americas and is named such through phoenetic translation from Tupinamba to Portuguese, I would venture to say we have the correct pronunciation.

The element was originally called "alumium" then changed to "aluminum" and finally to "aluminium" by the British scientific aristocracy to make it sound fancier.

Our "Zee" pronunciation instead of "Zed" is a dialect of English that was used in the UK but died out, while taking root in the colonies.

Now about "schedule", "boot", "bonnet", "lift", "lorrie", and "petrol".... ;)
