Even neowin.net posted this on their frontpage... that's how I came into knowing this!

This device is a testament of how great the unibody macbook trackpads have become - almost all PC users plug in their mice because their trackpads just sucks and now it seems Apple is bringing their glory in the form of a dedicated device. Fantastic!

Did anyone notice upon closer inspection the copyright on the small text of the underside of the trackpad reads (c) Apple 2009? Prototype much?

Apple should combine this with the wireless keyboard. Replace the area where the numberpad would normally go with this trackpad.

Also I think any naysayers should watch this video:

Potentially something to match with an upgraded AppleTV using the iPhone OS as rumoured?

It definitely makes sense for using with a TV or some such. If you are just relaxing on the sofa, then using a mouse is nigh on impossible as you either have to stick a mousemat on your leg or try running the mouse up and down your though. Neither are good. If anyone has used an iPhone to remotely control their Mac, then I can imagine this would be the same experience...which is a good one!

I'm confused...I basically have this already with a mouse app for my iPod Touch. What's the point?

Oh well, we'll see in a bit. Steve Jobs will sell me something I never thought I needed, it's inevitable. ;)

Awesome. Maybe we'll get a preview of 10.7 after all, with some of these ideas. As OS X is I can't see a magic trackpad being terribly useful.

This meshes well with the reports of an iPhone OS based :apple:TV. Consider this the remote for that.

Basically separate the iPad from it's input digitizer and display. If this has accelerometers in it, that's what it's for not desktop use.

Please let there be an iPhone OS device for the TV, please.

I can see having both.

I've gotten so used to the multitouch track on my MB that going back to use my PC the biggest frustration is the lack of multitouch, especially scrolling.

I could see having both on my desk, a multitouch pad and a mouse, most of the time I'd use the pad but for gaming and other things the mouse.

Unless it does something magic (lulz) I don't think I want. There is a reason many people buy external mice for their laptops...

...the same logic can be applied as to why a lot of people will LOVE this peripheral...!!!

Some may dislike the touchpad on laptops... but others will love using the touchpad and therefor will buy this.

This could be a hard sell if it is functionally similar to the trackpads on the MacBooks.

My bet is is will be functionally IDENTICAL to the trackpads on the MacBooks ...

Apple's 'Magic Trackpad' or 'Magic Slate' Revealed?

Engadget posts photos of what appears to be a large multi-touch trackpad accessory from Apple. Similar in styling to the Apple wireless keyboard, the peripheral appears to connect to computers via Bluetooth and is rumored to support a wide variety of multi-touch gestures and possibly even handwriting recognition.
New images received with a claim that the device supports handwriting recognition in addition to "every feature you can find on a Magic Mouse (and possibly features of a MacBook Pro trackpad)." This, from a person who claims to be personally testing it.

Rumors of such a gadget surfaced last October in a hint from John Gruber, and trademark applications for the terms "Magic Slate" and "Magic Trackpad" were linked to Apple in the following months, suggesting that Apple was taking the device rather seriously.

Engadget suggests that the device may make an appearance at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference today, although it is unclear whether that is based on specific claims or simply on the timing of the leak. One of the images showing the back of the device reveals a copyright date of 2009, suggesting that pictured image is not necessarily fresh off the manufacturing line.

If I can right-click on this thing while still left-clicking, I'll wait in line for IT instead of the iPhone.

Wow, this is getting interesting.

Ha, I love how 90% of the first posts are very short one liners. "Look at me, I am first!"

Regarding this mouse, this would be an instant purchase for me. After using one on my macbook pro all other laptop mice just plain suck. Especially having to use a windows laptop at work.

Put me down for 2....but send my iPad beforehand :p hope it is for real...I really need something like this...OK need need! maybe is not the right word :)
