I ditched my keys and now only carry the physical Apple Card with me for the smell chance a place doesn’t accept Apple Pay. You can ditch keys right now if you’d like. If only Apple can get Walmart to accept Apple Pay, I’d be golden.
My Range Rover Sport (2018) needs keys. I plan on getting a Rivian soon so should be able to go keyless.

Please reread my post with emphasis on the part where I said I do not think Apple would do this (a feature that requires handing over an unlocked phone).
Cheers…
I just replied to your statement but saw the same argument over and over. It wasn’t a dig at you. I should have done my own post. Sorry about that.

Um... while I admit it has been some time since I got pulled over, but I recall they always took my ID back to their car.

This idea that every cop will have some wireless tech that allows them to accept the info without taking your device is unrealistic.
This is true. While it’s cool to have a digital ID in the Apple Wallet for many reasons, it’s clearly best to always have your physical ID on you when driving.

View attachment 1799146Apple is late to the game here. Hell, we even beat the entire state of California to it. I am excited for the Apple wallet integration however. It’ll be nice to not have to hunt for this app.

I saw this 3rd party DL app and thought “that would be a good way to give a crooked app developer my DL info … no way in hell any app gets my DL if it’s not the state dmv app or Apple wallet.”

What could possibly go wrong?
Did they think this all the way through?
When Apple is last to the party, everyone whines and complains that they haven't gotten on board with something.
When they're early, everyone complains that it isn't ready or really usable in the world.

I can't imagine a world where I get pulled over by a cop and then hand them my unlocked iPhone. Ditto for going through a TSA line. I sincerely hope they're thinking much beyond that type of interaction. Hopefully something NFC based.
TSA doesn’t touch your phone even with mobile boarding passes. I doubt much will change.

police will just have to have scanners to verify your ID. No one is walking your phone back to the car.

Didn’t something get mentioned about workplace ID NFC cards being able to be added to Apple Wallet so you can scan your phone to gain entry?

Yes, it was. They are working with “select companies” as we speak. I contacted a guy working for Apple Wallet and he told me that, not open for now.

There are a remarkable number of people who are not familiar with how  Pay works posting to his thread which surprised me until I remembered where I was.

I am looking forward to seeing this widely implemented though I accept it will take awhile.

It’s called another Phone.

Probably won’t be a feature in Florida until 2199, because… Florida
Miami is becoming a crypto hub for the world. Florida’s toll pass system has compatibility with dozens of other states. No reason to be down on Florida’s embracing of technology.

And do what with it, precisely, that they couldn't do by reading the information off the screen while you hold it? I get the concern, but there's no plausible reason for them to have to take your phone back to their car. And until whatever new scanners they need get fully deployed, you'll need to carry your physical drivers license card as a backup anyway.
What if the scanners were, wait for it…an app on their phone!?
