Why would anyone have any desire to go MagSafe especially if it puts a giant circle on a $60 iPhone leather case and is slow to charge.

Asking for a friend.
Don't forget wireless charging degrades your battery like crazy...your battery health will be like 10% less a year than if using just the cable.

Why did anybody expected different spec? This is duo charger. Power is split between two coils.

How is this getting ridiculous?
The 20 W brick lets a regular individual magsafe charger charge your phone at 15 W.
add an Apple Watch puck taking some of that juice, and it’s not gonna get the full 15 W on the other side. This is just obvious stuff
You’re 100% right.

Wireless Magsafe is what we need. I'm hoping the end game here is that Apple is going to have the puck removable from the cord where it truly wirelessly charges your phone. That would be a game changer. If you could charge the puck where it would fully charge your phone two or three times before needing to be plugged back in that would be an actual innovation.

As it stands now, MagSafe is really one of the worst products that Apple has released in a long time. There is so much wrong with it. The cord is in the way if you are holding the phone with it attached, it charges really slowly, your phone gets really hot, it leaves a ring around your expensive Apple leather case, the cord is too short....

Its just not a very good product. But I can hear Tim Cook saying it now "People absolutely love MagSafe, and because of that we've removed the charging port altogether." Its only a matter of time.

Imagine buying a charger for $129 and having to buy an additional power adapter to use it...

I'm totally supportive of not including a brick with the phones, but I still can't believe they don't include one with their chargers.

I can apologize for many Apple products. I justified the purchase of the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro but this, to me, is a harder one. I'm not sure if it provides the functionality and innovation to justify its price. At least with the Magic Keyboard, you had the innovative design, the extra charging port, and the smooth trackpad integration. With this, I'm not sure what value you are getting compared to purchasing each product separately... Hoping it gets terrible reviews so that Apple is forced to reduce the pricing for me hahah

I'm surprised Apple hasn't decided to charge more than $129 for this. They could market it as an added safety feature. $179 seems about right.

This is the first product ever where I have wanted it initially and now just don’t even want to entertain it, usually with a product like this I slowly convince myself I really want it, this has been the complete opposite for me.

Overheating issues, causes damage to cases, price, short cords, no power bricks... at this rate your better just using your cable.

I just wish Apple released something along the lines of what Belkin are one day eventually going to release... a bedside charging stand for all your Apple products, now that would have been a great product and would have been an instant buy from me.

But now all the issues of over heating and marking cases etc... I am just starting to get put off MagSafe altogether and really am thinking twice about investing into it, as I will be very surprised if Apple don’t scrap the idea in a year or two.

For me, that will depend on whether or not it can charge the phone faster if the watch is not simultaneously charging... If it can charge at 11 W max with a 20 W power brick, that would be disappointing.

But in the end, it doesn't matter for me. I was excited about it - I've got a 12 Pro and a Series 6 watch - but the Duo costs 3x what I expected to pay for a premium apple charger. Thus no purchase. Not even including a power brick makes it even worse.
The duo was actually cheaper than I thought it would be. I was expecting $150-$179. The AirPower’s rumored price was $249.
Keep in mind that the Apple Watch charger, just for the Apple Watch, is already $79

I’m not sold on anything MagSafe. I bought the case and MagSafe charger with the 20watt adapter and it seems much slower than using the normal plug in method. Waste of cash in my opinion

Because it undermines the fact I want to charge my phone not letting it cook on a plate. Wireless charging needs to improve or leave the market. My father's Android charges so ridiculously fast out of the box. Apple is falling behind rapidly on this front.
From where I’m standing, wireless charging has improved.
Back in 2017, when the iPhone 8 first came out, the best you could expect from a wireless charger was 5 W. And that was also if you used the perfect power brick, and you had the phone perfectly aligned.
Then it got bumped to 7.5, where it remained until this year.
The fact that they doubled that, and even with this duo you can still get 14 W to me is great.
And by the way, the difference between 14 W and 15 W is so small, that the majority of people will never ever notice it. Even the difference between 11 W and 15 W is pretty small. And either way, the majority of customers are coming from 5W chargers, so it’s gonna be faster no matter what.

Don’t fancy lifting that up with my phone with my watch still attached (sarcasm)

here’s an idea why not have a cable to plug into the bottom of the phone? 🙄

wireless charging is useless and wastes power! All this struggle to remove the last port in the phone...honestly apple the lightning port don’t offend me, and phones don’t need to be thinner than that socket!
Consider this. If they remove the lightning port, your phones more secure, because FBI fingers can’t really crack a passcode without access to that lightning port, and your phones more waterproof.

It looks like it's made out of the same upper material as the Apple Watch magnetic charging dock. The only difference is that instead of soft felt bottom, the entire MagSafe duo body is wrapped in the same top material. It's bright white in person.

I question the decision to put a bright white material directly on the bottom.

Oh, and there is this:

I'm not really worried about that last point, the way they actually take it off looks easy and natural to me. easier than with the normal MagSafe puck in fact.

Totally agree about the white though, especially for a portable item that's going to go in bags, maybe even pockets.

Feck, I'm obviously still going to get one though. I told myself I wouldn't get a Magic Keyboard after the Smart Folio Keyboard, but I still did. If I can't resists that how can I resist this? :(

I really hope Apple is not planning on removing all ports on the iPhone and having wireless-only charging (as has been rumored). Wireless charging needs to see more improvements before that happens.
