Like he did for the Apple ][+

Oh.... that's right....

Yeah, back in the 70s. He changed from "Macintosh" to "Mac" and not once during his return to Apple did he use the "plus" moniker.

iPhone Plus, available at Big and Tall stores nationwide! It's not fat, it's "big-boned".

I wonder what will happen to the iPhone 5c. Will they update it with the iPhone 5s internals, or would it be discontinued all together?

My guess is they'll dump it. I don't think it's proved particularly popular. I get the feeling they will either use the iPhone 5 or 5S as the "budget" model. I originally thought they might bring out an iPhone 6 with 4" screen but as there have been no leaks about it, it's obviously not that.

Other possible names for the 5.5-inch iPhone included "iPhone Air," a term that surfaced from Chinese media sources and seemed to fit in with the rest of Apple's "Air" lineup, including the MacBook Air and the iPad Air."

HOW would that "seem to fit"??

The "Air" version of every other product is smaller, not larger than its namesake.

Air doesn't make sense as the name for the bigger phone. It makes sense as a name for the lightest phone, but the lightest phone might be the 5S, given the weight of additional screen and battery.

Plus might also have a negative connotation of heavier to some people.

Heavier wouldn't be negative! I'd pay double if I could get an iPhone 6 that weighs what my iPhone 4 does!

like iPad was supposed to be "iSlate", according to MR couple of years ago, despite the fact that "slate" sounds idiotic, they already had an "iPod" and "iPhone"

it doesn't sound like apple. But then again...

"iPhone 6 Plus" ?

Is Apple trying to see how may users they can confuse with as may names as possible.

I know intel has quite a lot, but its not a competition here.

Their marketing is enough to keep up by.

All the people clamoring for the "plus" were probably previously convinced that the iPhone size was perfect and Samsung's larger models were too big.

Not me, I'm still hoping there will be a 4" model.

This is going to throw off the clothing industry.

Hah, that's what all those fashion reporters are being invited to the event are for, to report on the need in fashion for clothes to have bigger pockets. It's not about the iWatch at all!

They should take a page from Ferraris book and call it "La iPhone"

Or if they really wanted to sell units, make it the Steve Jobs special edition. "iPhone SJ Edition." Make it a limited run, with a black turtleneck colorway for the back.

I like that, as a nod to Apple fans since the beginning, they're adding "c",
as in "iPhone 5c" [Apple //c] & "plus", as in "iPhone 6 plus" [Mac Plus] to the iStuff product line! :)

I'm not sure if this is a good idea.

I still prefer the 4.7" model to be called iPhone 6 and the 5.5" model to be called iPhone 6L or iPhone Air.

I'm interested to see if Apple moves to take back marketshare from the Android Phablets, or if they jack the new iPhone prices for short term profits at the expense of market share and iOS's future.

My prediction is that the stockholders win and the subsidized price for the 4.7" model is $100 higher than that of the 5S. As a result, iOS market share shrinkage accelerates.

Apple is not concerned with market share. They're concerned with profit which has very little to do with market share in the current mobile device sales environment.

Android devices sell at a loss or very low margin. iPhones sell for straight profit to consumers and carriers.

"Oh no, I don't like the name of the new iPhone, now I can't buy it! wah wah :("

Come on, it's just the name. Who care's if it's called the iPhone 6 Plus or the iPhone 6 Dumbo, as long as it's a working smartphone and meets our expectations, that's what matters, not what the name is.

Wow, only diff is the size it seems. Worth buying? As for now, not for me at all. I think i Will try samsung alpha

The name "iPhone Plus" reminded me of "Macintosh Plus". Is Apple going to go back to its old naming style?

I showed someone at work this Chinese review and the first thing out of her mouth was (she doesn't keep up with rumors and was in the dark) why did Apple make it look like a Galaxy phone.

I don't care what they call it, I just want it in my hand so I can obsess over it for a couple weeks and then get used to it and not care anymore so I can move onto rumors of the iPhone 6S.

They should take a page from Ferraris book and call it "La iPhone"

then it would be called iPhone La iPhone

That's just stupid to have different naming systems. What are they going to call the update next year, the iPhone 6 Plus S?

For heavens sake this just shows what a bunch of numpties the marketing team are without Steve at the helm.

Drop the freaking numbers and letters and just stick with names. At least people can relate to them. iPhone Colour, Nano, Mini, Air, Pro, Plus, etc.

Obviously the plus would always come at the end, just because you can come up with a stupid name for the successor doesn't mean Apple will use it. Also, if true, I'm sure they'll use "+" instead of "plus"

iPhone 6
iPhone 6+

iPhone 6c
iPhone 6c+
iPhone 6s
iPhone 6s+

It's not really that complicated, and it works fine as long as there are only two sizes. Although I guess if they could use a "-" (minus) if they keep the 4" size around

I'm more curious what they'll do with the 5s.... Will they keep it around, or will they put its internals in a larger plastic case with these new screen sizes? 5sc and 5sc+?

----------

I'm calling it. Iphone 6C 4.7 inch body, unapologetically plastic. Iphone 6s 5.5 body, metal based.

Next year iphone 7c, 7s

I'm not sure of a lot of things Apple will do in the future, but that's one thing I'm sure they won't do.
