Forstall? He is a software guy..

All the people clamoring for Forstall's return either didn't actually pay attention to Apple back then or are clouded by nostalgia. iOS 6 was incredibly stale, and that stagnation is exactly what the majority of people on these forums complained about in 2012. Not liking the direction that Apple went with iOS 7 and beyond is understandable, but iOS had to evolve and Forstall was clearly reluctant to let that happen.

The former employee can accomplish her goals, and the former employer retain the talent.
In theory. But in practice, I've never seen it work out terribly well. Keeping talent that doesn't share your goals isn't terribly beneficial, and keeping a former employer with different goals as a client solely to maintain a revenue flow eventually leads to conflict...

Naw he was pushing things forward. He was let go because of bad blood with Ives and other’s who’ve moved on as well. With them gone, we need someone else with strong opinions.

Quite the loss. But after 30 years, I can understand why he would try out something new. Would not read too much into it.

I can't wait for the posts in a year or 2 wishing he was still with Apple.
nothing lasts forever and it was only a matter of time. Hopefully Apple University or whatever it’s called made headway in the transitioning.

This is YUUUUUGE. But since Apple will be a client of his new company, I don't think much will really change.

Good point. Very short memories around here.

Instead of praising him for a long history of innovation that helped get Apple out of the doldrums, sticking with Apple when so many had left, and identified by Jobs as a very special talent, he is mocked.

He should be applauded rather than criticised for a few perceived or actual failings that we don't even know he was responsible for. Maybe the materials experts were responsible for the sub-par plastics of the butterfly key mechanisms?

But hey, 30 years' of efforts are nothing in comparison to a few slip-ups. He should take no credit for helping Apple become the world's best company.
